Almost 28 and still love this movie. I remember watching this at my aunts house when I was about 7 maybe 8. The story and characters hold up very well for its time. Please, no remake of this🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
@timcountis9368 not errol, Basil for sure, followed by tyrone. Danny Kaye was also inherently naturally good as well as stewart, but not flynn. Flynn was good in other action scenes, he was the better boxer, swimmer, diver, horseman, tennis player, etc than the others but not as a swordsman
Just look at the close-ups of the classic beauty of Janet Leigh, one of the reigning beauties of the 40's, 50's and 60's silver screen. Hers was a face that poets went into raptures: the heart-shaped face, the high cheekbones, the perfect penciled nose; and a smile that could win a million hearts. Whether she wore her hair in blonde, auburn or black, her beauty was inescapable and undeniable.
@@israelparper6080 We discussed that among my (medieval) fencing pals back in the 90s and early 2000s and we all thought that Scaramouche still held that title at about 6 minutes (the "Princess Bride" fight is about 3 minutes of superb choreography) . Now, however it appears that we are both incorrect: The longest sword fight in the movies is now apparently Anakin vs Obi-wan in “Revenge of the Sith”, which sits at about 12 minutes.
So this is Scaramouch the Merciless, the Pied Piper of Ruination, the Crooner of Carnage, the Ambassador of Annihilation, the Eradicator of All, baby. Also known as Aku's most favorite assassin, babe

Yes, repeating "Scaramouche" over and over is funny. E.g., Frank Billings Kellogg, close associate of Aristide Briand, who won the Nobel Peace Prize. Yes, Frank B. Kellogg who very well may never have heard of -- Scaramouche.
Eleanor Parker despised him because of the way Granger treated his wife at the time, Jean Simmons when she came on set. Granger may have been a top movie star of the time but he was a thoroughly unlikeable person in real life. I met him at a book signing for his autobiography, 'Sparks Fly Upwards' in the early 1980s. I noticed that the way he treated his persol assistant was not pleasant.
A favorite movie of mine! I don't know if anyone else has mentioned it, but Eleanor Parker in this movie really reminds me of Jessica Rabbit. (Or, since she came first, I suppose that Jessica Rabbit reminds me of Eleanor Parker in this movie!)
@@israelparper6080 Oh no, this version can't be surpassed with to days actors. They lack the glamour, the classic skills, the charisma, and the sense for period acting. Let's just appreciate that we still have the chance to enjoy the sight and skills, of the real Hollywood actors from the golden age.
I absolutely *love* how the narrator pauses each time he says...Scaramouche!!!

Granger did all his fencing, no quick cuts, no doubles, no camera tricks, all him!
Let's not forget two of the greatest Hollywood swordsmen, Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone
Stewart Granger looks like a true hero.
Yes he does
Tall, dark, deep voice, broad shoulders, thick thighs, long limbs, silver temples!

One of the best swashbucklers ever made.
I still blink in disbelief every time watching Robert Granger putting out those candles with a goddamn epee.
Eric Mark I would blink in disbelief too if Robert Granger did it. Especially since it was Stewart Granger. Lol
Stewart Granger was such a lover boy in almost every movie.
I like his obnoxious character too. I just realized that Bruce Campbell in army of darkness is a nod to him
Still one of the greatest movie swordfights; I think may still be the longest (at least as a one-on-one).
It was until the fight in The Princess Bride.

My favorite swashbuckler though Richard Lester's 1970s Three Musketeers movies come close.
Yeah, those Lester Musketeer movies are so great.
