I grabbed an A2000 to upgrade from my P2000 for my Unraid Plex server as well. I was VERY pleased at the 4K transcoding performance… so much so that I did away with my dual 4K/1080p Movie and TV Show libraries and merged them. I have so far had 8 4K transcodes to a mix of 1080p and 720p and have only seen 30-35% load. Good luck and enjoy as our systems are very similar :)
That's precisely why I am trying to do on-the-fly transcoding as well is because I don't want to have to keep two copies of everything. The A2000 DEFINITELY helps with that, and it's certainly more than powerful/fast enough that I can transcode multiple streams at the same time and it barely breaks a sweat. On top of that, the fact that it's only a 70 W card also helps as well, so if my main Proxmox server is busy doing something else - it doesn't hinder the transcode performance.
Great video. I'm using Proxmox rather than Unraid, but the same general idea. The setup with Proxmox required a little bit more "manual" work (rather than clicking through a GUI) (copying and pasting commands and editing text/config files), but it still, also works like a charm. I'm running multiple LXC containers now, sharing the same A2000 6 GB where I can be running a GPU accelerated CFD application whilst it is also doing a transcode in the background as well. It's AWESOME!!!
hmm maybe its the camera lens and perspective but i wonder if you have arthritis flares or episodes of shortness of breath after exertion? probably nothing/just the cameras lens and perspective but some people show autoimmune conditions in their hands.
How would you say this card compares to a 3080 for plex? I currently have an amd setup running my server, I believe it's a ryzen 9 3900x, 16gb of 3200mhz ram, and a 3080. Seems to run well.
@@simdevils yea it seems to be able to push 4x 4k streams without issue. Been running like this for around 6 months without issue. I was using my synology to run plex, but it was far too weak so I just swapped everything to my desktop and am just using my diskstation as storage
@@_CryptoNoob_ nice, I am using a 3090 and I wanted to downgrade to like an A2000 or A4000 but the prices of those are close to my 3090 and I am like WTH, the 3090 beats both together LOL so I guess I am just sticking with that, it’s basically doing nothing 99% of the time.
@@simdevils yea those a series cards are just way too pricey because they can still be used to mine crypto efficiently. But I agree, the card basically sits idle most of its life so the power savings are negligible. It's funny tho, I recall back when I started my plex server, I was running an Alienware alpha r2 and it handled everything perfectly fine, until I started adding 4k 10bit blurays, then she would cough and wheeze constantly lol. I still have that little alpha too. It was amazing because it literally only used 60 watts of power... Ahh the good old days of 720p were such a simpler time ahahahha
If i don’t need more than 5 streams at once but i want to play large 45-90mbps 4k uhd when im out of network, would a 1660ti be fine? I have a nice am4 5600x on a meg ace x570 that im thinking of turning into a nas. Or do i sell that and just buy a nas?
I stuck one of my a2000s in my plex server and started getting transcode errors more often than moves would play. So im back to using the 16 core epyc for the transcode duties
is this a 6 GB RAM? Also i am building a HP proliant n54l and i upgraded it to 16 GB of ram and 4 8 TB HDD's. Do you think is a good idea just to start ? Please Help
Correct , the A2000 isn’t limited to transcodes like normal Consumer GPUs more professional or Commercial cards allow more and the A2000 is essentially the equivalent of the new Quadro line of cards . Essentially it does what he needs it to do more efficiently and at a fraction of the cost of using a much higher model card also this allows for better performance when you have multiple streams ! But this works just fine for the average Plex enthusiast unless you’re Netflix Or Disney lmao then that’s a different story
Too many users with budget clients to worry about. Not trying to make remuxs worse for my self just because friends and family won't but an Nvidia shield lol.

This is great info! I've only tried with 2 4k streams running at once so far.
How much watts does it consume while idling?

Finally your video helps me to resolve my issue about transcoding w/ my RTX3070. Kudos to you pal !
I was surprised when you opened the box wasn't expecting that 🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜
How would the A2000 compare to a old 1080Ti for transcoding?
Wooo! Where did you get it? Totally awesome!
Keep em coming!!!!
eBay
Still learning so please forgive the dumb question, how does the top slot go from a x16 to an x8?

So few people do an even coating on dies. It kills me. An even layer should be the only way to do it.

Your 3080 would shit on the A2000. The workstation GPUs are way too expensive. I have seen A2000 being sold for close to what a 3090 is sold LOL.

That GPU is so tiny in your hands 😂

There’s a 8gb and 12gb a2000? Which one are you running and will both work good with Plex?
How is The tone mapping performance? Just ordered the same card myself. 😃

Unfortunate to hear. Any new solutions?
@user-dr2pg8fk2i haven't tried. I'm not even close to hammering my epyc though, so it isn't high on my list if priorities
What is the program that you are using to manage the server and install drivers/apps/containers/etc?
Nice Gamers Nexus mat
Hynix memory are a lil different

I’m confused. I’m not a Plex expert. But why would you use an A2000 instead of an RTX?
they basically have the same NVNEC encoder built in, so it's not necessary to have a higher powered card that will waste power.

Damn my hair ! lol
Lol I have the same exact vornado fan on my desk
That fan is a godsend for bigger people like me!
is it any better than the p2000.
Never had a p2000 but it has to be better, faster and newer version of nvnec built into the gpu die.
If your plex server transcodes, then you are encoding your media WRONG!!!
