Happy New Year! I am looking forward to another decluttering year. I am in my 70's and am beginning the downsizing process. Listening to you helps me with this. Thank You Gayle and Ed.
No spend months several times each year helps me refocus and stop the incoming that is not a necessity. Happy New Year- thank you for years of encouragement
What I have found is that the more times I have to sweep through an area to declutter it the easier it is to just let it go. I realize that it is just stuff I do not need that is actually costing me precious time and when things finally go out it is with a sense of freedom and relief.
Happy new year Gayle and Ed and all fellow clutterers! Dana’s suggestion of taking each thing from out of the clutter back to where it belongs right away works well in a busy or chaotic household where emptying everything at once gets interrupted. I was left in despair by the Konmari method of pulling every item of clothing out…family life got in the way, I had to stop the decluttering and sorting because of interruptions and I so I had a bigger problem to sort out, clothes strewn everywhere , and no chunks of time to sort it!
WABI SABI...several good books on the Japanese concept of the beauty of imperfection. Wabi Sabi is offen written about regarding home design, decor and a life philosophy. But in organizing, decluttering. ....it reminds us that things do not have to be perfectly organized, . Looking at magazine photos of a perfectly organized room....is just a fantasy that does not exist in real life.
Rolling carts. Gayle, I find it difficult to walk around the house too. (an injured foot for a year). A sturdy rolling cart, acts as a "walker", where I can support myself with the handle,. And also the rolling carts has 3 shelves, that can hold things I need to relocate to another room. The cart shelves also holds medical supplies, equipment, meds I need to access constantly and easily. p.s. my cart is a strong polypropylene, so easy to clean and will not rust.
My word for 2025 is healthy. I believe living in a decluttered and streamlined environment will be supporting this goal and I'm exited to go over all the rooms! Maybe this is the year I can finally declutter the second bedroom (the craftroom and office space) and enjoy spending time in there. Loving the idea of book reviews and a great one to start!
I think it is important to not continually blame other people nor situations for our current struggles = if we find ourselves continuously doing this = 'using excuses' for our predicament, I think we won't successfully address our current issues. We need 'stop-it' & just deal w/ the stuff.😊
Happy New Year to each of you! 🥰🎉

With ADD it helps me to " take it there now", as Dana says. I use your discussion s to renew my mind on removing clutter.
