    Simple summary:
    If you don't have college degree, just find a niche skill or something you are good and expert in and sell your work to businesses or clients out there. It doesn't have to be your work, you can outsource.
    Even shorter:
    Provide Value for Money, As long as you deliver whether its your effort or others

      Well most people attach a lav mic to it (or plug in an interview mic), he's just using the xy attachment and holding the thing. Looks like a zoom H3 or something
      edit: actually looking at it again, looks like his model has a built in mic, doesn't need the xy attachment mic

    Choosing freelancing as a career path is one of the best things that ever happened to me. I don't like to charge by hour though.. I prefer to give fixed price then charge by milestone. One tip from my humble experience: never work for stingy clients.. no matter how beginner you are, they will make you do a lot of work for them for very very little money. It's not worth it! .. if you need experience, do free work or projects of your own.

    I'm so sick of working for companies as a full time software engineer. I have been doing it for 35 years. I started as a freelancer when I was 15, got a bachelors in electrical engineering and started working as a hardware designer, then back to software, then got a masters degree in EE and now I'm 50 ...
    I HATE it now because I have been capped out on how much I can make for about the last 7 years and engineering has become totally slave driving in the best jobs. I like working weekends to push through here and there but the concept of the never-ending crunch phase has been going on for like the last couple years in the industry. (Thanks Silicon Valley! lo)
    Ridiculous over-promising to customers by corporations who know that software engineers will work day and night to finish the job. I'm seriously thinking of going back to freelancing because I think there is more growth potential. You made great points and serious food for thought!
    The real problem I'm having right now is that I'm working on self-driving cars for a major corp and I end up working 7 days a week 10 to 16 hours a day and all I make is my 40 hours salary (and usually a nice bonus)...which is all well and good but... I WORK NON-STOP ALL THE TIME! If I freelanced I would get paid for that time and all the other advantages to freelancing like focusing on the customers you want, but how to I build clientele when I have no time to devote to freelancing to make a reputation!? I would have to quit and go way out on a limb. That's the uncertainty. I'm way too risk-adverse.

    9:32 $5,000 for a 2-hour website? Uh. No. Everyone knows they can put together their own site easily with something like Wix or Squarespace. And they'll get the same results that a pro would deliver with 2 hours of work. That 2-hours you put in building a website will earn you a couple hundred bucks, _maybe_ $500 tops. $500 *tops*.

      if you are dedicated to it using frameworks (django, RoR, etc) and you did already a lot of works, you can have all the models already done and just you have to assemble what you need
      isn't impossible if you have the experience

    • @orangemancometh
      @orangemancometh 7 лет назад

      Thank you. It seems you're addressing the time involved. Yet what you wrote does not address the amount of money you can charge whatsoever. Your comment is moot.

    • @heatxtm
      @heatxtm 7 лет назад +4

      You charge for what you deliver and know, not only for the product. 5k was an example.
      If somebody charges 2k for a simple web app in django, you don't have to charge less because you work faster and with the same quality. Experience gives you the speed.
      The problem here is that he just gave an example, but there are freelancers that charge like $500 the hour.

      +Steve Koerner I'm gonna be honest man. If you're looking for something fast or out of desperation you're looking in the wrong place. I empathize with you but this is a career for life and it takes time to develop the right skills and get a job in this field.
      Also if you're looking into this primarily for money, it's not necessarily the best job for you then.
      Just few things to keep in mind .
      If you do need money do some side gigs. Post on craigslist. Network locally. Manage social media, develop websites, or teach something on a site like WyzAnt or TakeLessons.

    Very well done ✅I just subscribed and liked . So why Python 🐍 lol is that the best language to build websites and is it like JavaScript? Don't I need to know html with CSS or is Python enough? How would I use multiple languages at once to work together? And do you only program in Python for clients?

      python is easy to learn but less efficient and less paid.
      you have to be expert at Python to make good money.
      And be genius at mathematics in my opinion.

      Many people use Python for machine learning. I am just getting into Python for this reason and I wonder why people try to make this program look like it's meant to do other things. Perhaps it is meant to do other things but if they like a different tool better (hence why they criticize) then why not just use that tool? IMO, if you want to do something specific, like deep learning in my case, then learn the tools you want for this career path. Who cares if it is _______(insert blank here)? Just do what you want to do.

      phython is completely different from JavaScript .phython is used in backend(maintaining db and much more).while JavaScript is used for providing functionality to the webpage.

    3:10 yes you care because you run a business not a charity, if someone told you they could do the same job for $50/hr and you could reduce your expendature by 50% that guys getting the job and hes probably going to get the next one because that company is going to love him for saving them unecessary expenses.. a business is going to look at what the market is offering and you offer you accordingly.

    If you want to charge an astronomical price for an app/webapp just because it "could" bring a flood of customers, I guess you'd better deliver the app at a normal price and then charge for marketing the app through an affiliate tracker
