Do you know what any good franchise would have done with a medicore team last year with that draft capital from the off-season. Bears gave away Top 5 rushing attack for Swift, never understood why they benched him. #1 draft pick spent on a QB who don't want to be there and said it. The team wanted Fields because at the end of the year last year Bears was actually coming together. Think if you kept Fields trade down multiple times for draft to fill OL, DL, and Wrs, plus this upcoming draft capital they they could've had. Bears could have been playing Madden Franchise with the NFL, but horrible management is terrible.
I really hate to admit it, but I'm starting to see it your way. I was not a fan of Fields and actively rooted for the team to lose so he'd be shown the door. But in hindsight, and even though Williams is objectively a better passer than Fields, it looks like it was a mistake to move on from Fields. And that's tough for me to admit. The team seemed to play hard for him and he had that certain special something that winners have. I mean, he goes to Pittsburgh and even with pedestrian numbers, he willed the team to 4 wins in his 6 starts before being (rightfully) benched. I'm wondering now if they should have just traded down to get a ransom of picks and used them to build around Fields. But it's too soon to.give up the ghost with Williams after only 13 games. Let's see what he does these last few games. And he deserves another full season to prove himself, hopefully with the needed upgrades in supporting cast. But I'm definitely having buyer's remorse, at least so far.
