- In this final video of this series, we'll take a deep dive and take a closer look at the diode. There will be real circuits to coincide with a white board discussion. And we'll take a look at some waveforms to discuss them. Thanks to all for watching the videos in this series and enjoy the video!
Excellent job in your video teaching how the diode works, rectification and charging system. I am an educator in automotive electronics at an upper secondary school in Northern Sweden and I have been, more or less, into electronic engineering for 35 years. Once again; excellent job and as a matter of fact ... I will be sending a link to my students to your video. Thank you Mr Stuzman!
Thank you very much for the kind reply! I've been in electronics engineering for about 50 years now and there is always something new to learn each day. Be sure to tell your students hi for me and if any of them have any questions or comments, I'll be sure to answer them. Thanks again 4X1000!
I enjoyed this series Professor Stuzman. The way you presented the information was very clear and made it easy to understand. Always wondered how that little battery maintainer I own knew when to turn on and off. Thanks for taking the time to make the video Terry! Stay healthy and safe.
Thanks a lot Glen and hopefully, you got something out of them. Electronics is pretty easy and a lot in the understanding is how it's explained. You and your family stay safe and healthy too! 😊
Thank you for the detailed explanation. It all makes sense. I have a Craftsman lawn tractor with diode rectification for charging the battery. So I tried to measure the charging voltage going to my battery with the mower running and positive connection to the battery disconnected. When measuring AC across positive and ground, I get 26v. When measuring DC across the same terminals, I get 5.2v. Since it is half wave rectified, it is neither AC nor DC, so I don't really trust either measurement. How can I be confident that the charging voltage is correct? Thanks.
Hi Enigma758 and you don't want to disconnect any wiring for the charging system. Take a voltage across the battery without the engine running. Start the engine and at high throttle, take another reading across the battery. It should be a few volts higher. If you see that, then you know the charging system is working. Or if you have an amp clamp, you can clamp it around one of the battery cables to see if its charging. Have a great day!
@@stuzman52 Thank you!
33 like nice sharing my dear friend
Thank you Gurleen for taking the time to comment!
Very, very well explained. You have the gift to transform tons of formulas in simple things... You are teacher in real life? Thank You once again for this very well presented videos.
Thank you very much Daniel! I haven't been a teacher in real life, but in my previous occupation as an industrial electrical engineer, I trained quite a few electricians and other engineers over the years.
To use LED light bar on lawn tractor with dual stator would a diode need to be added to convert that headlight line A/C to D/C ? Really liked your series explanation. Thank you.
Yes, you are correct that a diode is needed to convert the ac to dc for the LED light bar. But, you'll want to be sure that you don't exceed the current capacity of the stator. There are components called LED drivers with constant current capability that get do what you want. Have a great day!
My goodness Terry, for a country boy your pretty smart. Seriously, this is very in depth stuff.
Thank you Wyatt! Smart, not really. Just picked up a few things over the years. Have a great weekend!
Ya'll can't let that there accent fool ya Wyatt. 😀
@@ozzstars_cars Just noticed your comment Glen! RUclips isn't worth a hoot in letting people know when you comment! Me, having an accent, come on man!
Wonder series, thanks you for sharing this information. Quick question, instead of switching the power source could you switch (reversed) the diode to change the its bias?
Yes, absolutely Jim! Reversing the diode is the same as reversing the DC power source. If I was to reverse the diode, the result would be the same where the diode is reverse biased and the light would be off. If I were to reverse the diode with an AC source, the light would still work, but the diode would conduct on the negative cycles instead of the positive cycles. Have a great day!
Congrats on the video, you would have made a great teacher!
Thank you very much Bernarda! I appreciate it!
Good title. Good details.
Thank you very much Spyder!
