00:40 🖋 The Platinum Preppy is a reliable, waterproof pen suitable for various uses like watercoloring or outlining with markers. Ensuring a good flow sometimes requires a shake due to ball bearings blocking the ink flow in the cartridge. 02:39 📝 The Platinum Preppy (03 thickness) with carbon ink cartridges offers smooth writing ideal for notes, work, or school, all at an affordable price (likely under $6). 03:48 🖊 The Platinum Prefounte, in emerald green, offers a broader (0.5) line with smooth writing. It requires slight adjustments like pushing the ball bearing to ensure smooth ink flow. 05:00 🖌 Prefounte's blue ink (05 thickness) provides a broader line, enhancing handwriting for a cleaner look. The affordable pen surprises with its smooth writing despite the low cost. 06:17 ✒ The Platinum Prefounte differs in style, featuring a faceted look and a metal clip, likely slightly more expensive than the Preppy but still a great on-the-go pen with reliability and versatility. 07:39 💡 Despite initial issues with a cracked pen, the clear Platinum Preppy functioned well. Anticipates similar performance and durability from the Prefounte range, which offers enjoyable color options for fountain pen enthusiasts.
Thank you so much Gail! Does the Prefounte (0.5 nib) produce a thinner line if you use the "other side" (reverse) of the nib to write? And is that just as smooth as using the nib normally? I reverse-write with some of my pens and it lets me introduce line thickness variation to my writing. Thanks again!
Hi! Thanks for your questions and comments. I find that the Prefounte reverse writes fairly well but there is a slight scratchiness to it. It seems a little more dry and is not as smooth, but it really isn’t terrible. Definitely doable but not as pleasant as regular writing.
I have many of the Platinum beginner pens. The Platinum Shooting Star is my favorite of them followed next by the Prefounte. The platinum preppy, prefounte, shooting star, and plasir all use the same nib. Which I found to be kinda cool.
That’s good to know, because then you know exactly what your getting and a consistent quality. Thanks! Shooting star sounds fun. My son has been using the preppy as well.
I have bought an Prefounte (0.5) but I think its very thick for my taste. Though I loved its cap color. I am thinking of buying a thinner nib preppy. Do you think I would be able to swap the barrel and cap of my Prefounte with Preppy?
I have two Platinum Prefountes ( green and red ) although I usually only pull them out at Christmas time .
They were great starter pens .
Oooo, those transparent colors would be really nice at Christmas time. 💚❤️

Yes! I just tested them and the caps, nib sections and barrels are interchangeable. 👍🏻😄
