- (8-17-2014) I have the honor of participating in another documentary. This one will air later this year in London England. The fine folks at Reel Nice flew me out to San Francisco to participate. A HUGE thanks to Reel Nice, The Hilton Hotel Union Square, and The Cornell Hotel De France.

Looks like you guys had a lot of fun. They seem like very nice people.
It was SO much fun :)
the people of "Reel Nice" seem real nice!
very entertaining as well.
Lawl
Good name for a fishing tackle shop.
Thus the name.
Did you find out the brand of the bird cage?
The birdcage is an Otis. I have some machine room footage coming in the future. Bottom drive drum elevator
Wow these dudes at Reel Nice are awesome! I bet the documentary will be a big hit :D
I think when People get the True "dieselducy Experience" They don't look at a elevator the same way again
I have been up there before in 1997 😊😁. I have been on it before. It still had the lexan buttons 😊
In the San Francisco YMCA (387 Golden Gate Ave) at least at one time the Service Elevator was an old one with a Crank Switch.
I used to spend nights there when I was stuck in SF without a car and the front passenger elevator was broken.
Maybe I will check that out sometime. I hope it is still there.

When were you last there?
I love your video work. I love this hotel. I love San Francisco. Tri-fecta video here!!
that last elevator Amazing great fined
Nice elevator Andrew
Nice seeing the elevator community truly get its due. Is this going to be feature-length, or a short featurette such as the last documentary?
When I rode that service elevator, I went down to 1B And Got off and explored. That is the boiler room and housekeeping too. It is loud down their! I did find the unmodded elevators next to a modded one. I rode the modded one. They also had this elevator with a front door and rear door. It was a mod beauty! It opened on 17 and 18 Rear. If you exit on that side, you can actually see the one andrew filmed. the ones next to the one with the rear door are modded but have no rear door. The one with the rear is Sixth. Avenue. Two elevators in that hotel have a steelers painted on the outside of them. That day was awesome!

Which building are you talking about? Hilton Union Square in San Francisco? Or are you talking about a building on the east coast?
Another place to check out is the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose. There is one with a Crank Switch in a building with an upstairs Ballroom in Downtown Oakland, I think on 14th Street (might have been the Midtown 420-14th St from Google, but I recall a Parking lot being next to it and this image doesn't show that).
They are strict about photography not allowed at the Mystery House sadly.
Is it just me, or do the stations on the 46th floor look like Dover Impulse fixtures with Series 1 buttons?
Can any body tell me the name of the song at the begining of the video?
How can we watch the documentry will it be uploaded on your channel cause insure aint flying to the uk to watch a hour long video
It will be available online as well
very cool elevators!, i even like the fixtures on the vintage gated elevator:), great job working on this video and keep up the great work!!:), who is reel nice BTW?
The production team of the upcoming documentary
Cool!
AWESOME!
Looks like you had loads of fun. I would love to do a documentary film with you one day. I know how to film and edit.
You said that the CPI originally had Nixies. Sure? How about the "DR", "XX" and other floors not just numbered then? Any pictures available how that would have looked like? Thanks!
I seen one years ago as a kid. back in the 80s
... actually "BR" for Ballroom... not "DR"
Sure, that was a typo, thanks! Still not fully convinced about Otis using Nixies. Otis had these projection-indicators that would show any symbol you want. A Nixie with a combination of letters and numbers needs to be custom-made which is greater effort. Also, Otis were the first having dot-matrix in the early 70ies. I would love to see evidence, been surprised before...
U spell real wrong
Rajesh Jani no he didn't that's how the company is spelled
why does it have two express zones?
It's because not all the cars serv all the floors and some but if he was in a servos elevator than it would not have and express zones
wndrtch Also, there's a skybridge on the 16th floor between this tower and the original tower (Tower 3... I know, weird, huh?) and the pool area. It just makes sense to have all cars access 16.
Another one th check on is Sather Tower (c1917) @ UC Berkeley.
Is it original, and gated? UC Berkeley is a place I would love to explore someday.
+upanddownadventures Sather Tower has bee n replaced, it was still original in the late 1970s
Craig Browning
Was it originally manually-controlled? When was it replaced?
+upanddownadventures The original had a Scissor Gate on the inside and manually operated glass door outside (the first time I ever rode in such an elevator). It had one of those "Gold Leaf" Otis Panels. This was back in 1976 or so, the next time I saw Sather Tower was about 2014, by then the elevator was replaced, so sometime between 1976 and 2014 it was replaced.
cool
