If you have the cash, the Honda. I went for the CFMoto cause was way cheaper than a second hand honda with 20,000km+ plus get a 2 year warranty.

Weird, I looked at the prices the other day and a new one was only 12,000. That's only $2,000 more. Surely a second hand one is only 8k-10k...

Martin if you can get a 22 model + CB500x has the upgraded front end 19" front wheel upside down forks twin disk, huge improvement. I ride on a lot of gravel and tarmac this is a great bike. Great video Campbell. Greetings from over the ditch, Australia.

I thought they all had the 19" rim. Thanks for the tip-off. I think for my riding I'd go CFMOTO. As a road bike + Gravel, that CB500X would be a killer though. Ever take yours on the kind of tracks I do? Check out some of my ride vids ;P

@@actstuntcam Not really built for serious off-road stuff, The CFMOTO would be the better choice, but for dirt roads, light off road stuff and bitumen the CB500x excels and will go forever. Its a Honda. I'll show you my videos if you show me yours. lol

Yes try a CB500X (Now known as an NX500...) I'd be very interested in what you' think of them.
I have a Suzuki V-strom 250SX, I kind of wish I had splurged out for a CB500X, having an extra 20hp on the open road, and 40kg more down low has to be an advantage!
I can let you have a blat on my 250SX for a comparison... It would be interesting to see if my impression of the advantages of another 20hp and 40kg down low are true to life.
for a fair comparison, a tyre upgrade may be necessary, I got rid of the Dangerously slippery and wanderrie MRF's over 3000Km ago, and I'm really glad I did, the current Pirelli MT60's make it worlds better (and Safer)

I don't want to argue, but I think the NX is a different model and is available alongside the CB. As far as riding the CB (No NX in New Zealand yet), I've contacted Honda and I'm waiting to hear back. I'm hoping to test it on road and gravel. I'd love to ride your V-Strom. Contact me via my email address (Available on my channel page). BEST REGARDS, Cam from NZ :)

Africa Twin owner and in the latter part of my 60's. Also a HP snob. Thinking seriously about downsizing because I think my off road days are pretty much behind me. When I do drop it, the lift is becoming really tough so it is probably time to swallow my pride and sell up. Thinking about the new Royal Enfield Bear or, the much more road focused and more powerful, Triumph Trident 660 full power. Picking the Enfield will mean I can still ride hardpack and picking the Triumph I'll be road only. Hope you keep riding the trails for a good while yet.

Thanks for the message and your best wishes. If I can talk myself into some exercise, I think I can hang on a smidge longer. I really love the CFMOTO450. Other bikes on my radar are the CFMOTO 800X (Depending on specs), or maybe the new KTM390 (Again, depending on specs). Probably hang on to my Africa Twin, a while longer. It needs a good tidy up before I sell it too. Hoping to get to the launch... In my dreams :)

Have you ever tested or ridden a kawasaki versys 300? Or maybe the suzuki vstrom 250. I want adventure capable but still light. Currently running a Grom set up for adventure riding and a tad bigger would be nice, just felt the CF moto and Himalayan felt heavy.

I have not ridden either. But looking at the specs you are 100% correct; They are significantly lighter than the CFMOTO and Himalayan. I seriously considered buying a Versys 400 when they came out. It looks like an excellent bike. When I was on the BMW ride around Rotorua a couple of years ago, a 300X came screaming up behind me and past on a gravel rd. Pretty impressive. The engine is low, the seat height is pretty friendly, and they should be around second-hand. Kawasaki have a new 500 coming out I think. Be interesting to see what that is like. Although I can't imagine it will be as cost effective as the 300X, or anywhere near as light. No one makes light bikes anymore, so maybe one of these older bikes could be superior. BEST REGARDS, CAM FROM NZ :)
