Certainly, despite to potential of the fourth, this first ballad undoubtedly attracts for its charm, its freshness, its youthful essence. Equally the splendid sonata op. 58. Magnificent Olga Scheps, very rewarding for a critic like me. Why? Because he is among the few performers who never forgets the most important thing about music. Which? It's silence , the pause...between the notes...

Dazzling and flawless technique matched with a profound understanding of Chopin's music - this is a great combination resulting in wonderful performances from this world-class pianist. I would have preferred this video to have had complete performances of pieces rather then edited highlights, but even so it is a delight.

I don't think anyone plays Chopin any better than my girl friend Olga Scheps. I'm talking about the whole body of work of this great composer. Her hands and fingers just dance over the keyboard and she is so expressive - whether the piece calls for soft, sublime, ethereal or what have you sounds or a little more robust playing, Olga is right there.

Seeing this music performed has taught us how important it is to see the actual performance, not just to listen to it. I don't think I'll ever buy a CD again if I could buy a DVD of a performance. This applies even when recordings are made in studios with people wearing headphones and casual clothes. Seeing a performance is really very, very different to listening to even the best recordings. This version seems to be very spotty in its overall production and yet I still watched every moment I could.
