One thing I'll add here because this video was hastily made - I have no data to back this up, but my hunch is that we subconsciously evaluate quality and effort of a work by both 1) seeing if custom map palettes exist and 2) if they are any good. It's def the best way to quickly make your project stand out and give it its own visual identity and flair. Thanks again for the support everyone.
I know this is a pretty old video but thank you so much for making this! This helped me a ton to give my hack a more distinct feel and encouraged me to mess around with map palettes in general!
No Otto thumb today, but great video nonetheless! I never thought about it and it makes a heck of a difference! Thanks man! I’m playing Road to Ruin right now but I didn’t get that map palettes was making so visual appealing!

Pandan: "Oh you're a rom hack all right. Just not a super one"
Road to ruin v. 1.0.0: "Oh yeah? What's the difference?"
Pandan: "Presentation!"
Map palettes are a delicate balancing act but a worthwhile one. They really define the geography of your hack.

Look at something like Pixar. Their movies change color as the emotions of the story progress. Color is extremely important

I want to do a grimdark muddy FE, the whole palate being more muted and earthy. No neon unites etc
