My 2006 "facelift" EDM Xt has the STI intercooler from a 'hawkeye' Impreza installed, it also has the taller hood scoop from same. The stock bypass valve is there but it's had a 'snorkus' delete and cold air filter tucked down in front of the driver's side (RHD) front wheel, Prodrive back box/tailpipe. Sounds great but not sure if the mods had been followed up by a remap. Also, the downpipe is de-catted.
Dude you should insulate your AC hard lines with some heater hose or something where the intercooler touches them. Otherwise it’s going to wear a hole in the lines pretty quickly. Also surprised you could use your forester recirc valve, I had to get the STI on and the hose that goes with it for my 05 XT.
Ok cool. I’d hate to see that overlooked and kill those AC hardlines. Nice build so far, we’ve done a lot of the same upgrades. About to do a downpipe and midpipe on my 05.
I thought the recirc valves were different so would need an sti one to fit? I have a forester cross sport and im looking to fit sti intercooler shortly.
You should be able to use the stock bpv without any problems as they are supposed to be interchangeable but it's not a 100% guarantee. The silicone fitting from the turbo to the intercooler will need to be swapped for a longer one and the passenger side bracket may need to be modified.
DIY EVERYTHING ok so you didn’t change the scoop/splitter to fit the sti IC. I know the oem one works, but isn’t big enough for the sti IC. Been looking into the V7 sti scoop/splitter, as it seems to be a bolt in affair and fits the bigger IC.
@@KerKoy The stock hood scoop is only an inch shorter than the STI and the hood opening is the same size. the forester has a larger rubber seal that helps guide the air into the tmic and covers the entire core of the sti intercooler but not the end tanks. So, you don't need to swap out anything on the hood to make it work with the sti intercooler. Also, most Foresters right side mounting bracket have an extra set of mounting holes to accommodate the larger tmic so no modification to the bracket is needed.
Did you have to bend the AC lines to install the intercooler? I just picked up an STI intercooler to install on my 05 XT and was wondering how to bend the AC lines.
It is an 06 auto, I have had knee surgery from the abuse I took driving semi's for a excavating company. So now, clutches and I don't get along very well.
Any idea as far as on up graded radiator? Like mishimoto radiator? But the issue is they make it for manual fxt not automatic any idea for something better than the stock radiator?
No, a larger intercooler doesn't change air flow. It only slows heat soak, keeping your charge air colder for a longer time. A larger turbo, cold air intake or switching from a bypass valve to a blow off valve would require a tune/remap since they affect charge air pressure.
Intercoolers are great but they are off for almost every mod you may want to do.
Why didn't you use the STI BPV? Isn't the FXT BPV a little smaller? Thanks for the video. I was worried about the AC lines and the fit.
They are the same bpv on both the xt and sti.

Sounds like it's fun to drive.

I did protect the lines but didn't record it.

have you done any modification on the hose between the intercooler and the throttle body ?
It's a Mishimoto silicone coupler, I don't think it's really better, but I needed to replace it, and this was less expensive than OEM.

I installed an sti tmic and used my original bpv with no issues.
Wish I’d have watched your video first! I’d heard the same thing about STI and other upgraded intercoolers needing STI BPVs
So I've got an 05 xt forester if I got an sti tmic I can use the stock bpv? No issues

@@DIYEVERYTHING okay well hopefully everything goes smooth
@@DIYEVERYTHING do you have a link to the longer hoses needed? I'm having a hard time finding them online. Thank you in advance!
Did you have to change or modify the hood scoop(the black plastic piece) after swapping the IC?
No modification was required.

I did have to bend them but not much. Then, I added a section of 3/4 inch hose over the line for some extra protection.
@@DIYEVERYTHING Perfect, thanks!
Supposedly with a vta u get back into boost faster between shifts n what not..... Idk as I've just ran the stock bpv on my 04 5mt xt
VTA turbos are expensive and not OEM to a Subaru. I would really love to get a JDM twin scroll, that would be the most economical option.
Would a wrx cooler fit straight on
The stock intercooler on the forester is the same one from the wrx.
Did you tune the car after install?
I am tuned with an OTS stage 2 from Cobb and will be doing a pro tune when this COVID-19 clears up. stay safe.
Check out the video I published on May 3, 2020
Was it a STI GDB SIC-TM0030 intercooler?
@@ssergejev It's from an 04 STI.
Nice videos, is your xt automatic or manual? Will this fit a 2004 Forester xt?

The stock radiator is holding its own. My average temp is 187 to 192 so I'm fine with it for now.
Will an '06 STI TMIC fit an '04 FXT? Thanks...
Now you’ve fitted a bigger intercooler, should it be remapped ? I’m asking as I have the same car and am putting a bigger intercooler on.

Where I can buy a new STI intercooler?
I couldn't tell you that. Try searching Ebay or maybe at the dealership.
