At first I thought this was some kind of interactive movie, like those weird dating sims, but then I looked at the environment, and the tessellation on the floor gave it away for me.
That’s quite interesting. I can’t explain how I can tell it’s just a game. But, it’s seems too real to be real, if that makes sense. Almost like God overdid everything.
At the start I thought It looked too real, but when it gets to the dark area where he's going up the stairs, the rubble completely gives away that it's not real. From there, a couple little key details give it away on closer look, but for the most part, these graphics are insane. Things like the windows on the van being too perfect, a couple metal bits are a little off, the puddles are a little off etc... give the fact it's a game away. Those kind of things can be really hard to capture at times.
Sup DDG, I just wanted to let you know, gave you the "name drop" at SDI. When I saw your sponsor advertisement, I knew I just had to use yours over all the others promoting it. Depends on the loading areas as well. Levels and maps just like elements assets are all file sizes, as long as its not open world then PCs should be able to load medium sized areas without the need for tremendous power.
I know everyone is talking about this but for some odd reason it gives me some serious hardcore Henry vibes in the best way. I first saw the footage from the demo on FB and at first glance... I was in disbelief that this was a video game until I remembered Unreal engine 5 was a thing. I have high hopes for unrecorded and I hope it does well with further development.
@Klopek2137 I'm not sure about that, if you watched the devs videos, he basically explains the POV is just a fisheye effect. Once removed it makes the game look like a normal FPS. That and being developed on unreal I can't see it taking years the way he was talking.
It says on the steam store "unrecord is a single-player FPS that tells the story of a tactical police officer from the perspective of his body camera. As you work to solve a complex case, you'll need to use your tactical detective skills to succeed" Also the the gun animations are hand animated and the dev did say this is not a VR game. I cant quite remember but the dev did say he'll have settings for ppl that get motion sickness. Also 3:27 I'm going assume that on release it's not going to have this type of aiming or it's going to have the same ISH aiming as receiver 1 or 2.
I mean, even with the original low-res clip several months ago you could tell it was a game by the animations. There's a certain aspect of the camera movement that still makes it seem like the player moves at a constant rate. There's also how consistent the groundcover rubble is. There were also several identical objects, wall textures, and graffiti used multiple times throughout the clips.
Of course you can tell it's a game when your brain knows what to look for but it's still an impressive gimmick and will only get better as they polish it. It seems like the simpler the scene is the more realistic it looks because there are fewer things to mess up and give it away.
its amazing how clueless everyone is when it comes to ue5 and virtual reality.. its like not a single one of these youtubers and streamers ventures out beyond their sponsored games.. these "scanned" environments have been a thing for 10 years now.. with ue5, we're finally seeing framerate stability. yes, your favorite developers have been under-developing games for easy $$ and youve been fanboying them hard like npc's.
also, of course i didnt think this was real lmfao gun mechanics are off, reflections are off, animations are unrealistic.. and as someone who actually pays attention to graphic engines, ive known about real scanned environments since the oculus came out.. its obvious youtubers/streamers arent gamers. just paid sponsors.
Is realism bringing us away from good games? For me MW2 and BO2 even SKYRIM for the first time was such a dopamine level for me. Is it my age and previous dopamine level trying to match expectations? I struggle to find myself diving into deep gaming again because I feel we’ve lost traction/hope. Please Like this comment if you miss opening up a new ‘Game Case’ and watching your ‘new game’ boot up for the first time in 2 minutes!
I dont think that the tech is ready yet, if i had to guess this was probably a handcrafted setting either rendering photos and scans of objects that they then posted into a game world. There didn't seem to me to be any interaction with particles or physics objects when the guy fell or shots were missed either by the camera man or the gunmen. I agree however that it was fairly hard to tell if it was just doctored footage of a body cam or a game until i saw the guy at the very end trigger his trip animation he kinda snaps into it part way through the fall.
This did trick me alittle I thought it look like a filmed game like hardcore Henry style. Anyway I'm waiting for stalker 2 if I can only get my hands on the ultimate edition....
I'm blown away by this being all in-engine. My gut reaction is/was that this is a photoscanned environment that has been brought over to UE5 and filled with even more details, physics objects, and debris. The relatively flat, ambient lighting in parts is what gives me that feel. I 1000% thought that the footage of the hands and weapon were real recorded footage either on a green screen or meticulously cut out and then time remapped similar to how the glitchy robots were in Westworld. I'll be very surprised if this game ends up playing anything like this footage unless it is in VR. You can't get the choppy responses like they have with a mouse and keyboard. Plus the inability to aim properly with a mouse would kill it.
Do not pre-order this game, make them work for it. We thought that cyberpunk was supposed to be "THE" game of the new age and look how that turned out.
Look if the devs filmed with a GoPro the actual scenes, then made a like for like copy in digital format, very smart way forward. I absolutely love this, I love where this is going for the gaming world. We're seeing amazing new things since Unreal Engine 5, that true feeling of "Next gen" is finally here and I'd be happy to pay a considerable amount of cash to play this in VR. We desperately need a gap filled in the market for tactical shooters. Games like Rainbow 6 and Wildlands are literally what we're stuck with and it's all tailored to the COD type market.

I can see this being accomplished by a on-rails system where the player has very limited input. It basically plays out the cutscene but with limited interaction. You can aim the gun, low/high ready, hit a button for the interaction wheel at scripted moments (as it shows), maybe even command the movement a bit. A lot of this could also be placeholder right now (i.e. the gun interaction was filmed against a green screen with a chest go-pro in 8k). Would really need to see it launch from the menu and get a hands-on impression to see what is what. In the meantime, I'm just waiting on stalker 2 and geronimo for fps games.
