  • The ultimate test of any vehicle is a road trip, but using a minivan is basically a cheat sheet. For our latest road trip, it was partly good fortune and partly good planning that we had booked the 2024 Kia Carnival. This road trip had us on the road for about eight or nine hours each way, totalling over 1500 km or a thousand miles. Granted, this was not a cross-country road trip, or even a week-long camping trip, but the hectic pace of a soccer tournament weekend meant that we spent more time in the Carnival than the hotel and at the soccer fields combined!
The true purpose of a minivan's design is not luring eyeballs, but transporting the most cargo and passengers in the greatest comfort, all within a minimal footprint to preserve space and fuel efficiency. The two-box on wheels allows engineers to maximize that interior space with the things families care about. The Carnival has cavernous space and capacity for both passengers and cargo. Even with all three rows and seven seats in place, the Kia Carnival offers 1,139 litres (40 cubic feet) of cargo space, easily enough for my son's and my hockey bags, with plenty of room left over for a younger sibling's stroller or other bags.
For our road trip, we kept it in five-seat mode, opening up 2,460 L (87 cu-ft) and room for us to spread out our extra shoes, travel snacks, shopping acquisitions, and other detritus we did not want to lug up and down from the hotel room, plus more than enough room for our travel bags when it was time to head home. The Carnival was both a mobile living room and storage locker for the weekend event, allowing easy access to everything everywhere all at once instead of having to dig through it all to reach the one thing you need in the bowels of a trunk.

I'm looking forward to the Kia Carnival launching in India early this year. Thanks for summing up the features of this minivan neatly along with some fresh perspective from your kid. It made the review worthwhile to watch. 👍

Yeah in Canada after tax this is a whopping $17,000 CAD cheaper than the Toyota Sienna. I generally prefer Toyota and Japanese cars for reliability and the Hybrid has better gas mileage but $17,000 buys a lot of gas and a set of snow tires which trumps AWD.

Looking at a fully loaded Kia Carnival the other day. Considering trading our Volvo XC90 off on something more practical for a growing family. Dealers are charging full MSRP ($55k+ Canadian, there’s no way American buyers would pay $55k+ for this) for this car and the interior is VERY cheap. I cannot drop to that low of a build quality even in the fully loaded version. Buy a good used one as these will depreciate big time from full MSRP in the first 25k miles. If the dollar was par, ok maybe it’s worth what Americans are paying.
