@SHICOFF1 I do have great "worry". I "complained" to you many times. I wish it was my own suspect. I do feel it is high tall order to pass the door of Met. There are corporate sponsorship and boxoffice sales issues. It is true that there are a lot more Russian and Korea natives in and out off the Opera house at NYC. You are correct that many S Korean artists, because they do have more English education and connections throughout Julliard and in Korea. There is a great Soprano: Ying Huang, back early 2000', the great Beverly Sallis sit with her on PBS, great push of this young artist, she did perform at Met and did the English version of Magic Flute, but she never got any major roles. Unlike here, she got big recognization at Europe, they picked her to do the Madam B. Movie, when she was a student, such a great movie, maybe you had already seen. Now Ying Huang is the top choice of female role at China Opera, and teaches at the most prestigious music school, Shanghai. Check on her if you have some time, does not have big big voice, but her timbre is so unique and fantastic, silky and ringing gold... I thought Met or any US opera house could had her sing M. @@道-p2e Labo was an excellent Lyric Spinto tenor. He died in an auto accident at age 64. He was cross eyed and short, perhaps around 5' 2'' which might have been a deterrent for some shallow viewers, but I thought He was terrific. R.I.P.

he said in interview that his teachers projected him to be the great lyric tenor, not go too far into bigger voice area too soon. He did only realize his potential after he won the 3rd gold prize at big european competition 2007, then he took another, first prize again, he contributed a lot to the advises from judges and coaches, managers at Italy and Austria...still at his 30's
xu wang He seems to have the complete package for a lyric repertoire. He sings extremely well with a sense of excitement and charm. IMO, the tenor voice matures in its 40s but perhaps Turandot tessitura might be too heavy for him and he should establish himself first in the true lyric repertoire. Lucia elixir, Rigoletto, Boheme, pearl Fishers, Traviata, Barber etc.

He did a lot of Rossini since he won the Rossini competition. He is a professor now at China, spend half time performing overseas. He takes leading roles on new operas of chinese ancent novel, and national anthem theme. I will not want him to do the famous Turandot first aria, there is another younger chinese tenor immigrated to Australia before the age of college, sings without much accents and sounds bigger lyric voice, he is younger than Shi. @@道-p2e The Nessun Dorma is an aria that almost any professional tenor can handle, but the question and answer sequence with a few high Cs and heavy tessitura could be difficult for a lyric tenor. It's not so much the high Cs but the heavy tessitura can weigh on a lyric voice rather than a lyric spinto or spinto dramatic voice.

Reall nice and excellent pronounciation as well. I do feel he should sing the big lyrical passages more in one phrase and not thin out his voice at times (although you can do that in a piano recital setting).
