There's barely a difference between his old videos and new ones. The quality has always been high and he has always been great in front of the camera. He has improved, but not dramatically so.
Please update this video with examples of good/poor quality. Also, I’d love a video on correctly tying a tie so the front and back are equal lengths. One of your videos briefly mentions this. Thanks for all you do!
I enjoyed your video very much I found it very helpful in my research for making a necktie for the groom at a family wedding. Most of the instructional videos were for the "homemade" rather than the "handmade" look! Thankyou
Completed the whole series, seeking for the best knot for some recently inherited ties. First off: I'm really grateful for them (especially for the half Windsor, which I use the most). Second: re-checking some, I'm pretty sure Sven is left-handed. Fine, but mention it, 'cause it helps a lot when some knots feel unnatural to tie, but work just fine when mirroring it.
Such high quality content, well done Rafael! Now I wish I had ordered a tie along with the Fort Belvedere tie bar and boutonnière I got a short while back (which I love by the way!).
I am rewatching several videos from your channel and, let me tell you, this suit you are wearing is so cool! You should bring it to the channel rotation of outfits even if it messes around with the video.
Hard to tell which are genuine tips on how to recognize a quality tie and which are just intended produce the conclusion that Raphael's shop's (overpriced) ties are the best.
I buy whatever ties look nice most of the time because I mostly buy vintage ties, however I'll typically follow this guide when buying new times in person.
Thanks for the info! Should be useful when I try to sew my brother a tie. Christmas is coming up and I want to use a specific cloth (It has an awesome design)
I never buy ties from the U.S.A. import tax is to high here in England. Macclesfield silk factories in England make the silk ties for Kiton Drakes and E Marienella and many others! Regards. Connell
What I like is you address the difference between inefficient manufacturing and material quality. You could have two ties that cost the same, but one used seven fold and cost more to make, without any benefit, while the three fold tie made it in a more cost effective way but used that savings to buy and weave a higher quality silk fabric. Cost cutting in manufacture shouldn't be a boogyman if it's done with common sense and doesn't effect the quality of the end product.
Hello Raphael! I have been reading articles on your website to get a better idea of how to dress my eight year old son who is quite interested in dressing himself. I have been buying children's clothing almost exclusively from Ralph Lauren because of the visual appeal. However, the quality leaves much to be desired. Do you have any other recommendations for children's clothing?
Is there a video on tie care? How to store, how to clean, how to press.Being tall I find most ties too short. To get the tip at the trouser line I have to tie the knot at where the tie is skinny.
Frank E Davidson my buddy has that problem also, he's like 6' 5", but he was able to fine some ties at like Macy's that worked. Not many choices, but its a start. Also JCPennys has. Neither place has top quality toes though...
Thanks Raphael, I watched most of your videos if not all, I must say this is the first time I disagree with something you said, some of the seven folds ties comes with greater quality; fine silk rather than some filling while still slim. I invite you to try Bvlgari for example and compare it to a fine three fold tie.
Excellent video; subscribed! Just curious about the jacket you are wearing - could you possibly share some details, maybe even a link to where I can order it from? Many thanks!
10:40 the taper on your haircut on the sides is uneven giving you a sort of table top/bowl edge cut appearance ... Intentional or not, I think it would look better squared off - straight up and down on the sides.
I love interesting ties. Some of the best pattens seem to come from the USA but the postage to the UK is too much. Plenty of good ones on eBay. Wouldn’t like to spend too much on a tie in case sauce gets spilled on it! But l have about 30 ties and all good so far, some 20 years old. I really enjoy these videos. Would love to dress smart all the time but walking the dog and mucking out the horse means old clothes.
I have to disagree with you on the 7 fold tie not being better. I own a few Kiton and RLPL 7 fold ties and there is no comparison with the knot they tie to my other ties. For starters, the silk has to be thicker and of a better quality in order to make a 7 fold. In addition, the silk is more resilient than the interlining and will last longer. A tie can get "tired" after too many uses, but a 7 fold tends to last a lot longer. Otherwise, very educational.
If you like a 7-fold tie more because of the knot you probably never had great 3 -fold ties. I have 7-fold ties from Kiton and they are average at best, not more.
oh so that is why my ties thread rips after various uses, because the stitching is too tight, I thought I didnt hang them right or tied them to tight or whatever.
brandon Light lol. Send them to me. I've wanted to make a tie skirt for a long time now, but ties are expensive, so if I need a dozen or more for the project...😂🙈
I'm one of those pigs who doesn't untie my ties unless the flying end twists too much in the knot. I can usually fix the twist, but a few of my ties fight me a bit much, and I re-tie them.
Well silk originated in China... 12:40 - quality silk woven in the traditional way (cloud brocade) from China can be more than 15-20 times more expensive than those from Italy or Britain.
I'm afraid we don't have it anymore but feel free to check out some of our other yellow ties here www.gentlemansgazette.com/shop/accessories/ties?color=12
I've had to hand sew several of my ties shut. Here's the kicker. These are the "hand made" custom ties from Magnoli Clothiers. It sucks because I love the different look for these ties and they're replicating designs from ties that are long since sold out. Mainly the known ties worn by the 10th Doctor. So ties such as Thomas Nash, Armani, Ricci, Kenzo, St George by Duffer and La Croix that David Tennant wore are replicated. However after owning the ties for about 3 years now, some of the stitching came loose and undone. Worse! I got a tie that replicated a Kenzo tie from Magnoli and the stitching came undone inside of a month! Which sucks since I love the ties that were worn on the show and having spent that kind of money on those ties only to have them come loose with the stitching holding them together really irked me. Mind you this happened after a while of owning these ties. They say they're high quality, but my experiences proved otherwise.
Interesting information. Thanks. (However, next time, please .... don't bother with the inane drumming in the background. I only just made it through!)
I've been very interested in becoming a new client of Fort Belevedere...but your reference to silk from "China" is giving me second thoughts. Surely there are other sources of silk for your otherwise nice ties?
Anthony Anderson I am a big Ralph Lauren fan when it comes to ties, so yes, I recommend. The other two you mentioned, I am not familiar, but I have felt a Billy London garment before, and I passed on it.
Robert Talbott 7 fold tie of one piece of silk is the best tie ever. You just disqualified yourself. I’ll have a more critical view as I watch your videos now.
So, spend over a hundred dollars on a super duper expensive tie, and then, if I want lots of ties, buy more and spend thousands of dollars on expensive ties? How about no? Think I'll stick to cheap silk ties thanks. I'm only going to entry level job interviews, not interviews for executive positions at prestigious multinational billion and trillion dollar corporations. Pretty sure the interviewers in their hoodies and sweatpants can't tell the difference between an expensive tie or a cheap tie anyway. They'll probably be impressed I bothered to wear a suit to the interview at all, to be honest...
Agh! Good video spoiled by incessant bloody light jazz drumming throughout the whole thing. Couldn't listen to what was being said for waiting for a drop.
It's funny to watch Raphael's old videos.
He was so awkward in front of the camera. xD
But look at him now. He's come a long a way.
God bless.
There's barely a difference between his old videos and new ones. The quality has always been high and he has always been great in front of the camera. He has improved, but not dramatically so.
@@zunedog31 I instantly noticed.
Please update this video with examples of good/poor quality. Also, I’d love a video on correctly tying a tie so the front and back are equal lengths. One of your videos briefly mentions this. Thanks for all you do!
I recently bought a Fort Belvedere tie to see the quality for myself. After examining and wearing it I was so impressed I bought twelve more.
Twelve more?! Wow.
pro tip of the day: "but don't rip too hard because, otherwise, the store will make you pay for it" :)
Thank you in 2024! Maybe a follow up video for linen ties?
He is so excited about his ties. Very cool.
His tie, in this tie video, looks great!
Thanks, I learned a lot. I recently acquired retro/vintage and new ties passed down to me. High quality flashy and classy.
Great content. Thanks for taking time to make this video.😀
I enjoyed your video very much I found it very helpful in my research for making a necktie for the groom at a family wedding. Most of the instructional videos were for the "homemade" rather than the "handmade" look! Thankyou
"If you'd like to put your, your... Your slimmer end, through the keeper..."
Had a chuckle at that sudden awkwardness.
Completed the whole series, seeking for the best knot for some recently inherited ties.

Second: re-checking some, I'm pretty sure Sven is left-handed. Fine, but mention it, 'cause it helps a lot when some knots feel unnatural to tie, but work just fine when mirroring it.
Thank you for all your tips, thanks to watching your videos I am now back to attempting to get some good quality clothing. Great tips
Such high quality content, well done Rafael! Now I wish I had ordered a tie along with the Fort Belvedere tie bar and boutonnière I got a short while back (which I love by the way!).
Bjorn van Sinttruije Glad to hear you like the tie bar and the video and the ties will be waiting for you ;).
I am rewatching several videos from your channel and, let me tell you, this suit you are wearing is so cool! You should bring it to the channel rotation of outfits even if it messes around with the video.
I store my ties rolled up (not too tightly) in a drawer. I don't have any trouble with them being out of shape or curled etc.
depends on how often you wear them too
One of your best & most informative episodes.
Hard to tell which are genuine tips on how to recognize a quality tie and which are just intended produce the conclusion that Raphael's shop's (overpriced) ties are the best.
you sell AMAZING ties,
Thank you!
Kiton 7 fold ties have a perfect knot and drape.
I buy whatever ties look nice most of the time because I mostly buy vintage ties, however I'll typically follow this guide when buying new times in person.
Thank you for all your videos
Very informative. Thank you very much.
+Jordon Grubic Thanks
Thanks for the info! Should be useful when I try to sew my brother a tie. Christmas is coming up and I want to use a specific cloth (It has an awesome design)
Nice video , any help for a lot of us that cannot afford $150 for a tie, asking with sincerity.
Very educational
Thank you for the videos!!
great video! well covered
I have experienced some of these problems with ties. Good to know there are methods to avoid buying these lower quality products.
I'm a woman and I enjoy your channel because I like seeing well dressed men. :-)
I never buy ties from the U.S.A. import tax is to high here in England.
Macclesfield silk factories in England make the silk ties for Kiton Drakes and E Marienella and many others!

Connell
+Connell MacCool we get some silks from macclesfield as well, but just the out silk doesn't make a good tie yet...
Budd shirt-maker's also have very good ancient madder ties, they are also sourced from Macclesfield
And ummmm... I approve of this video. 👍🏽
E Marienella make lovely ties!
+Connell MacCool most of them come in one size though, unline Fort Belvedere which come in 3 sizes.
Good

One aspect you seem to have missed; tie length. I understand that really good tailors offer five lengths of tie for men of different height.
Fort Belvedere has different lengths available.
Best episode!
Thanks
I really like this video. I'd just like to suggest perhaps having lower quality clothing items to illustrate what to avoid as well in future videos.
keep the keeper!
I like "old" vintage ties. So, I buy them used on eBay for about 6.00 to 8.00 bucks...and they look and hold up very well.

No blinking mode: ENABLED
Looking slim. Very nice. Found your mojo then? Great video.
I need to buy one of those Fort Belvedere ties, I'm currently wearing mostly Hermes, Passaggio Cravatte and Zegna.

Magnifique infiniment Top joliment Merci
What is your opinion on Jerry Garcia ties? Are the designs too whimsical to be fashionable?
Bravo!
Nora Barnacle Merci!
I use a trinity knot or a Merovingian knot so my keepers hardly ever get used they became a bit redundant tbh
Never in the history of the world has so much been said about so little.
Thanks Raphael, I watched most of your videos if not all, I must say this is the first time I disagree with something you said, some of the seven folds ties comes with greater quality; fine silk rather than some filling while still slim. Amazing. Now I know my tailors trick. The sevenfold way is best.... really? I can check the quality now since he is not cheap.
I am just curious what kind of trouser and shoe you wear in this video. Please share with us!
Excellent video; subscribed!
Just curious about the jacket you are wearing - could you possibly share some details, maybe even a link to where I can order it from? Many thanks!
+Bombatron Excellent.
This jacket was custom made by A. Caraceni in Milan, Italy.
Bombatron you didn't give out the info the person ask for.
What about maintenance of a tie? Wrinkles and the like
10:40 the taper on your haircut on the sides is uneven giving you a sort of table top/bowl edge cut appearance ... Intentional or not, I think it would look better squared off - straight up and down on the sides.

Yes! Perfect!
Where are the ties made? Your site indicates Vietnam...but thid video indicates otherwise. Which is correct?
Good video would be what ties are worth the money
oh so that is why my ties thread rips after various uses, because the stitching is too tight, I thought I didnt hang them right or tied them to tight or whatever.
+brandon Light Yep, seems like the ties are cheap.
Yeah, well they are $25 from sears haha.
brandon Light lol. Send them to me. I've wanted to make a tie skirt for a long time now, but ties are expensive, so if I need a dozen or more for the project...😂🙈
I have expensive ties (~$100) and cheap ties (~$10). None have ever ripped. I am surprised ripped ties are a thing.
I'm one of those pigs who doesn't untie my ties unless the flying end twists too much in the knot. I can usually fix the twist, but a few of my ties fight me a bit much, and I re-tie them.
That jazz drummer kinda got beside himself there.
Purée beauté
I want to make ties.
Is it possible to get a tie made without a keeper?
I always hear “nice tie” but I don’t see what’s nice or different about said tie
No pinky ring in this?
Well silk originated in China... 12:40 - quality silk woven in the traditional way (cloud brocade) from China can be more than 15-20 times more expensive than those from Italy or Britain.
Where do you get your boutonnieres?
Mr. Schneider designs them himself. They're from Fort Belvedere: www.gentlemansgazette.com/shop/accessories/boutonnieres
Sven, where can I purchase the yellow tie in the thumbnail? I can't seem to find it in your shop. Thanks!
I'm afraid we don't have it anymore but feel free to check out some of our other yellow ties here www.gentlemansgazette.com/shop/accessories/ties?color=12
Bro your knot is crooked ,Thanks for the video anyway 👍👌😉
paulo sanchez murillo the knot is the four in hand knot
It’s supposed to be that way
I've had to hand sew several of my ties shut. Here's the kicker. These are the "hand made" custom ties from Magnoli Clothiers. LOL

From what ive gathered, Fort Belvedere uses european silk
Hey great video! But i'm completely new at the tie game. Are Mario Lorenzi, Billy London, and Ralph Lauren good brands?
Anthony Anderson I am a big Ralph Lauren fan when it comes to ties, so yes, I recommend. The other two you mentioned, I am not familiar, but I have felt a Billy London garment before, and I passed on it.
Anthony Anderson Try E. Zegna, Hermes or Dunhill, bro.
What's with that haircut! :o
I don’t care for it either. I have hearing problems & have difficulty separating the two.
"It will curve, and not hang, properly."
I am sorry.
I don't know, I bought a good-looking tie for $10. I think I got the best value for the money.
He’s all tied, flowered , buttoned up and parceled , afraid to move in case he wrinkles something, I’d hate to feel like he looks.
100 fold?
Straighten your tie please!
Robert Talbott 7 fold tie of one piece of silk is the best tie ever. You just disqualified yourself. I’ll have a more critical view as I watch your videos now.
Your music sounds like a sputtering car that’s not getting enough fuel.
i dont like his comparison to razors. 3 blade razors are better than sinlge blades. its proven
😂😂😂

Agh! Good video spoiled by incessant bloody light jazz drumming throughout the whole thing. Couldn't listen to what was being said for waiting for a drop.
Wow he's so awkward in these old videos.
You're always hyping up single blade razors... yet in like every video, your face is covered in tiny stubble~ It looks bad~
Sven you tie knot bothers me because it has a bad fold
Bro, that haircut... lol
You wearing lipstick?
