    Hello everyone who has been following me since the beginning of my reaction days when the channel was still called bbangerang. I have decided to start a new chapter in my life and have rebranded my channel. I as a person have changed a lot and the channel is evolving with me.
    I had a lot of fun with the reactions, but as I said a lot has happened over the years and I have moved on from that. I still love and adore watching tv shows and movies, but i’m not recording them anymore.
    I was stuck for so long trying to figure out what to do with the channel that it left me stuck with inaction. That’s why i have decided to rebrand. I understand if I’m gonna lose a lot of subscribers because i’m not going to post any more reactions. For the people who are still here for me, i invite you to follow along on my new journey in life.
    Thank you for watching, supporting and all the love over the years, here’s to a new chapter!
    Love Daeny/ Debora
    💛

    May I suggest you make berms around the trees like a moat, so the water goes down to the roots.I use milk gallon jugs with holes poked into the bottom to water my plants slowly. Somehow you must get the water to go down to the roots. I grew up in Northern Calif. We had every tree you could imagine. 3 walnut, oranges, apples, nectarines pomegranates kumquats, lemon, lime, Apricot, almond. I loved it! I miss all the trees. Living in Colorado Springs has really short growing seasons. I wish your journey turns out to be successful and a everything you dream.

    In all honesty that house is like a museum of old times in pt...the floor tiles are simply stunning and a treasure to find in such good conditions in all rooms, the same for the furniture, so typical, love the vanity cabinet, and the kitchen cabinet with glass doors, its all so beautiful and recall so many of 'our' memories. Very precious find and hope you'll find hapiness here! Bem vindos!

    You should not be removing the weed and mulch from the ground. That itself will keep the soil cool, moist and will help your trees to grow healthier and faster. Please follow permaculture principles to transform your garden.

    • @TheOrangeHomestead
      @TheOrangeHomestead  2 года назад +10

      I know, we're not removing all the weed and mulch. The ground underneath the trees was packed with very high weeds. We couldn't even get close enough to the trees to cut off the dead branches. The tractor needed to pass and it needed to be cleaned after so many years of abandonment. I will follow the permaculture principles, no worries. Thank you for the advice.

    Awesome place! To have that furniture to polish up and care for. A museum piece.! Dont sell anything, keep it all! Floors stunning! Just needs fresh white paint and change things around to your needs. Gorgeous patio room for plants. I owned a orange smallholding . Clean away weeds, as they are a firehazard and take goodness from ground. Make a "well " around each tree to end of leaf drip line. Easy to fill with water as you are weeding. Slowly buy straw, bark, stones, and pack it under tree.Keeps treees free of weeds and cool. .Check when feeding is needed.

    You can do a lime wash paint from the ground up about 4 feet. To help keep the bugs out of the trees. And also take building tape. We call it duct tape or Gorilla tape. And circle the trunk of the tree with the tape sticky side out. When the ants get to the tape it will hold them in the sticky glue. Circle the tree with 4-5 rounds of the tape sticky side out. And you will have about 10-12 inches of sticky to catch the ants. Hope this helps. Or try Food Grade-- Diatomaceous Earth to kill the ants. And it will not harm your pet. It can be used to kill fleas, ticks or mites and spiders as well. And a wormer for animals. Safe on humans. They will eat your trees up. The trees need a good mulch to conserve water and protect the roots in Winter. Use some wood ash around the bottom of the trees for some fertilizer. Love the old timey feel to the house and the tiles. It will be beautiful. I would plant some roses around and sunflowers in summer.

    I hope you're prepared to deal with a lot of unsolicited advice.
    For instance, your water usage with the method of irrigation you're using is not efficient. Is your water provided by the city or do you have your own well? Install drip irrigation as soon as possible. Each of those trees needs at least 3 drip emitters, 2 meters away from the tree trunk. The main roots of the trees are no longer near the trunk.
    Good luck!

    • @TheOrangeHomestead
      @TheOrangeHomestead  2 года назад +1

      Yes, we have 2 wells. I know this method of irrigation is not ideal, but we're making due with what we've got for now. The trees were dying and then the heatwave came so we decided to help them a little. We don't have electricity and our well in controlled by a machine which also needs to be fixed, but you need electricity for the machine to work. We're planning on installing the drip irrigation asap, that's the next step.
      Thank you :)

    If the house is cool in summer, you can be sure it'll be cold and especially damp in winter, and those floors won't help, but the thick walls will certainly help make it possible find a good solution.
    So sad with the many abandoned homes and even villages in Portugal but that's been a problem in Portugal for many years. In 1996, I sat in a train compartment with three Portuguese who worked in Paris and were going home for the hols. They didn't know I speak Portuguese, so sat for hours talking non-stop about farming, especially the cultivation of nuts. Professionals talking about the various types of nut, how to cultivate them, which regions had the best of which type of nut, etc. It was profoundly interesting to hear and profoundly sad to think that all that knowledge was being unused, with the possessors of that knowledge holding down menial jobs in Paris.

    • @TheOrangeHomestead
      @TheOrangeHomestead  2 года назад

      My grandparents also had to leave Portugal in the 1960s to search for a job in another country. They left Portugal to go live in Belgium, where they could find work. He also loved working in the garden in his days. Listening to the ancestors because they have the knowledge 🙏

      Suspected you were perhaps of Portuguese origin. The people I was talking about weren't talking about work in the garden, btw, they were talking about nut farming.
      You don't mention what kind of trees are in what is properly an orchard and say you want to clear them. Why would you want to do that?
      Best of luck with your enterprise.

      It's too old, has a lot of ants in it, which the ants are killing the fruit trees. Has to be cleaned out, naturally treated, sprayed with natural spray solution to kill the ants, then tilled, then replaced with fresh. Just because it's there, doesn't mean it's good. Everything has a expiration . A time to plow, a time to sow, a time to harvest, a time to reap and enjoy the rewards of hard work, labor, care and time. They'll get there.

    The house looks quite upscale for 1939, remember that's between the big wars...it has lots of potential. Portugal lost 30,000 men in WW1, stayed neutral in the second. Only had a population of 3 million then... Your house is lovely with much potential... good luck.

    did the local government agree to allow the barn to be converted to habitation before you purchased the land? The normal regulations throughout most of Portugal is that you can rebuild if the original structure was for human habitation, but you can't turn animal buildings in to homes. You might have a fight on your hands trying to turn the barn into a home

    U believe you are favoring evaporation from the soil when you remove all that material around the base of the trees, are you going to apply mulch or just leave the bare soil like that?
