Evenings at the Estuary is a lecture series co-sponsored by the Elkhorn Slough Reserve and Elkhorn Slough Foundation. The theme of our 2021 presentations is Community Conservation Action. In the first installment, join Kathy McKenzie and Glenn Church discussing their latest book "Humbled: How California's Monterey Bay Escaped Industrial Ruin."
Detailing the often overlooked history of how Elkhorn Slough and Monterey Bay very nearly became home to a massive oil refinery in the 1960s, "Humbled" takes a closer look at one of the earliest confrontations between industrial capitalism and a budding environmental movement.
