Oh that's awesome you're from Shanghai too! Whenever we're in NZ (or somewhere other than China) and we hear someone speak Shanghainese we always give each other a little smile 😁 it is just nice to hear!
Dang I haven’t had free time to watch RUclips in so long. 😭😭😭 feels so good to watch y’all’s videos I just love how they flow and also give information. Bonus mom feature
This episode is as good as others. Next time, I will take you guys to other ancient towns. The ancient towns around Shanghai have their own characteristics, and I look forward to watching the next episode. Thank you for sharing. Good job❤😍🥰🥳🥳
Excellent music and silence to hear sounds of the environment come through the tasteful narration. Having Peter's mum along adds so much counterpoint to the stunning historical views.
Thanks for noticing the sound editing George ✌️😊🐦 Peter's been getting really good at letting the environment sounds come through where he feels it works 😊
Daaang what a cooool place!! I would love walking around there…very very cool…really enjoyed looking at this place.. made me want to go to Shanghai even more… also.. mom: “This kind of eel they already taken out all the bones.” Peter (baffled at his bony eel childhood): “Why can’t we always get it like this??” 😂😂 I like how mom is deny deny deny and sticking to her story regarding the beating stick 😂 . Well done mom 😅😅 Fun to see mom and you guys! Thanks for getting me even more excited for Shanghai… great vid as always! Can’t wait for #3!
Hahahaha she always tries to deny it 🤣🧹 also I saw Peter's boney eel childhood flash before his eyes at that 🤣🤣 hopefully you get a chance to visit when you eventually go! There are 3 other ones in Shanghai apparently that might feel less commercial (and not as well preserved) but we enjoyed the vibe at this one 🙂 final vlog is very crabby 🦀🦀😁 just trying to finish it up today!
Mom is denying everything hahaha Those scissors are perfect to collect, they are so pretty and unique. The streets are so beautiful, I would love to get lost there. Love when eating something that remind us of our childhood, what a feeling. Everything you are showing is incredibly beautiful, thank you for showing us this other side of Shanghai Things in constant change but I think our generation has seen a huge impact from being average cities to becoming big technological cities with tons of modern stuff mixed with the old. I can relate, to me, Madrid has changed so much. And I am sure Lieles feels the same about NYC.
NYC must have gone through something super similar to Shanghai. It's crazy looking back at old photos. It's like a complete different city. China has a lot of really unique gems that a relatively unknown in Western media. So cool even though I'm a lil biased 😁
Thank you Darryl! We love that we can share these beautiful places with everyone who watches our videos 😊🙌 can you believe it's Christmas soon and then it'll be the new year? Jeepers the year has blitzed by! You all ready for the festive season? 🙂🎄✨🎉
@PeterandYen we are so lucky to be subscribed 😊. The year has flashed by, thankfully, as it's been a terrible year for me. Bring on 2024! Our Christmas will be quiet, how about you guys?
Oh noooo so sorry to hear it hasn't been a good year for you 😓😓 I hope 2024 brings in infinite better everything for you! 🍀🍀🍀🤞 It'll be a quiet one for us too.. just the usual family and friends dinner back at Peter's parents place. A lot of other friends are overseas this Dec.
Love the food in the narrow lanes, the barbecue pork slices with toast, it made me very hungry watching it 7 am my time 😋 This tour around Zhujiajiao is really nice, appreciate it, the historical buildings Plus the Mah Residence, can pick the video series being shot there back in the days Pete your mum is so natural, can see where you got your calm confidence from 👍🏻😀. BTW, I believe your mum, spoken like a true Legal Counsel, "I never beat you using that"... 😎 Look forward to your third and last vlog next week, got to go Need to pack for my Xmas Break 😄 Have a great week
Hello L H where are you packing for? Sounds exciting 🤔😁 For whatever reason despite all the beatings as a kid mum now denies ever doing that 😂😂 I don't understand. Yen n I are working on that final vlog now almost finished 😊 Hope you have a great trip 🎄
Ran a fever on flight ✈ Tested upon landing 😳 Now in a studio apartment in a place called the Land of the Long Clouds⛅, rest of family all good and enjoying themselves else where It is still okay, place has a balcony and day 7 is this Sat Freedom 😆
Ooooo noooo hope the 7 days goes by real fast 😅 you picked a great time of year to see the land of the long white clouds all the pohutikawa blooms are extra red for this year 😁
Hey I’m from India and I’m on business travel in shanghai, was trying to explore this ancient village this Sunday and your video has been super helpful. Thank you!
Zhujiajiao is so different to modern Shanghai, it looks like it could be a different century! I love the contrast of the hustle and bustle at the river and then the tranquility of the garden. The food looked delicious as well, I'm glad I'd had lunch before watching 😋 How easy would it be for an English speaking pescatarian to explore Shanghai?
It felt like a glimpse into the past for sure 😊 ooooo Rob! Are you considering visiting? That would be such a cool adventure! 😃 Hmmm well of all the cities in china Shanghai is prob the best one for English speakers. A lot of signs are in English and if you just prepare a lil before visiting (like setting up Alipay, getting a VPN, local map app like Baidu - though it is in Chinese!) you'll be able to get by pretty good. The metro train to get around is very easy too. As for food there's lots of it and lots of vegetarian and fish options too.. plus there's this one called xun yu which is one of my faves! It's a cold, fried dish but soaked in sweet soy sauce and so delicious! My other fave is suan cai yu.. a hot and sour pickled mustard soup with really tender pieces of fish. Sooo good 🤤🤤🤤
I am surprised that this spot didn't look as crowded as I anticipated. It's good for you guys tho. Those rivers, bridges and Ancient towns look like those in China drama olden days series 😅. I like eels too but I can only eat the Japanese ones with a lot of sauce. Oh they did one with salt and green tea was really good too.
Yea it was crowded but not over crowded which gave it a fun vibe! 🙂 Plus having the quiet spots to escape to was great 👍👍 how are you enjoying Japan? Which city are you in? 🙂
@PeterandYen Japan is overcrowded whenever we go even on a subway train too. We stood most of the time with our little girls. It's our second week in Japan now, we were in Osaka before and now in Hokkaido. It's snow everywhere here even before you reach Hokkaido. I must say, nothing is cheap in Japan anymore.
Wow, Shanghai is such a beautiful place. I can't put my hand up for experiencing whatever that odd looking food was. And now we know why Peter is so well behaved 😂
My hometown Shanghai, really nice to hear so many familiar sounds from the background. Thank you!

Lovely gardens and area. Love your Mum's beautiful jacket too 💖 Did she get that in NZ?
It was lovely! Mum said she actually bought that in a leather boutique in Pamukkale.. Turkey! 🙂

ooooh this place looks so awesome!
So fun to visit! It was such a vibe there 😊
How to go to the town after arrival Zhujiajiao station ?
Video is nice. Do they have lots of stop place to take rest coz i am afraid my parents’s leg will tired..😢
Yes there are plenty of places to rest in the area. Your parents should be fine.
Hope you guys have been to the place where the movie, 'The Eight Hundred' talked about so we can hear from you two.
Had to Google the movie so wouldn't have gone and can't speak on it sorry 😅 was it a really good movie?
@@PeterandYen it based on a real life event. Rotten Tomatoes rated it at 88% while IMDB rated it at 6.7.
Ooo sounds good gonna put it on our movie watch list

@PeterandYen I love Japan but the crowd really put me off. I am overwhelmed with the amount of food they have that I become picky

Hahaha 😂 it was frog! 🐸
😂 Just as well I didn't 'jump' to conclusions.
Haha no worries and hoppy holidays btw! 😄🐸
Thanks, you two too!
Just seen the hoppy 😂
Ask to see the menu. It will bear the name of restaurant!
