What great tempo, continuity and storytelling - from beginning to end. Great underlying messages. One reason why it's so powerful is that UA (Fallon) gives their viewers credit for have a little intelligence.Best commercial I have ever seen. Barely a word spoken.
All of this, yet no one notices the scene at 0:50 - 0:60 or thereabouts: it's a bunch of people walking past, each having the lightbulb experience (kind of like a commercial version of Pentacost, if you ask me). Then there's a dog being held by one of the people (lower right of the screen), and while the folks all have lightbulbs over their heads, the dog has a bone as its image of inspiration. Very clever, and a bit more subtle than the "All Bran Construction Worker" ad, an ad which one should see.
One of my favorites. Such intimacy & expression through such simplistic animation. I detect flavors of Charles M. Schultz, Norman Rockwell and Mr. Rogers. Though I know the music to be Gershwin, I can't put my finger on it - what to call the whole theme/style they're shooting for? "Impressionistic"? "Contemporary"?
Why don't they air these commericals anymore? I never understood that. They will go and sink a couple more million into new ads that don't even stand up to this one. why?
Rhapsody in blue.....the music that makes the commercials beloved classics...
"Rhapsody in Blue" by George Gershwin. It's been used continuously in United Airlines ads since 1987/88.

AWESOME song! George Gerswhin's "Rhapsody In Blue". Recognize the voice? It's Robert Redford. Always did like the sound of his voice...

If Robert Redford does the voice, it has to be a good commercial. :)
i love the comments from people who think that this video is about a woman who invented a light bulb.
Rhapsody in Blue
Does anyone know if I can get the Midi for this particular video? I like this version of Rhapsody in blue better than the others.

Probably on the belief that people have turned into, at greatest, dullards with money (that used to be a contradiction) , since the mid-1990s
wasnt the lighbulb around before United......anyway, cute ad.
LOL!
I'm not laughing at you...just laughing at how people see things differently.
A Comment ... Gershwinn
