As a white Cop who used to work in a small town with a black community, I found myself at a Black Cookout once while patrolling the neighborhood. The invite caught me off guard, but I couldn't turn them down. Great experience, and from that point forward, we were FAM. God Bless my dudes!
One time I donated a bunch of baby stuff to a "black church" on the street I lived on. They were cooking and MADE me get a plate to take back with me since I couldn't stay. I found out "a plate" is like 3-4 plates full of the meat, vegetables and stuff. Then you get a plate or two full of dessert. I ate off that food for nearly a week and it was the best damn food I ever ate. Everyone was so nice.
@@mrbootieeater6585 Because there was, according to OP, 6 full plates. I eat 3 meals a day, and even I’d be able to stretch that shit out! One of my classmates, Gerome, invited me to a family cookout and I was the only white person there. I still remember it as one of the best times I ever had! These were without a doubt, some of the best times in my life and the best sermon I've ever heard. When the pastor came to say hello, all I could do was hug him and cry! Too many people in power are trying to drive the human race apart. We've all made mistakes in life, God forgave us and sent his son to die for us. I wish we could follow his example and love everyone for who they are, not the color of their skin! Love you No Life Shaq!
I was at a Mexican/Guatemalan cookout years ago. Some of the best food I have ever eaten. So much more than the typical American (summer bbq type) cookout.
As a male of the Caucasian persuasion I can vouch for this experience. My best friend we grew up knowing each other from school invited me over for a cookout one day. I'm a big guy and I can eat. I can tell you by the end of the first plate I had the meat sweats from all that good food. But i pushed on and had atleast another plate and a half of food then dessert. The sides, the desserts, the drinks, the music, and most of all the company was fantastic. Not one single person looked at me differently or said anything about me being there. I was welcome with open arms and I was invited again and I asked what to bring and Nana Fran said "Just bring that appetite". I also invited them to my cookouts so they can show my family how to cook lmai
Obviously one outstood the other right...If it were me I'd say they both good then after the cookout I'd go to aunty good salad without the other aunty noticing then BOOM!!! We like life long foodie besties..It works 100%
I'm a 57 year old white woman. I've never been to a black cookout, but my husband and I did go to an all black memorial service for a dear friend who passed from cancer just over a year ago, where about 60 members of her extended family were there. Besides the tablecloths and napkins, we were the only white things there, too....LOL We were sat front & center at the table of honor with her immediate family when we arrived, and they asked me to give a speech during the service. We were treated like family and told that we are a part of their family now. We spent the last 2 weeks of her life getting to know Brenda's family during her hospice, and we were her doggy god-parents, caring for her pup while she was in and out of the hospital over the last year, and now have the gift of her goofy little poodle as a daily reminder of her sweet soul. Her family all lived out of state and she hid her illness from them until the very end. She was a former neighbor, and we always watched out for her, making sure she had food, running errands, taking her to appointments, etc. I could probably do a video myself, though....it's amazing how people are basically all the same, but cultures and traditions can be so different! Zach is absolutely correct, though...her family are some of the best people we've ever met and we stay in touch with her brothers & sisters on a regular basis. If we're ever invited to one of their cookouts, you can bet we're going! It's a shame that the media and politics has so many thinking that things are much worse than they are when it comes to race relations. We're all the same. God bless you for helping bring people together with your videos!
People are People and families are families we just have to have an open mind and want to get to know others of different nationalities you will be surprised how we are more alike and you can grow a great bond and long lasting friendships if we give others a chance You are an awesome friend and neighbor while she was sick and color didn't stop you from caring for her and her dog only good things will come out of loving thy neighbor God bless you and, your family
Sometimes media has nothing to do with it. the struggle African Americans go through on a daily basis is just upsetting. I know some really close friends of mine who've been treated like trash because of their culture. Imagine being pulled over not knowing if you're gonna make it home to your children. Not knowing if the officer is crooked or not. Not knowing if their body cam is on or off, or if they're gonna plant drugs on you.
The media is purposely trying to cause tentions. I'm white as a ghost and live in the hood. Most my friends and family are black. I never see any kind of raceist bs from either side. We all get along great. I've been to plenty of black cookouts and they are awsome. You should definitely go of given the chance. Just make sure you are ready to eat. Don't be going and thinking you are gonna stick to some diet .
My first black cookout was in TN. They were our neighbors. My roommate sent me out cause she was nervous. Wound up being the first time i played a scratcher ticket. I won 25$ off a dollar and it was the best bbq pork ribs I've ever had. Even more, i felt like part of the family. It didn't matter i was white. Honestly one of my favorite memories.
I got blessed to be able to go to a huge black family reunion at a small church in my neighborhood. I delivered some family reunion t-shirts that they had made. There was over 100 t-shirts. When I got out of the car and carried the shirts, the lady who ordered the shirts, hugged me up til I almost passed out. When I got my breath back, she grabbed my by the arm and lead me over to the family, where I got a standing ovation. She said, "let's eat." I was the first one to get a plate of the best bbq ever. We prayed, and pigged. Many of the people made a trip over to me the thank me for the shirts. I had my mouth to full of bbq to say anything, but waved to them. I remember this like it was yesterday.
I've been invited to a cookout before, the best way I can put it into perspective is that the grandmother is basically the queen of the empire, so act accordingly.

I think it would be fun at a church full of black Americans. You see videos and so forth and they be dancing and singing and really get into Sunday services.
One thing about black churches as they get into the spirit they get into the word and no matter what race you are they encourage you to join along with them and in my opinion that's some of the most un racial stuff I've ever seen
I had a white coworker end up at a black family reunion/cookout after hunting that morning bc he thought it was a roadside BBQ joint. He said he and his friend got some strange looks but nobody said anything as they were in line getting food but everyone was so nice. He asked someone next to him where he needed to go pay for his food and that's when he found out what it was lol! They REFUSED to take his money and said they were glad to have him and his friend and that they should enjoy themselves. He said it was some of the best food he ever ate!
I was in a similar situation, except I was a five year old tomboy, and it was a Mexican cookout. To this day, I wonder what that family thought of a strange barefoot little white girl, who wandered out of the woods, ate some food, played with their kids, then disappeared back into the woods.
Originally from poland, currently 29. Grew up in Brooklyn, I speak 4 languages, I'm into old school reggae, soundchashes, for those of you familiar, worked 7 different jobs loving them all, since moving to the states, my 3 siblings divided into 13 little beautiful people, that are VERY MULTICULTURAL. My god son is half polish, the other half is Jamaican/ Guyanese / Japanese/ Brazilian. the most fun I've ever had at parties, was with West Indian people ( trinidad/ Guyana) and the Caribbean nations. Zach Rushing's not only hilarious (as this video shows), but he's also a big-hearted humanitarian who helps out with kids suffering through ailments like cancer and cerebral palsy. Gotta give praise to those among us that use thier hearts as motivation before anything else. 👏
Once a month in my town there is a big cookout like this where all the black families show up and pretty much take over an intersection of two streets. You can't get through there in a vehicle, so you have to go around. One day I got a flat tire right by that intersection and some folks at the cookout saw me. They came over and asked if I needed help. When we were done, I offered them some cash for helping me out. They said, man we don't need your money, just trying to help a brother out but what you could do is come over and hang with us at the cookout. This video captures to a T how it went the first time I attended. I've now been to 7 or 8 of these and like this guy said, there is occasionally some scary shit that goes down. You just got to hold your own and do your best to work around the fact that you stick out like a sore thumb. Some of the coolest folks I've ever hung out with and damn right some of the best cooking I've ever had. I even donated my green egg smoker to the cause cuz they didn't have enough grill space. We can all come together if we just try. Racism is perpetuated by those too afraid to try and see the other side. Break bread, throw bones, toss cornhole, drink a beer, but avoid the spades table at all costs because, let's face it, shit gets real there sometimes.
Saw this in the comments and I experienced this as well. One of my best experiences in life was being the only white man invited by a black friend at work to go visit his church. Never felt more accepted and loved. It was a life changing and eye opening experience. Beautiful and real people.
I'm not so sure unconditional love is it in this case. His friends were getting back at him for putting them in "white people situations". Small details in the story really show that thought was put into his experience by his friends. Unconditional love and the lack of hate are two different things.

This man is right on, I’m white, when I was living down in GA a buddy invited me. Super fun, great folks. I tried so damn hard to remember everyone’s name. When asked id be sure to repeat it when talking to them to remember. Accidentally mixed up two people got roasted rofl. “ we black so we look alike huh?!” ~ I bet my face was redder then an freshly painted pick up truck. I kept falling asleep / out of it by the end, one of them let me crash with them ( wasn’t even my buddy lol. ) I was 18, in someone’s car nodding in. I’d wake up leaning on a big woman’s shoulder, after 3rd time I apologized, she grabbed my head and said “ you can sleep!” & I did lol. This was over 10 years ago. But when being invited. I’ve always pushed myself to meet new people. Go to new places. Best stories in life come from when you were feeling scared/embarrassed/stressed lol. In japan, I was the first white person to EVER be inside the home of this family out in the country side ~ well that’s a story for another day. Every group of people ( creed, color, culture, religion etc) has Good people And bad. More often then not just different. Most of us, just want our loved ones to be safe, healthy, happy. Care about each other. More often than not welcoming. I’m not religious, but I like the holidays especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. As it’s about inviting people from different places, share cultural ideas, food, eat & talk. People in the USA are so lucky. We have a great mixing pot of cultures here, unlike any other nation. And comparing nations with a lot of different groups. Crime rate is lower, Americans will protest & try to help people who are different. Racism ~ is born from ignorance, not meeting different people, personally. Yeah the bad is focused on most. But just look how things have changed since 1980s. How many people of all backgrounds protested for Rodney King. A white person, who grew up mainly around white people in a middle class family, won’t know what another person who looks different goes through. But more often then not, we as a nation tend to fight injustices. Risked our nation splitting because slavery was disgusting. Boycotting South Africa during the apartheid. Protesting Vietnam/Iraq. We’re all humans first! Good / bad, Then citizens of a nation. This story is important. He admitted to feeling uncomfortable lol. But he went! And had a blast. More often than not you can have the same experiences! Thanks for posting this Shaq! Especially now, when people are thinking being part of a group is more important than being good/bad. All cultures, and civilizations grow TOGETHER. People say “X was stolen”. But that’s not true in most cases. Just when humans see a better way, we change. For example, the birth of Abrahamic religions, made the world closer. Vikings/groups that focused on fighting / killing slowly passed. Humans bred to be territorial. Aggressive. Physically strong. For most of our existence. But it’s been in recent times, that intelligence, love, understanding & kindness is becoming more valued. Anyone interested in Japan but heard bad things. Go there & decide for yourself. There was a guy who went on a talent show. He used blackface & mimic’s Louie Armstrong. Using his mouth to make trumpet sounds. Years later he was told “ black face is bad. It would hurt others” he never did it again. He didn’t know. Trying to understand others. Looking at their hearts, before shouting racist/racism is important. We’re all brothers & sisters, that want our loved ones to be happy & safe. Even if someone does something obviously racist. They may not know it was/is racist. By asking them, not yelling not shaming, but listening and talking. You’ll change more hearts. Many knows what’s racist / what hurts others until they’re told. Sorry for the rant! Love for all. Happy holidays!

That’s a wonderful story you really should make a video about it I bet it would go viral
This made me cry
The media is purposely trying to cause tentions. I'm white as a ghost and live in the hood. Most my friends and family are black. I never see any kind of raceist bs from either side. We all get along great. I've been to plenty of black cookouts and they are awsome. You should definitely go of given the chance. Just make sure you are ready to eat.

Is that what a rant is? Always thought rant was when you vent and talk down on something. This was uplifting and educational. I'm from Sweden btw. My last name is Runsten (means runestone) and my forefathers were probably vikings. Glad we moved on from that lifestyle 😅
Great read
Real Rap bro.
You said that right.

With so much division between people.
This.

"I'm WHITE but I ain't trying to piss nobody off! I ain't stupid" The words of a true White Man in 2020! it don't matter what COLOR you are in 2020 we all are HUMAN BEINGS and WE all DESERVE to be LOVED AND LIVE LIFE!
We're all human and we're all equal. We all smile in the same language. :)

Read my comment Ben I didn't even see yours but guess we kind of have a good head on our shoulders. I just love everyone no matter who they are. Keep showing love bro
Just glad all caps was used so much. Wouldn’t have gotten the point without
If I may supply some black music from a white voice, Brother Ali put it this way in a rap:
"Something spiritual happen when them hands get to clappin
Can you tell me, what language do you laugh in?
The human reaction of smiles and cries
What language are the tears when they're fallin from your eyes?
You've probably seen the sunrise hundreds of times
But let a painter paint it or a poet describe
The very moment where heaven and Earth might collide
And God let the breath of life come outside
Uh, Satan doubted it, angels bowed to it
I'm so beautifully human and I'm proud of it"
“Salt shakers napkins and me” I CANT BREATHE
I already know this finna be a banger without even watching it

I'm late to this party, but just have to add that this man's friend got his cousins to set up that hot and near impossible spades hand while he was in his food coma! LOL! Got 'im! Zach is 6'3, 300lbs, size 15 feet (me, too!) and is a three times cancer survivor. What he does for cancer charities and people going through it shows the true heart of this good ol' country boy. Too damn funny. Love your reaction(s)!
Thanks for the inside scoop! This makes sense! Blessings to him!
We are not racist. We are united, but a small group of people are trying to divide us. Let’s don’t let them win. I’m an older white woman from the south. I really enjoy your reactions especially when you play SRV. You are able to convey what a genuinely nice person you are through your reactions. Keep up the good work.
My most memorable moment as a white man at my homeboys cookout. His 80 year old great auntie rolled the blunt and smoked with us. My mind was blown and not from the gas😂
We sat on the front porch with my 84 year old grandfather blazing.... Pops lived over North Minneapolis.
Those are memories that'll stay with us till we are in our 80's. That's what living is all about, those memories and experiences.
I was at a Jewish wedding of the nerdiest NYC Jews. I was stunned when the father of the groom handed me a huge blunt. Fun wedding.
That's sounds like a fun wedding. Pleasant surprises make a lasting impression.
Shit i wouldve been the same
This man passed out from eating 😂

Trust me black cooking will do that to you. Macaroni and cheese home made, fried chicken, turnip greens, jambalaya, dressing, and a cup a kook aid and it’s lights out

I love Zach and humor. I laughed so hard watching you reaction that you gave me sore in the ribs. LOL
I remember being a all black cookout with my friend and his family and then the serving lady thought I was some lil boy who wandered over there for some food😂 “uh uh I ain’t cookin fo nobody kids”
This is hilarious!😂
We definitely say stuff like that
You must have been up North. I am white and live in the South and I have been around Black people all my life. All the Black people I know would have been very kind to the little white boy and given him a plate of food and probably a hug.

Mexican and Black cookouts 👌
I was laughing so hard I cried. Then rubbed my eyes and apparently I had rubbed makeup or something in my eyes by doing that, cause it burned so bad!!! Went from laughing to screaming.. Stopped to fix my self.. and then saw shaqs reaction to " we play go fish and cornhole" let's say I was thankful I washed my hands cause I was dying laughing to the point of tears again!!! Lol thabks for this one shaq.
I loved this video and your reaction. I am a white 58 yr old grandmother-I have 5 children that are adults-and I have 6 grandchildren. I am so sad that we lost our traditions of all getting together after church-life has changed. There are alot of lonely people like myself who loves people of all colors-but my own flesh and blood breaks my heart-if only I could find good people that would love me back and consider me family-it would change my life forever. I'm tired of crying and feeling abandoned-this video is a blessing to know that there are still families that come together-mine never will-they are in their own world-could care less about the mother who birthed them, raised them, and it hurts me so bad. I am gld he got the experience he did-but what I heard were about a large family cookout-didnt matter to me they were not white- i just wish people would help others that on an emotional level feel a part of acceptance and love. I am very emotional...the video was funny-but then for me i couldn't stop crying over my own situation. love to all who read this

I've lived this before. Man. Same scenario, some of my best friends in high school were black guys. Teammates. 2 were in my wedding. This is on point. I felt all the same things at my first cookout. But had the best time. And still go back every year for a family reunion. I earned the honor of being a cousin. We need more of this these days!!!
Never seen Shaq laugh this hard. Seeing him so happy and laughing just makes me happy
Man I had tears rolling down my cheats from laughter. Just priceless at the reaction and realizations from all that there’s great people everywhere and to quit listening to the government trying to divide us.
Love it Shaq. You bring people together in a world of division.
He’s lucky they explained to him how to play spades. My family never really taught me, just expected me to know how to🤣
Eat a meal with a friend from a different background. It’s powerful!
Hell yeah. My black and white friends loved coming over to dance to Tejano music and eat spicy as hell food.
This is probably one of my favorite videos of all time 😂😂😂 I can’t stop laughing
Your laugh is super contagious! Love it!
In a world full of racism this is awesome and so true. I’m a white girl that’s been to an all black cook out several times and enjoyed every minute! I’ve also been to a black family reunion. Of course I stood out but I couldn’t have been more welcome.

Lots of races do different things depending on where there from. It’s good you experienced many cultures and people growing up!
@@yutanakamotobestie6531 Yeah, it was pretty awesome growing up with a good mix. Honest to god had no idea racism still even existed until I approached puberty. The racial tension in the west, particularly America, today, makes me so damn sad. It was so easy when we were kids...
sometimes the difference is in our head as were expecting something much different until we realize were all pretty friggin similar and should shut the news off!
