How do we translate these big concepts like self awareness to kids who maybe have never heard of that before?

A great way to introduce them to self-awareness is to give them two scenarios. One where they think confident thoughts like, "I've got this," and "I believe in myself." Then ask them how those thoughts would make them feel - happy, confident, upset, etc. Do the same thing with the second scenario, but have them think negative thoughts like, "I can't do this," or "I am terrible." This is a great way to begin getting them to understand the link between their thoughts and their feelings and how the two impact each other. Then you could take it a step further and ask them what type of behavior (so how they would play) would result from each of the two scenarios.

Hey there! Sorry for not getting back to you earlier! The best way to build mental toughness is to focus on building specific mental skills. Here's an article that goes into more detail on it: www.successstartswithin.com/blog/athlete-mental-toughness-training
