Miyahara sensei is a very kind person, he was my sensei before I moved out to wyoming. Everytime I'm out in california I go to practice with them, it is one of the things I miss so much about California. :-)

Keep elbows on do, this allows you to maintain center in kamae. Keep your left hand in your center in kamae, twist with right hand and forward to nullify opponent attacks.
To find your hand position, grip bottom of shinai with left pinky, drag your hand forward and then center into kamae position without lifting it. This creates a space in your palm that allows the shinai to move in upswing and down again.
Use your index finger to control the movement of your shinai, and this will add movement to your shinai tip as well as your wrists. Using your fingers will also increase the speed of the shinai swing. Coordinate your footwork with the speed of your shinai.
When cutting kote, don’t raise your shinai higher than necessary and instead find the least distance required to hit your target.
Keep your hands in front and forward from you, one fist above your shoulder. You can strike all targets from this position.

I started kendo at Pasadena Cultural Institute and began learning from Miyahara Sensei. I could immediately tell he was a great teacher, and wish I could have stayed to keep training there.

Very very interesting video. I take all informations :)
I like to practice with old Sensei when they come in France, and when I go to Japan. Not only because they are strong, but because they are so patient with foreigners trying to practice kendo !

@tenken1013 No, he’s actually the highest when all factors are considered. Meaning including time with rank/shogo.

True, but those who have practiced with him for a long time usually beg to differ.
