For a $45K CND EV for a family, I'd wait for a Chevrolet Equinox EV in the base 1LT trim coming later this year. It would be big enough for the kids & dog. Pricing not confirmed, but should be under $45K and then subtract EV subsidies.
Mazda has also told some outlets that it comes down to search engine optimization. Basically, the CX-90 is grouped as a three-row when it comes to online searches. By making the CX-70 a separate name plate, it gets included in searches for two-rows in a way that a trim of the CX-90 would not.

On another note… Just today, I went out to walk my dog (my neighbourhood) and ran into an older gentleman/neighbour/friend who just bought a 1992 Jaguar XJS in absolutely showroom condition (58,000 kms!). It was absolutely breathtaking, especially the leather and the wired rims. We chatted for about 45 minutes while sipping on coffee. What a character, what a brilliant motorcar! I continued my walk and came across another neighbour who just took out his F430 cabriolet in some captivating steel grey. And after yet another car chat…I continued my walk to walk my Cocker Spaniel for another half hour or so before returning. Incredible day. MORAL? I have a 2019 X5 xDrive40i with 80,000kms. I just had to use the extended warranty to get the transfer case replaced as it can be a problem with X5s. It was a $12k replacement so well worth the extended warranty cost. Your choice is to insure, self-insure (like Zack mentioned about putting money in a savings account), or just take the risk. It all depends on your comfort level.
Over here in the UK it’s only £900 per year for an extended warranty on a Macan. The chief engineer said the engines are bullet proof so did not take an extended warranty out. In year 4 my Macan’s sound system went wrong and ironically cost £900 to replace which Porsche contributed 1/3 of the costs as a gesture of good will. Apparently, the most common fault is the transmission tunnel which is under warranty for 7 years here. So would not bother taking out an extended warranty on the GTS. Best Clive
Look at long-term history of brand and model, this will tell you what will break and when, then decide on warranty! If your model breaks a lot at a certain mileage point, buy warranty or lease a new one now! Great show, the chemistry is always worth a view!
Regarding the first part about extended warranties. I usually buy them on my cars. My last car was a 2012 Kia Rio5. I paid $2200 for a 10 year warranty. In the last 2 years of ownership, I got about $7k worth of repairs covered with it. When I replaced with a 2021 Toyota Venza, I added the 10 year warranty for $2500, not because I expect a lot of issues, but for budget purposes. It's about $30 more per month on my payment, but now I'm covered for 10 years so it gives piece of mind.
@@jeffer1101 Most warranties cover alot of components, but say when an AC compressor fails and parts go into the accumulator which doesn't fail, usually the warrantty doesn't cover the accumulator . It's examples like this is why I don't buy extended car warranties. Usually i can fix it or find someone who works on that brand and like do the work at alot less money and is more upfront but the whole what has to be replace. Alot of good youtube video for mechanic who can offer advise to the problems. From knowledge from mechanic they don't get paid a full rate for warranty problem usaually only 60% of the going rate. Fellow mechanic have told me this , best to just pay to fix and if you don't like the vehicle after get a newer one.
Regarding the transmissions from Porche Macan... you MUST do a transmission oil service, all the differentials regularly (ask an VW/Audi/Porsche tech for it's interval and it doesn't matter what transmission manufacturer it is) and NOT believe the "lifetime" term - especially if you don't want to pay that extended warranty and want to keep it's drivetrain them from failing.

For the family of 4 with a dog looking for BEV/PHEV I would suggest to take a look at Tesla Model Y base trim. Depending on the province you can get a decent rebate and it can be pretty close to 45k (before the tax) price point. For example, in New Brunswick (Canada) it is 5k federal + 5k provincial discount after the tax which is about 8.7k discount before tax. Tesla Model Y RWD is 54k, so it price is ~45.3k after EV discounts. It is a really good deal for such a high tech, roomy and powerful vehicle. And delivery is really fast (there is no a year long queue). 19:07

VW here in Ontario used to be great and we were very loyal but over time they really messed up with the combination of diesel gate and atrocious service. Our new model car would come out of an oil change with oiled and scratched - driver side rocker panel, and dirty interior. Sales staff had become complacent and ignorant. The family of four with the dog could try the new 2025 Camry SE. They would just have to choose between going with the dog or the whole family without the dog. Or they could wait for Subaru hybrids. This day May 31st should have had a discussion about buying a vehicle on the last day of the month and the types of good deals you can cut.
Hi Guys !!, Talking about extended warranty, I had a bad experience with Nissan dealer, the vehicle Altima 2015, miles 28,000 and close to three years. My Son was out of town in school so for him not have problem, purchase the extended warranty but before I ask about the engine and transmission what happen if they fail so they said we put a new one and I repeat new one. I Knew about the CVT problems, Well did the purchase and peace of mine right. Then few months trans.. started not advance, take the vehicle in two days they installed the trans.., so I ask about the warranty, one year I said but new is normal 36,000 Miles, then they drop the bomb on me. Well is a rebuilt everything inside is new, Then driving it start the same problem. Then I got him a Passat 2015. 22,000 miles and today still driving it since 2018, NO CVT Transmission. Guys Like your content, Thank You and have a great day.
I bought a used Renault back in 1985 and bought an extended warranty. The warranty covered the mechanical systems, but the electrical systems constantly broke down. Finally I drove from the repair shop, across the street to a Chevy dealer, and traded it in on a new, cheap car, that was reliable.
Zack is right on the track how you "self insure" - but not the $5000, you put away $10,000 and let it sit in an investment doing its job. Interesting on my Elantra I asked if the iVT is repairable or swapped out - so servos and modules very commonly a remedy but they swap them out with factory done ones as they do have running changes - so went against my "rule" and added the 8 year complete one.
Only trouble with recommending Corolla Cross Hybrid is the year to 2 year wait to get one. My wife decided to get a gas model because who knows how many changes and price increases may occur while you wait for a hybrid.
We ordered a 2022 RAV4 Limited hybrid in November 2021. We were told it would arrive by the end of February 2022. After waiting over 18 months we took delivery of a 2023 Rav 4 Limited hybrid but not the one we had ordered. I won’t even go into the things that went on between the order being made and receiving someone else’s order because they had given up. At that time our vehicle hadn’t even reached the level of having a Toyota decide they were going to build it and 2 months after we took this one the dealership told us ours was going to be built. The same car we wanted but dark grey instead of the red we ordered. Love the vehicle but now I want the Grand Highlander!
If your buying a CJDR vehicle I would look at an owners forum to consider which vehicle has the most problems and would be best to buy a factory extended warranty. At one time FCA offered a Lifetime Maximum Warranty. I paid $3500 in 2014. Has covered thousands more in Chrysler repairs than what I paid for it.
The nice thing about the Outlander is all the cool tech is there for all of the trims, except the lane subtle drive pull back in thing and hud in the highest trim. I got the LE because it was in stock and I don't like the leather in the higher SE trim Outlander (LE has a suede type material). The SE just be in the budget depending on what province they are in.
I have bought extended warranty and never needed it, I will buy a GIC just in case my car does not needs a major repair and if NOT I’ve still got my GIC for my next purchase. I agree with Zack, why spend for just in case?
Here are a few takes on service contracts and assumes the vehicle is still covered by the OEM factory warranty. First. Prices are negotiable if you know how. Shop multiple dealers for the dealer's best quote! Don't be discouraged when the F&I Manager won't budge. Like the old Supertramp song goes, "Some they will and some they won't!" Second. Don't buy any third party service contract. Buy OEM or don't buy at all. Third. Determine your needs. Extending the time costs next to nothing but extending the mileage does. If you're going to be a long time owner but a low annual mileage driver, ask about a corresponding service contract. Fourth. Don't wait until after the original OEM factory warranty has expired. The cost for the service contract will jump a great deal or may not be available at all.
I just bought a CX70 Premium Plus. I honestly don't care if it's the same as a CX90, without the 3rd row. I have absolutely no need for a 3rd row and wouldn't buy an SUV with a 3rd row. Mazda, built the CX70 for people like us. We don't have kids and honestly rarely have back seat passengers. So the CX70 is a great SUV for us. Naming convention is irrelevant.
I would buy an ID buzz in a second if it was a hybrid or gas model. I was initially excited by the "buzz" for this model, until I found out it was electric. What a buzz kill!
I didn’t know that Porsche uses Toyota transmissions in their vehicles until now. Like you said, just save money in an emergency fund for future repairs.
I wonder if the plug in hybrids if you would need to actually get them out driving on the highway other wise the gas may go bad after 6 months in the city. What do you think
I wonder if it’s possible to get a top spec CX70 and retrofit the 3rd row parts from a wrecked CX90 on a budget so that I can get the fully loaded 7 passenger CX90 I always wanted before I found out it only comes with captains chairs in the middle row with lots of excuses from Mazda as to why it’s like that 😖
I think the CX-70 allowed Maaazda or Maahhzda to get two launch events out of one car. Just like having different pronunciations for their name in Canada vs. the U.S. allows them more time having their name talked about by certain Canadian car reviewers. Andrea's note on the seats is a good one though...if you have a second row captain's chairs, you end up with an awfully big 4 seater when you put the third row seats down.
Typical CPO warranties only cover limited powertrain components. That's why it's CPO to give used car buyers a little extra insurance with the powertrain, it certainly doesn't cover anything electronic.
I told the dealer at their VIP launch last year that the CX-90 was a disappointment in person as it had everything on paper with size, looks and engine setup etc. Once I sat in the 3rd row and saw the trim packaging, I knew it could not work for my family. I told them best you give CA options. They dropped the ball as it could have been more than what we have today. The CX-70? Smh 😂
Can't wait until I get my new top trim CX-90. I have to finance almost the entire price but it's worth it as I plan to keep it a long long time almost 4 years.
Can you give an update on what Mitsubishi is doing to fix the cold weather issue with the Outlander PHEV? I wouldn’t buy one if it stops working during cold snaps.
Mitsubishi did a software update to help with the problem but it won't eliminate it. A viewer reached out to me and said he got it done but it has warmed up now so he will have to wait until next winter to see if it makes a difference. What he did notice right away is that the gas engine came on less often which is a good thing.
Just remember this basic fact... Extended warranties on average make money for the seller and are therefore a loss for the buyer of the warranty. I would only consider an extended warranty if you drive way over the average miles/year (say 20,000 miles/year, and make sure that the warranty covers that high mileage) and you know for certain you'll own the car for the period of the warranty. On average, over time, you'll lose money on extended warranties.
Andrea! You NEED to go to PEI in the spring! You will love it!!!! And the 🦞…omg, it’s amazing just to think about it! Plan for that before Australia…easier to get to and so very Canadian!
Equinox EV for the 45k commenter? It's starting low as well, $41,900 (1LT) in US before credits. $43,295 & $45,295 are 2LT & 3LT respectively. 319 mile EPA estimated range with FWD model.
I disagree with your outlook on extended warranties. I absolutely understand the question of purchasing one or not. However I would avoid aftermarket warranties unless you know they will use genuine Porsche parts. You also speak to another issue with them but provide little clarification. You mention a head unit not being covered by a warranty. This would be true or an aftermarket warranty.
$5k?? I have been renewing my Macan warranty from Porche for $3.5k plus HST for two years. Car is 2015 S model and Porche will continue to allow renewal every two years till 2030.
CX-70 about 190" 195" long with two rows seating would be at the top of my list. Similar to Jeep GC and even the GV80. NO WAY would I buy a three row and fold down the third row, leaving an open space to the captain chairs. Looks like hell and luggage moving everywhere. I most likely will pass on Mazda as really had thought the new CX70 would be for me. Just too long and not even sportback styling. Oh well moving on to Genesis and Audi!
We were looking for a new vehicle as our 2012 Equinox is starting to need a lot of repairs (ball joints, struts, control arms etc) so we decided to treat ourselves to our very first brand new car. we have been looking high and low and under every rock for a hybrid ha ha good luck we are needing something soon as we don't want to put a whole lot of money in a 2012 so we finally found a 24 Acadia Denali full loaded with a real auto trans and that's we are getting since we didn't want to wait 1-2 years for a hybrid
I wouldn’t buy a 7 year old Hybrid Highlander. Three years left on the battery warranty. I bought a 2024 Highlander Limited gas turbo. That’s one reason. The other, my gas turbo blows away my traded Venza hybrid for driving enjoyment. Hybrids are not made for active drivers. You save gas but as a friend once told me, “You pay for the ride. “ Finally, as a low mileage driver, buying gas at Costco for $ 3.00 per gallon, and with a $ 3700 discount on my gas turbo, it would take me 18 years to break even on gas savings. Don’t become a victim of false savings.
Mazda shuffled their line up to the point that is making you scratching your head. Their top trim would be the Signature however I have not seen a PHEV in this trim , only in MHEV. Even if you go to their configurator the PHEV goes only as far as the GT There is no Signature on either 90 or 70.
Why are auto executives so tone deaf and not smart about what their customers wants...I mean the make like $30MILLION DOLLARS in COMP! ...every 4 months....Andrea makes a lot less and has them dead to rights!

My favorite couple ❤️❤️❤️
Awe thanks!
like fine wine you guys just improve. keep it up !!! am here for every post.
Thank you very much!
I can hear them say "Here comes inspector Columbo"
If your buying a CJDR vehicle I would look at an owners forum to consider which vehicle has the most problems and would be best to buy a factory extended warranty. At one time FCA offered a Lifetime Maximum Warranty. I paid $3500 in 2014. Has covered thousands more in Chrysler repairs than what I paid for it.
Hi Andrea, If you do get to Australia, the locals pronounce it Melburn, accent on the first syllable...love your videos!
Thanks for the tip!
Im a Mazda fan, but the CX-70 is a joke! Awesome show! ❤ from Québec 😊
Quanta’s is the way to go to Australia. Visit Byron Bay, NSW. Beautiful beaches.
Thanks for the suggestions!
When I start my own car manufacturing company in Jamaica 🇯🇲 I'll hire you both for ideas 💡 Andrea is very inspiring
Andrea has a certain charm! 😄
i got a screen i hate it it makes me scream i like buttons
I didn’t know that Porsche uses Toyota transmissions in their vehicles until now. Like you said, just save money in an emergency fund for future repairs.
The Porsche Cayenne not all Porsches
I wonder if the plug in hybrids if you would need to actually get them out driving on the highway other wise the gas may go bad after 6 months in the city. What do you think
The Cx70 is a bit of a smoke screen. We need the CX60 Please!
The CX-70? Smh 😂
The bigger issue is the cx70 should have been the rdx and gv70 competition . Cx50 is sub par and the 70 is missing an entire segment.
All manufacturers should do what Toyota does. Bring in hybrid and plug in hybrid. Otherwise Toyota gets the market share. Toyota is the leader.
45k EV SUV... Equinox coming out. Compact size so should be good for your needs and price point works.
BEV Equinox for the family seeking a $45K BEV?
Can't wait until I get my new top trim CX-90. I have to finance almost the entire price but it's worth it as I plan to keep it a long long time almost 4 years.
Would love to see acura build a rdx plug in hybrid
Can you give an update on what Mitsubishi is doing to fix the cold weather issue with the Outlander PHEV? I wouldn’t buy one if it stops working during cold snaps.
Mitsubishi did a software update to help with the problem but it won't eliminate it. A viewer reached out to me and said he got it done but it has warmed up now so he will have to wait until next winter to see if it makes a difference. What he did notice right away is that the gas engine came on less often which is a good thing.
Better yet, mazda should just have given us the cx60. Done!
Would love to go!
@@andreaspencer9813 Maybe you'll get there in time to witness the harvest of PEI's main crop - mildew! If you think Vancouver is moist ....
Equinox EV for the 45k commenter? It's starting low as well, $41,900 (1LT) in US before credits. $43,295 & $45,295 are 2LT & 3LT respectively.
319 mile EPA estimated range with FWD model.
❤
Great show Andrea! 👍🏻👍🏻☕️☕️
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
@@andreaspencer9813 I always enjoy watching you guys talks about a lots of interesting things. 👍🏻👍🏻☕️☕️
@@10OF9OFBORG I am happy to hear that, it's a favourite segment of ours too.
Mazda should just PAY you to consult at the DESIGN STAGE.
What about these Tundra recalls 96500 vehicles motors blowing up .Extended Warrantys????????
We live in a condo. In the US, a large percentage of the population live in condos or apartments. Plug ins won’t work. What are they thinking?
To be fair, Mazda should have made the CX-70 just marginally bigger than the CX-60.
"I was thinking of a small SUV for my wife..." My advice "Sounds like a good trade to me!"
13:29 the cone, why?
What's wrong with having a 4 seater?
Mazda should have used the CX80 they just released in Europe as the complement to the CX90.
$5k?? I have been renewing my Macan warranty from Porche for $3.5k plus HST for two years. Car is 2015 S model and Porche will continue to allow renewal every two years till 2030.
Corporate Group THINK is scary.... I remember CKLW !!!
Does the Acadia have that new 2.5liter, sister to the 2.7 lter engine then your good.
@@russellvoth5161 Yes it does
I wouldn’t buy a 7 year old Hybrid Highlander.
There are Toyota hybrids used as cabs with over a million miles on them, your friend is wrong.
Spot on
Mazda shuffled their line up to the point that is making you scratching your head. Their top trim would be the Signature however I have not seen a PHEV in this trim , only in MHEV. Even if you go to their configurator the PHEV goes only as far as the GT There is no Signature on either 90 or 70.
Should post on other media.
You buy a cx90… rent a cx70.. and swap the rear seats out .. maybe they won’t notice
Mazda / Mauzda
Yes. Mazda is just being ridiculously stupid about CX70 and the lack of bench seat on top trim CX90.
Why keep pushing hyundai and Kia crap.
👍🏻
I love my Toy hybrid.............I listened to Zack I am now looking for a women named Andrea
Anything but Instagram.
We get gypped in Canada?
'gypped' is a racist term.
If you want a EV just buy a Tesla.
Why are auto executives so tone deaf and not smart about what their customers wants...I mean the make like $30MILLION DOLLARS in COMP! ...every 4 months....Andrea makes a lot less and has them dead to rights!
Definitely chuckled over your comments "the type R doesn't even have heated seats..." :)
Andrea is the "Columbo" of car reviewers because she always says, "One more thing!". 🤭

Mazda top management live in a bubble. A deep valley in Nagasaki, protected from nuclears. When Mazda changes something to satisfy customers, I'm always shocked and delighted. A RARE TREAT😢😢😢😢
Some cars are perfect for lease only. The long-term ownership costs are outrageous for some vehicles.
