Ryne This was using an effect called “bit reduction”, and it’s a digital effect. This wasn’t produced by analog means, as it needs to be a digital signal for this to work. It reduces the resolution (bit depth) and sample rate substantially so that there is more noise and the high frequencies are aliased. That’s what you’re hearing. Digital synthesis can create some great sounds!

The best version of this song other than the original and, in some ways, even better than that one. Wish they’d officially release this whole performance at some point.
