Evocative of last century UK (London). Took me straight back and reminded me how much of a soundtrack to my life it was. A pre-Thatcherite time when you'd go to a "Blues" and have your brain punctured by a home-made tweeter, and the bass bin blew last years steak loose in your colon. Where the Carnival was beard-oil and Birkenstock free, Saxon Hi-Power blasted from under the bridge, all were blowing on a hot pattie that won't cool fast enough and all you could smell was sta-sof-fro hair-curl activator. I thank you for my happy tears.
😮 Small world. Dinner at walt's. Hah that hits hard. I moved to siesta from the east coast and never looked back. The vibe here has changed a lot recently but. It still has that Caribbean island feel. Cheers!❤
This is calming me down so much. I saw something that upset me that reminded me of something from my childhood, so I'm listening to music to calm me down.
Great mix! I was lucky to get to see Yellownam and Sister Nancy live back in th mid eighties when I was in college in Boston. My friend Don was Yellowman's Bass player for a while. good times!
Incredible selection, I miss hearing music that jumps out of the speakers, triggering vitality, creativity, and happiness. I was fortunate to have a local radio station with a tuned in dj (Mr. Clint O’Neil), but those days are in the past. Thank you and I’ll check out the others.
I went to college in Boston in the late 80s. I'd go buy vinyl in Mattapan and in NYC I'd go to Utica Ave - then I'd send boxes of vinyl back to my brother in Portland, Oregon. He has a MASSIVE collection.
@@soundguy_bill I forgot the name of that site people sell vinyl through - but yeah he's got crates. 33 and 45. I bought a ton of Studio One - anyting I could find. Then a bunch of the wild stuff with wild album covers. Yes sir, right now I use a rotel rc-1000 Pre amp. But if you’re talking about the piece of equipment I’m using to add effects and launch samples, that’s the Novation Zero SL MkII midi controller. I got my output mixer output going into a sound card which inputs into ableton. This way I can also use the midi controller to add analog FX emulators and launch samples.
Do you find the rotary controls over the faders give you more precise control over faders? I’ve seen seen certain house djs use them for their mixes. Less quick cuts and more smooth blends, eh?
Yeah so basically, the rotary controls give really nice fade in and fade out control, very smooth volume modulation. Better for selecting like this as opposed to mixing and beat matching. For music that requires beat matching then faders are better
Strong selection, easygoing mix, classic setup (btw what brand/model of mixer is it?). Everything I need right now. Thank you Bill. Greetings from Poland!
Btw I’ve been always deep in ”roots dub” but not that familiar with early 80s and ”digital dub” (digging stuff from the early ska to late 70s and mainly ”analog” stuff and some random 80s stuff) I mean when digi gear started to appear on the scene. Yes it went to dancehall way mainly but there must have been solid dub scene still thru 1980-1990? Any good ways to point a fellow dubman?
@@soundguy_bill no singular sound, just kind of timeline how dub evolved from late 70s to like early 90s? Or was there dub in the dub sense back then or did it take dancehall etc styles? Where in the world did the dub DUB go? Soundguy bill do you know do you know?
been waiting for 45 years to hear that "Yellowman yellow, he yellow like cheese" line... now I just need "Girl, your body look good, but your face it not ready" to fill the other missing piece...
Great mix & selection. Can you please tell me what is the name of the mix table on the upper side (on the right, the one that makes the effects and gots samples)? Thanks for your answer
Yeah man, big ups thanks for watching. Yeah it’s a novation zero SL MK11. It’s an old piece tho harder to find, just a midi controller really, good controls on it tho
