  • Here is our short video on how to maintain your puppy or adult coat in between grooming appointments. This should be done WEEKLY. Puppy Lagotto should be groomed at 16 and 20 weeks or so with their puppy shave down/puppy cuts. Then every 3 weeks they should have a bath and touch up either at home or at the groomer. Then every 6th week they should have a full groom. So the schedule includes having something done every 3 weeks.

How often do you comb them? Do you also comb them whenever they get wet, play, etc?

Thank you for your nice video. Why don’t you pluck the ear of te lagotto? Ours used to have ear infections because of all the hair curling back into her ears.

We don't pluck or pull hair as many of the top groomer and veterinary resources are showing that plucking/pulling changes the pH of the ear canal due to histamines from the inflammation. This sets up the whole antibiotic/steroid cycle. We DO trim the ear hair so as to avoid the wild woolies with the hair curling back.

Thanks for the run through. It would be helpful if you can demonstrate the cutting/trimming of nails next time.

There are so many other RUclips videos that demonstrate this, I was planning more Lagotto pertinent content. Didn't want to reinvent the wheel. But we can sure oblige!!!

I've seen different things on the web....should they get shaved at 4 months and then trimmed every 2-3 months?....and then keep up with it in between, like you show in the video?.thanks so much!

We rotate for life the following (after 2-3 puppy shave downs excluding the head which is just a typical trim): after the last puppy shave down, at 4 weeks we do a Sani trim bath/blowout. Then 4 week after that we do a full groom. This rotation keeps the coat the best conditioned.

Thanks for this demo of between grooms. (My lagotto gets a tidy/trim every 8 weeks). She sports the rustic look! This was good to see a relaxed and a happy dog. I have the equipment you use ... and will follow your method.
