Counterpoint: Hospitals and medical professionals are not allowed to turn someone away from medical treatment. What's to stop someone from going to a different medical facility? It's not like they can check if you have debt somewhere else. Even if they did start making people pay up front, that may actually be a good move for those who don't want Medicare for All. It's going to discourage those who can't front the bill from going to the doctor, thus freeing up waiting rooms that are overcrowded as it is. Maybe it makes insurance companies more selective on who they let subscribe to their services? Or remove coverage of certain services altogether? I would bet that hospitals would figure out a way to put cards on file and garnish your wages if things played out the way you think they will. Just my two cents, but I do think this bill was done with a scorched Earth mentality, for sure. For someone on the "health care is a human right" side of things, this definitely increases that gap between those who can and can't pay.
