Ridley being one of the few competent villains in the Something About series that actually managed to put up a really good fight and last a while against the speedrunner protagonist makes me proud to be a Ridley main in Smash.
What makes this animation so good is that both characters trade blows, evade each other, block, and outsmart each other. A good, physical fight in storytelling must have these qualities, and that's what I think happened here! Definitely one of my favorite moments from one of my favorite videos you've done. :)
Before he made this video I genuinely didn't know that the reason Ridley was red in this fight was because of the lava. I legit thought he metamorphized or something. It's actually a really cool visual.
@@kingbash6466 0:42 If you slow down the video here, Ridley does turn back to purple when at the top of the room so Quinn is correct on that issue. Not to say that your first sentence is wrong, just an observation I saw.
Ridley actually turns more red the more damage he takes. If you're trying to beat Ridley in the Space Colony at the start of the game, you'll notice that he drops the baby right after he starts turning red.
This is the coolest moment in any speedrun video, bar none. Ridley being a badass is portrayed so perfectly here, going toe to toe with a speedrunner iteration character and handling it very well. And of course the music.
Didn't notice this before but when Samus jets up through the cloud of pick ups she actually picks up the ones she collides with. Nice attention to detail.
0:18 Meta Knight, buddy. What are you doing here? You know sometimes I feel like Terminal makes awesome fight scenes for his videos just so he can also share his music choices. Brinstar Eurobeats is something I'd never know I'd love until this fight happened.
This is my favorite scene in any _Something About_ video. It’s energetic, the music slaps, and it somehow manages to be just as badass as it is hilarious. It’s less than a minute long and it makes me go through countless emotions every time I watch it.
I really appreciate how the color palette changes from purple to red on Ridley as he gets closer to the lava. Just on of those extra little things that Terminal added to make it that much better
Funfact: The most effective Projectiles in Super Metroid are the combination of Ice Beam, Wave Beam and Plasma Beam, while having all three attitudes combined (freezing and shooting through terrain and enemies) it can basically do as much damage as a super missile, so it would be smart to use the Beam against Ridley after your super missiles ran out
I think this is a perfect example of your incredible diversity of animation skills. You can do some /amazing/ fight scenes like this, while also seamlessly switching back and forth between clever little jokes - the fight scene being sandwiched between the visual gags of other games being referenced in the scenery, and Samus's victory dance. Point is: go you, TM. I'm sure it's been a long 'bout of practice to get this good at what you do!
For the most part this animation was accurate to real speedruns, but the Ridley fight was the exception as normally speedruns fight him as the second boss while in this video he was the final battle before Mother Brain just like he normally is when you play the game without crazy speedrun-level sequence breaks. I love that you changed it to him being last, because it really gives his character and rivalry with Samus the respect and emphasis it deserves. This was an awesome animation.
I have to say, I always did appreciate how Ridley actually got a dedicated fight against Samus in this, mad respect to the Cunning God of Death (even if he was still defeated in the end).
Never noticed this until now, but when Samus shinesparks upwards at the end of the scene, she actually collects some of the energy and missiles that Ridley dropped. It's the attention to details like these that make this series so good. I also failed to notice Meta Knight floating around until now...
If something in the Something About series lives for more than three seconds of a fight, it’s probably a major threat. The only exception I can think of is that djinn I forget the name of in Yoshi’s Story, and that guy only lasted for that long because Boshi had to wait for his ATB meter to fill.
Can we talk about the shift in Ridley's color palette while doing the ground slam with Samus clutched in his feet-claws? Such an amazing detail. Also if you pause the video at exactly 0:45...is that Cackletta from Superstar Saga INSIDE Ridley? What the hell is that? Its face looks like Cackletta
So the thing is with a lot of bosses who tend to appear in the Something Series is that in speedruns that the game in a given video is about, usually almost all of the bosses tend to have a form of Cheese Strategy to take them out as quickly and efficiently in such a way it renders them a complete joke. Ridley in Super Metroid is notorious for the fact he does *not* have a Cheese Strategy of any kind, causing many speedrunners to actually play the game normally when fighting Ridley due to the fact there's no exploit known to work against Ridley for a Cheese Strat, so the only way to defeat him is literally playing the game as intended upon entering his boss arena until he drops dead.
First time I played super metroid Ridley was for me the hardest boss in the game, it took me like 20 attempts and when I won I had barely any health left. Also, the screw attack jump didn't protect you if you touched Ridley's tail, which added more difficulty, and I kept falling into the acid and losing energy stupidly. Sick boss battle, I will always remember it with nostalgia.
Hombre de cultura 🧐🍷 Pd: pensé que era el único que pensaba eso Ridley fue el único de sus compañeros que dió una buena pelea con Samus además de durar más de 3 segundos en pie xD
It's a shame that the single mistake here cost Samus her world record. Up to this point it was a near TAS level run but she dropped the run with that miss.
Ridley is the only one of these enemies that actually put up a fight here.
Makes sense; he fought this girl for four games now, and almost got the W on the fifth fight.
Not just here, out of almost every video, this is the only genuine battle
@@legogonkdroid3630 Mario and Sonic
Don’t forget the other Something Versus fights
As he should
We can all agree here, Ridley is just a sick boss here with the music and the quality of the animation. Incredible

Ridley being one of the few competent villains in the Something About series that actually managed to put up a really good fight and last a while against the speedrunner protagonist makes me proud to be a Ridley main in Smash.
Smash Ridley do be kinda good tho.
Unlike the tier lists he's in.
It fits his character
He IS the Cunning God of Death, after all
Far more intelligent than some of the other villains
Arise, Space Pirates!
Fellow Riddy main
Riddy dropping the Griddy
I like how this fight played up relatively seriously compared to most of the other villain fights in the Something About series.
Very fitting that someone as painfully stubborn as Ridley wouldn't outright die immediately

Most bosses in Super Metroid end up turning more red the more damage they take. I think Terminal just took some creative liberties on that one.
@@kingbash6466 0:42 If you slow down the video here, Ridley does turn back to purple when at the top of the room so Quinn is correct on that issue.

Props to Ridley for actually landing a hit on one of the speedrunners.
8 hits to be exact :p
And dodging one too
Samus doing the default at the end was the ultimate disrespect to Ridley.
If there is a body left, a Teabag must be done
I'm just impressed she managed to go straight into a shinespark from the dance alone. That's true speedrunning prowess there.
I mean he killed her parents gotta disrespect him
Fun fact: There's no speedrunning the Ridley fight- you have to pump him full of missiles the old fashioned way.
Just shoot VAR beam at him, it gets stuck at hit tail and fucking obliterates him
Literally in this case.
Or... you could just...
_goes under the lava and unloads a full canister of power bombs_
I HAVE RESERVE TANKS I DON'T CARE
This is the coolest moment in any speedrun video, bar none. Ridley being a badass is portrayed so perfectly here, going toe to toe with a speedrunner iteration character and handling it very well. And of course the music.
What is the Music name?
even in a parody video, Samus and Ridley need to have a good fight scene
But they don't need a good fight in the actual official game of Zero Mission for some reason.
Didn't notice this before but when Samus jets up through the cloud of pick ups she actually picks up the ones she collides with. Nice attention to detail.
0:18 Meta Knight, buddy. What are you doing here?

He pretty much does do that. You should check out the Something about Mega Man X and the X vs. Storm Eagle rematch videos. It's an awesome time.
@@goldenninja9053 Oh I've *seen* that.
The interpretation that he gets redder because he's closer to the lava instead of taking more damage was an interesting take.
We go from an epic scene boss fight to *default dance*
The Fortnite Dance

I love Ridley’s static pose when he flys around at 0:29
He's not flying around, he's actually using his tail as a pogo which is an attack he's known for in metroid.

The animation in this sequence goes so hard man. Like all comedy aside you popped off
This was a cool Animation, very fluid and action packed.
It frustrates me samus didn’t pick up all those gem points
I really like the fact that the lighting makes ridley look red like in the super metroid box art
For the most part this animation was accurate to real speedruns, but the Ridley fight was the exception as normally speedruns fight him as the second boss while in this video he was the final battle before Mother Brain just like he normally is when you play the game without crazy speedrun-level sequence breaks. Ridley was given the respect he deserved here
Legit one of the best fight scenes you’ve ever done, on par with Something Versus - Wahoo vs. Chili Dogs
I very much love how there was an Anguirus roar since I’m a huge Godzilla fan!
It's Ridley's actual scream in Super Metroid!
The dance at the end freaking kills me.
"RIDLEY!"
"He's just some boss enemy, NOT EVEN special!"
-DaThings, 2014
I like that you had his different colors be due to the lighting rather than the defs just wanting him to be different colours each game.
I love the something series for its absurdity but "serious" fight scenes are always a delight

that last monster at the end were like "yeah maybe i gotta skip dinner"
Literally beat Super Metroid (and Ridley) for the first time last night XD
You know TM is good when you end up using one of the vids as a walkthrough
I still love how the items in her path get picked up on the way out.
Love Ridley's color gradient as he's bouncing up and down
Man the music and sound design are really underrated imo. The little road an cry for Ridley, the 9-bit Fortnite jingle. Good stuff
One of the coolest 1v1 fights in the Something series
0:45 YOO IT'S MY BOY CACKLETTA

Meta Knight: How do you do fellow Holtz.
I feel like this was the longest boss fight in any Terminal Montage video up to that point.

I loved how Samus danced.
0:49 my favourite part of the entire video
coolest moment in my eyes is just 0:35, the rapid fire blasts and dodging just hit right, still One of my favorite moments that he's done so far
Anguirus’s roar really works with Ridley for some reason
0:45 - Whoa! Is that Cackletta's Soul I see?!

The part that made me lose it in the original video was when Samus pulled up her arm cannon to reveal a large, buff arm as Ridley nopes out of there!
they way he just,, burst at the end,, marvellous
And You gotta love the Fortnite dance at the end. Good job TerminalMontage!
This was the most intense thing I've seen on this channel
Eurobeat Ridley; what else could we ask for?
This was my absolute favorite part of the original vid
What’s fitting is as of right now there’s no known way to skip or cheese the Ridley fight meaning speed runners just need to fight him normally
I'd not have it any other way. Cheese the others, but Ridley deserves a good fight.
And that's where the rest of the budget went.
i love the anguirus roar sound effect 0:22
“IT’S THE ANGWEENUS SIR!!”
I still think the alternate endings are fricking cool
