Keeping it. It's not going back into service. At least not while I have it. The horn cracks are the most daunting problem with it. Every bar in the horn has a cracked weld. One of the top bar welds is completely broken all the way around through the horn sheet metal. There is also a big horizontal crack down the middle of the side that can be seen while it rotates. It's the rusty line on the side of the horn. I think if the welds are rewelded it will distort the horn from the heat so I haven't really tried anything with it yet. Hell. I might just leave it as is.
Well, it's better to leave it as it is rather than breaking it anymore. Definitely a cool bolt you got, and it's really cool seeing that old chopper motor roaring to life after all the years it say in the air.
Sure. Go to my site main page at civildefensemuseum.com and you will find my email at the bottom of the main page. Email me and I'll answer your Thunderbolt questions as best I can.
I don't know why I'm just now getting around to subbing to your page, my apologies. I've been a fan of your webpage, "The Civil Defense Museum" for over ten years (I think). If you ever find a can of civil defense hard candies, you should do a taste test and then send me a small baggie of them! LOL! I've had some once before at a surplus store I used to visit a lot. They were actually really good!
Nice! I liked the part when it maxed out the mic.
Those jail bar thunderbolts are really rare. Take good care of it
Sounds like an ASC e-class
Look on the rotation box. There's a sad face :(
Good one!
looking back on this a year later with glasses i barely saw it, lol.
I SEE XD
Cus many are getting replaced
WOW A JAILBAR!!! RARE!!!
RadonAway Mitigation damn right! Holy shit!
I have a 1000 and it's complete with the exception of the bell/horn part. Any idea where I could find one ?
A Siren Graveyard.
For this Thunderbolt 1000 and 1003 in the garage, I wonder if they would sound better on 4/5 port dual tone choppers with powerful vacuum blowers.
Really cool Eric! What are you planning on doing with it?

vanamonde2 why were you gone so long
vanamonde2 Yikes! Poor siren! At least it is now in safe hands
So what are the plans for this siren? Keeping it or eventually relocating it?
See comment below....
there isnt one.
you have all those thunderbolts. you are so lucky
Half of them are gone. Back in service in Georgia
@@vanamonde2 oh. maybe because your other sirens you may have not used anymore or something but not to get ya mad
Do you have the blower? I would kill to see it and maybe run. Considering the fact that the 6Ms were substantially quieter than the other models!
Its Sounds Like The 8RPM Thunderbolt IN Amarillo Texas/Was Replaced By a 508
Do you mind helping out with my Thunderbolt? I talked to you by email but I don't know if it sent the rest.
