    To be honest it looks pretty decent but for £11.99 my local kebab shop knocks these kind of boxes up and for the sake of an extra £1.99 you get a nice already hot meal served in a pizza box with chips & naan without having to cook yourself i know what one i would choose but thanks for the video :)

    Okay I'm going a bit of track here. The other day I said I was having a Vindaloo curry. But I was making it myself. From Lidl I bought a Vindaloo sauce mix, some broccoli and cauliflower florets, a red bell pepper and onions plus a small tin of sliced carrots. They didn't have any beef cubes, so I went all in and bought 2 medallion steaks. I marinated the meat for a few hours in the sauce. Then I cut them into strips. I put them in my slow cooker overnight on low. I steamed the broccoli and cauliflower and added the carrots etc.
    I got 3 meals out of it. So I spent less than a fiver.
    I admit the curry wasn't as hot as I would have liked, maybe I should have added some hot chillies from my cupboard.
    The thing is that was tasty, no chemicals and no fat floating on top. So I guess it was healthy.
    But getting back to this review?
    To buy every item would have cost an arm and a leg. Buying it from a take-away? Even more.
    So I think this review hit the spot and was worth the ten quid price tag for two people.

    I was recently back in the UK on a visit. Went to the butchers as I was missing home comforts. 2 rings of their home made black pudding, 10 slices of thick cut bacon, fresh made 10 tomato sausages, six duck eggs and a steak and kidney pie. Just over £18. £10 for that is an outrage.

    • @NikkisNosh
      @NikkisNosh Месяц назад +4

      It is called Food Inflation and both governments have done little to regulate it, leaving it to the "free market". It is good you went to a proper butchers' and to be honest that is a reasonable price. The major cause of food inflation is the B word since to ship food to the UK (which imports 66% of all food to feed the population) has risen sharply since we left the Free Market.
      Out of interest, where do you live these days and what would those items cost wherever it is you live? A comparison of costs would be interesting.

    • @MelissasArt
      @MelissasArt Месяц назад +3

      @NikkisNosh Hiya. I live in Portugal now. Food here is definitely cheaper than the UK, but it is a poorer country. With a per capita income just over half of that of the UK.
      To be honest, the diet here has worked wonders for my health. But I just had to have some home comforts when I was over visiting. That butchers shop has been around since I was young and is just a 5 minute drive from my Mams. So I went and bought all sorts. Was expecting it to be so much more cost wise as often watch Garath and others do food reviews.
      £10 for this Vs. £18 for what I got fresh just shows how what would have been something cheap is now very expensive. As you say, food inflation.

    • @NikkisNosh
      @NikkisNosh Месяц назад +2

      @@MelissasArt Thanks for your reply, Melissa. Indeed Portugal is going to be a brilliant place for food and food quality not least because it gets the full benefit of the Gulf Stream so a much longer growing season for veg and silage for the animals too.
      It also and a long tradition of smaller, family run artisanal food trades as opposed to being run by massive food conglomerates.
      I seem to recall that the concept of ready meals in Southern European countries is anathema? People prefer to cook from fresh ingredients a lot more?
      I am very envious of you living on the Iberian peninsula - and you have my favourite glug too in abundance - Port.

    • @MelissasArt
      @MelissasArt Месяц назад +3

      @NikkisNosh Oh I love a good glass of port with desert. Always goes down a treat. I have been here almost 13 years now. Time really does fly.
      Yes ready meals are not really a thing here. But processed food does exist. You can get packaged food such as pizzas, pasta, crisps etc etc. But stuff like this or other walk it in the microwave stuff is definitely much rarer.
      I'm a huge fan of seafood so I'm pretty much in heaven here. There is an awful lot of it in the diet. The one thing I really like about here is the eating out culture. It doesn't break the bank. There are a lot of family run restaurants around where I am. You're very welcome for the reply. Its nice to share stories and what not on here. 🙂

    With pita and salad, that would feed 4 and for a lot less than a take away! The mechanically sorted chicken would've been what you said looked like leg meat. The main slices of chicken kebab meat are from 'stacked' chicken breasts. (I've seen them being made at my local Turkish shop) For two types of meat, a huge salad, tabouleh and hummus, a single serve feeds two and we pay a similar amount to what you paid for all that meat. (I am in New Zealand and a single meal is around $19NZ, with NO pita or bread of any sort) I might be among the few who thinks that meal wasn't such bad value, especially if used as I said at the start - to feed 4, with the required additions. I don't know what a simple red cabbage, lettuce, red onion and carrot mix would cost, but it does make a difference!

    Just about 2lb of food for £10 but the "waste" would probably be substantial, I think id head to either Heron Foods or Farm Foods for the same and probably cheaper or more weighty Gaz

    According to Wikipedia an alternative name for mechanically separated chicken is white slime. Wonder why they don’t print that on the box ?🤪

    I think if I got that for myself first I'd remove the 2 dips and pop them in the fridge to defrost instead. As everything is vacuum packed I'd then (if it was just me) just cook 1 of the 25 minute meats and keep the other for the next day along with a couple of the 15 minute meats. 2 nights dinners, £10

    Hi.....just go to your local kebab and ask for a mixed grill. At least you know it's fresh.
    What worries me with the boxed variety is the list of additives and that mech. chicken.
    Not for me this........great vlog, informative and honest. All the best 😎☯️🌱

    Those are the same Lamb Kebabs I mentioned before by the looks. Those I will buy again but this platter I am not sure about. One its a little on the big side for one and two some of the meats the doner the mechanically claimed chicken I would have to leave But the lamb kebabs in a pitta with a few trimmings I can certainly go for and yes they do have a bit of heat :).

    Great video marra. I think that's a fair price tbh. If there's a few of you, whack that in to cook, salad and pitta breads with a few fries. Could feed a good few.
    Think I'll stick with sriracha sauce though! 😂

    If I lived 50 miles away from the nearest Lebanese restaurant, 25 miles from the nearest kebab shop & while really drunk could work out how to cook the thing. I would be tempted to stagger from the Freezer to the oven with a box of this. Not sure anyone with other options would go for it but it looks like a lot of low cost food that is 100% what you want to eat after a lot of beers.

  • @Paul-67
