Majuli is the world's largest river island between the Brahmaputra and Subansiri river. It is mainly known for its Vaishnavite culture and its foundation was laid by famous saint Srimanta Sankardev and Madhabdeva. Earlier there were 65 Satras in Majuli, but presently there are only 22; the remaining Satras were relocated to various parts of Assam due to floods and erosion.
