  • In this video I'm doing an updated review of the RTX 3070 to see if it can handle 1440p, specifically the ASUS ROG STRIX Model at 1440p. It's been 2 years and many driver updates. So lets see if it's aged well and still worth the buy today. I also go into the current market and what pricing you should consider when buying an RTX 3070! I will be doing a follow up with the RTX 3070 vs the RX 6700xt please get subscribed to check that out.

    • IMO, for average gamer RTX 3070 is plenty for another 2 years. I've just got mine for 400 EUR 'used' (factory sealed) as some unfortunate scalpers are forced to sell brand new stock that they originally bought for 1100 EUR.
    • However there is one peculiar case for 1440p or 4K online competitive gaming that might become a trend in the future as more super detailed open worlds are introduced. Hunt: Showdown by Crytek has vegetation so dense, abundant and detailed that it's impossible to see other players hiding in it unless you play in 4K or at least upscale using NVIDIA's (DL) Dynamic Super Resolution, etc. I bought an RTX 3070 just to be competitive.

    For now, but in 2-3 years as texture files increase, I wouldn't be surprised if 50%+ games will exceed 8gb. IMO, combining low-medium settings with ultra/high texture details makes a dramatic difference in visuals as a GPU ages. You'll always get more mileage with the higher Vram competitor(RX6800 non XT). This is super important for individual who keep their cards for 4-6 years.

      Agreed and well said! That is something I have planned to mention in the "versus" video

    • @mehe
      @mehe Год назад +2

      I dont think it will ever exceed 8gb at 1440p especially, with the kind of compression optimizations we have now and stuff like resizeable bar even at 4k to be honest most games that 'use' 10+ gigs of ram actually dont use that much they just get it if the card allows it

    • @marcgallant5270
      @marcgallant5270 Год назад +2

      @mehe I don't think that's accurate. Older games already use 5gb @ 1440p while newer titles are sitting around 6.5-7.5gb. I guarantee 💯 in 4-6 years most AAA games will exceed 8gb @1440p with textures maxed out. We will probably start seeing this trend with newer titles soon, especially in modern game engines.

    • @KaiHinLkh
      @KaiHinLkh Год назад +1

      The only reason why you are seeing games only using 6-7 GB of VRAM at 1440p is most likely because you only have 8GB of it. The entire allocation process is designed to never reach and exceed the VRAM you have, otherwise the system will be unstable and crash. I've recently upgraded from a 1080 to a 3090 just because it's basically the same price as the 3080ti, never thinking I'll ever need 24 GB of VRAM at 1440p, but surprised to see Apex legends consistently using 10GB, Rdr2 using 15-16GB, while poorly optimised titles like Sniper elite 5 go as far as 20GB. While the games certainly would run with less VRAM, having more gives you the headroom that would help reduce stutter and deal with poorly optimised games better.

    • @BlueprintPC
      @BlueprintPC  Год назад +2

      So I hope you are correct! Optimization can play a part. When watchdogs legion was first released it almost maxed out my 3080 10g. Since then they have got it under control. Who knows tho, I worry some game engineers are getting lazy.

    How long can this graphics card with 8 GB of VRAM last in 1080p games with Ultra graphics at 60+ FPS, also considering Ray Tracing and DLSS?
    I ask the question because I am thinking of buying an RTX 3070 in 2023 and I would like it to last me about 3 years, but the 8GB of VRAM has made me doubt and think about opting for an RX 6700 XT or, on the NVIDIA side, a RTX 2080 TI, which have more VRAM, perform very similarly and I can get them for almost the same price. Another option would be to pay more for an RX 6800 with 16GB of VRAM to be completely free and safe, but I don't know if it's worth it.

Again, the 3070 is a fine card, and it does get over 60 FPS in most games. I'm just saying for me and my setup, where I want to get that true high refresh rate 1440p gaming its simply not up to snuff. As I said before I wanted to get a note powerful card but it, as everyone knows, was insane to get a card. I spent weeks on trackers to get my 3070 at near MRSP and not from a scalper. Hey there, so ultimately it's your decision. Now if it's from a private seller and there is no recourse if it's bad, I would pay a bit less. On ebay $350 or less is fair, because you at least have a little protection. You could always ask the seller to send you picks of it running in a system and a screen shot from a benchmark showing its performance.
