It is through an act of humility that we recognize we are sinners in need of God's mercy (true repentence), and then we humbly accept the free gift of salvation that God is offering us through Christ Jesus, for it is by God's grace through FAITH in the One Whom God sent as a propitiation for our sin. Pride will never accept that free gift, but will reject it instead in unbelief, which is the opposite of faith. Pride will never willingly bow the knee to the LORD of all creation, that is why the LORD hates it. The demons even know who Jesus is and tremble. However, they will not accept God's ways because of PRIDE. Many of mankind do the same, that is why rejecting the gospel is the unpardonable sin, for in pride you have rejected the prompting of the Holy Spirit that you are a sinner in need of God's mercy. You have rejected the Son of God's gift of salvation through your unbelief. You desire to be your own god instead, and you have rejected the Lordship of the Creator, just like satan did. Remember, the scriptures tell us that it is impossible to please God without faith. Unbelief's root cause is pride, therefore you will be rejected by God Almighty because of your unbelief. It was Adam's original sin. He ate from the tree of knowledge that God Himself told him not to eat from, and he did it BECAUSE of his pride. God told Adam that if you eat from that one tree, then you will surely die. Remember, satan told Eve that in the day that you eat of it you will be like God. Of course, that was a lie for satan is the father of lies. Adam was sitting right next to Eve when she was tempted (Go back and read it in Genesis), and he said and did nothing to try and stop it. Instead, he took the fruit offered to him by Eve and ate it too. It was Adam's job to lead and watch over Eve, so he failed in that aspect too. That is WHY God confronted him first in the garden. That is why the sin is passed down through Adam. That is why we needed a second Adam to overcome that sin of unbelief (Pride). That is what Jesus did when he came to this earth WILLINGLY, for He was tempted as we all are tempted (since he was clothed in flesh), yet Jesus did not sin BECAUSE He was not only fully man, but also fully God. He was the unique, one-of-a-kind unblemished human sacrifice sent on our behalf, therefore there is no other name under heaven by which men are to be saved. PRAISE GOD! You either HUMBLY accept that free gift through FAITH (believing what God did on your behalf and submitting to His lordship), thus you are saved by God's grace and power because FAITH is what pleases God. Or, you reject that gift in unbelief (pride, thus rejecting God's lordship) and God will resist you for He hates pride, thus you will remain in your tresspasses and sin, and God's wrath still remains on you for the day of judgement. Choose wisely. It has always been through faith that pleases God, even throughout the Old Testament.
