this is one of those micro management games where you pool your efforts with a bunch of other players , otherwise going solo is impossible in this kinda game. still this tutorial is ESSENTIAL as it shows the lack of forethought by developers to the new player's experience , because after years of development struggles to understand the mind of a noob.
I need to get back into this game. Third person, dirt no longer goes straight into your inventory, I don't like the increased nutritional complexity but those first two are things I've always wanted to see. Can't tell you how annoying it was to load your inventory down with dirt. You couldn't just drop it, that would undo your work, so you had to drop two items, open the resulting item box, put your dirt in, and take your initial items out to create the dirt pile.
I went through the tutorial yesterday and even so, there were aspects here that the game didn't really explain so thanks for making this. Still have a bunch of questions though, primarily what's to be expected and how to plan things. I have no shortage of ideas, but basically no clue as to what is feasible or even possible, and in what order I should do things to make some headway. Coincidentally I started in the same place as you show here and I proceeded to sort of bumble into the forest to the south where I've been busy reading on the wurmpedia about everything I see. I have no real concept of how I am supposed to survive, if there is danger around me, what I might need that I don't really have and if so, where I could get it and so on and so forth. As this started to sink in, I decided to log out and search for some information sources before I do anything else. Maybe I can actually formulate a practical plan at some point :)
Im really happy you found this useful and I can TOTALLY understand feeling alittle lost. I'll shortly be releasing another video covering that basic first day survival stuff. In the mean time, feel free to drop by my live stream and ask questions. Even if I'm playing another game I'm always more than happy to answer if I can!
Excellent comment. I'll be watching this video entirely later but please make that video about what players need to do in the first few days in the beginning as I expect to jump in the game within a couple of days do the tutorial but I'm watching your video first. Thanks.
While I enjoy Gamester4life and FactionalFight in the background while playing, this type of format was what I was originally in search of when I first started Wurm. You come off as professional and the preperation going into your videos shows. Hope Code Club AB is taking notes.... /sigh
Well dang, you've just made me tempted to start up this game for the first time. I've been watching your Wurm streams and the whole design of the game has felt very chaotic and overwhelming to me to the point where I don't really know what's happening, so it's nice to get an overview over what everything is!
It's an amazing game. Do try it out. It has many flaws but the biggest to me is the low population. I still come back to it though because nothing comes close to it. My advice is maybe try the unlimited instead of the online. The skolopolis server is as reliable as the officials
two things to add for new players watching this video you no longer gain skills in the tutorial and when you first start out you can use and NPC bartender you want to use them as soon as possible you can only use them for the first 24 hours but they'll restore your food and water and they'll sit your nutrition to 50 nutrition affects your skill leveling rate when you find somebody is good at cooking you can raise your nutrition above 50 the first 24 hours I don't recommend eating your own cooking but I do recommend working on it an eating raw food is always a bad idea
6 years ago me: starts game - gets sword from a crate - sees chicken - attacks chicken - chicken almost kills me. OK WTF? (played for 1 year before quitting tho)
I just started playing Life is Feudal MMO a month ago and it was just announced that it will be shut down yesterday :( I'm a bit hesitant to jump into another game after that but Wurm looks the closest to LiF. I know Kat's Purr from her incredible Ultima Online art and she seems to love the game, so it must be good. I will keep researching the game to decide if it's right for me, but looks pretty amazing.
Wow I had no idea they were shutting down life is fudal that game look like it had so much potential I never did try it I wanted to and I thought about it but I never did. This is a great game very grindy the steam wurm online community is pretty solid from what I can tell if you love crafting this is the game for you
I had to quit the game literally right after the tutorial. As the tutorial went on, my character got slower and slower, and by the end of it, he was walking at 2km/h. I unequipped my armour and everything. Anyone know why this is? My climbing is off. Everyone else around me was running at a regular speed
Well, son of a gun, I *knew* I was missing something. I went through the WO tutorial last night and the Mining segment totally glitched out on me, so when I was unceremoniously dumped into the Open World, I had no idea how to mine…not that I had much idea what to do at all. The Journal said to chop down some trees, but every time I tried it said they were locked: I'm wondering how many people have tried this game and given up because they spend the first hour or so wandering around trying to find a tree they can chop down 🤦♂️ So now that I've watched this, I theoretically know *how* to mine stuff, but have no idea how to find anything *to* mine…
That's really odd! To confirm you're 100% playing Wurm ONLINE not Wurm Unlimited right? Otherwise, does the scrolling method work for you as an alternative?
Very special game in a sense that there's no NPC given quests? Dude have you played any survival ever other than Wurm? It's a completely regular game like all the rest in this regard.
In your character menu in the top left you should see a "weight" symbol which will show you how the weight you're carrying is impacting your speed. If you're carrying too much you may need to drop some things :)
It's all exciting and you seems to be a good game, BUT without paying for premium, you won't do shit. Free accounts have skills capped at 20. You can only build a ridiculous small "house" (it's a cubicle-like) and you can't even ride a simple fucking horse, because you need a specific skill of 20.5 and you're capped at 20. Can't do this, can't do that, it's a sandbox crafting game and you won't even be able to craft even a fucking higher quality weapon than the starting one because capped skills won't let you do it. The fucking tutorial weapon is better than what you can craft. It's a good game, you'll be able to craft some shit and build your cubicle house, only to later find out you need premium to actually play the game. So you should have that in mind if you want to start playing Wurm. It's a stupid decision from the devs, because that way the game will never ever grow, even on steam, but what can you do...

it is playable solo, if you use the wurm unlimited version and increase skillgain and decrease timers
"It all sounds terribly exciting." Greatness.
Wooo! A tutorial for the tutorial!
Literally hahahaha
Would love to see further videos explaining some mechanics like particular new players should focus on, how to trade and make money, etc

02:48 - greenlaser likes to get down to the nitty gritty of sandbox games
This was very helpful, do appreciate the time and effort you put into explaining stuff.
Heck yeah, super happy you found it useful. Cheers!!
thank you for making this. i played so long long long ago a lot of things changed and this was excellent refresher.
Welcome back to Wurm!! I'm really glad you found this useful

I think Son Fable is right you may be over encumbered with carry weight.
@@BloodyDrongo Thank you both, I'll try again on that new server :)
- does anyone know if traps work on animals, monsters etc?? I like the idea of hunting with them or using them in PvP when i get good at it.
thanks
Good job man
Cheers!!

Instructions unclear, stabbed myself with a shovel.
Typical LOL
Thank you!
You're welcome!

Got it on steam and got stuck at _connecting to server_
Not impressed.
you just needed a small nudge to creating some quality content.
