I have lived in the UK off and on for a sum total of 20 years. I am now taking this test to obtain permanent leave to remain. Other than the fact that the law requires one to pass this test, I want to say that very little of the tested information will be of value to you as far as living in the UK goes. Where Charles the II went after he was defeated in Ireland in 1690 is hardly relevant information. It is more important to know things like the definition of words that are used in other English speaking countries but mean something different here such as torch, pants, bonnet, boot and suspenders as well as words that are not used elsewhere such as loggie, dreak, brollie and pram. It would also be helpful to know facts like there are no drive through ATMs and very few drive through services. Car parks generally have only one inlet/outlet and parking spaces are designed for one the tiniest of cars. When a fast food restaurant has a drive through there is only a 50:50 chance it will be working. When living in the UK never be far from an umbrella (brollie) or a raincoat. When this books says a quality of British people is the ability to laugh at themselves this is misleading. What they really mean is that you must have the ability to laugh at yourself but never, ever, make fun of a Brit. Basically, this test is a waste of your time other than being an immutable step in obtaining a visa or citizenship.

Thanks for making this available; until I found this I was feeling very overwhelmed studying alone. Q. I was told that at the actual test; you will only get questions related to where you live? Example: If you live in England; your questions will be related to test area. Likewise, if live in Scotland your questions will be mostly related to that area. If this True or False information please? Others say all questions will be found in Life in UK sample Tests 1 - 15 only and not from 16 - 40. I'd appreciate conformation so I'm not trying to remember everything; as I'll be setting myself up to fail. At 58 I need to / and I'd rather remain totally focused to learn what's absolutely need to learn for Test. Thereafter test I can then educate myself on everything else in sample test questions not needed. Thanks in Advance Tom. Your creation of this is very much appreciated. I was getting stressed out B4.
