  • Dehydrating food is the oldest forms of food preservation. It also makes some foods taste even better. Here are a couple different ways to dehydrate your foods in humid environments without electricity. I personally made an Appalachian Dehydrator and there is a readymade Dehytray.

I like that box that makes the hot air. All you can make a box like that put it up to a window in your house for heat.Research the details. Another possibility for heat.

I spray a light coat of pam on the trays then wipe them down with a paper towel to help keep them from sticking.

Good one, Chad, video on somebody in Marin through another group had a shed like that but the heat I think came from chambers on the sun side that by design get shoved in the bottom to rise up through the cabinet of food trays.

Ok, I've watched like 3 of your videos and everytime I've heard your little theme music I've tried to figure out what it reminds me of and I think I've got it. Is it the Band of Brothers theme song?

problem is that drying herbs has to be done in shade to keep the color of the herbs. under the sun it would turn brown

drying in a closed bad ventialting environment ,scraping every pc o fruit and to flip it. looks like you need to get creative ,youre doing a greatjob so far. just a few more adjustments will improve your yield and cutdown your "labour".

It’s better and faster to use a mandolin to cut thinly all fruit and veggies.

Ok so, gadget and swanky box, I' m on board with that - but on a practical level, could you not achieve the same result buy just putting a tray of food in the green house? Does the smaller volume of the box help increase the temperature?

I live in central France. Normally in summer I dry "wet" food in the?18 x 4 metre? polytunnel and "dry" food hanging in bunches outside. In winter I hang it all over the log burning cooker. It's Spring and Autumn that I have a problem with.
I've never heard of a dehytray before but it sounds like something I could do with. Thanks for your video
