    Reviewer here. Regarding the soundtrack, it's not newly arranged, that's my mistake. Was confused by the conflicting reports leading up to release about it. Recent news used the term 'refined', which I misconstrued as meaning newly arranged. You can disregard that part of the review entirely.

      I still have the original soundtrack for this game, even though my original Playstation died long ago. Still brings back memories. From the age of gaming where masterpieces like the original Ff7 and Xenogears came about. Curious what the new soundtrack sounds like. Sad to hear that even after all these years, few games exceed the bar this game set. And it didn’t warrant a remake either. The mobile game Another Eden was penned by this game’s writer. Sadly, it’s a gacha game which requires some deep pockets to obtain all the characters and side stories.

    I've been championing Chrono Cross ever since I played it in middle school. When I got older and told friends how much I loved it, all's they'd say was "It's not Chrono Trigger so it's sucks". I've tried a few times to get into Trigger and it's never grabbed me the way Cross did. The opening music and cinematic still hold up great today and how you start out powerful so you can see how you'll become once you get further into the game. Love Cross, I'm glad it's come back out and gives people a chance to see how good it is now that their eyes are no longer clouded by hate.

    Solid review from a fresh take. I like that you had the Battle with Fate playing in the background. There wasn't a lot of battle music variety and hearing the main boss battle music over and over again got extremely tiring but the Battle with Fate theme was a very unique and unconventional approach to battle music that I thought borrowed heavily from Chrono Triggers future era 2300 a.d. factory music.

    I still don't get why the Chrono fans hated this game. It's not like the Final Fantasy and Mana fans are hating their sequels too since none of them are connected to the first game anyways.

    • @yoso378
      @yoso378 2 года назад

      This game plays nothing like Trigger in the first place and the story is pretty hard to follow and quite different in tone. The connections to Trigger are very tenuous and mostly are all dumped on you at the end of the game. You also get waaaaay too many characters in Cross where Trigger having less meant that they could be better designed, more unique, and better written. The amount of characters in Cross almost entirely killed the Dual and Triple tech feature, which was one of the best things about Trigger.
      And I dunno what FF fans you've met but literally every game in that series gets a lot of hate from different sections of fans no matter if it's deserved or not lol.

    • @yoso378
      @yoso378 2 года назад

      It's definitely an infuriating design decision that happens a few times. You miss out on obviously-joins-you Leena unless you turn down Kidd for absolutely no reason, and you miss out on Glenn for saying no when the situation really feels like a typical JRPG moment where it doesn't matter what you say because you're going to be forced to say yes anyways. The latter is especially irritating since Glenn was heavily featured in promotional material and he's a callback to Trigger.

And then there's another one that's gamebreaking is to get stuck in a state where enemies constantly miss you. I actually do hope it gets patched. Overall I've just played through it and I love it for completionist sake. Some good replay value.

Maybe people don't like how there's so many characters and that it's dimensional travel instead of time travel like CT. But it also completes the concept of space and time travel.

    Unfortunately i did fall for the hype and went against my instinct....and got it....oh boy did i regret that....Yes the multiple characters and story branch was ahead of its time ..-but- today oh god was that an awful and dreadful game. Felt worst than work . Terrible maps leading to dead ends, no quest log, no journal .( I couldn't remember what i had to do if i turned the game off) , constant quest roadblocks upon roadblocks upon roadblocks for no reason, just to make it even more obscenely tedious. Interact detection was also so poor you had to spam a button for something to happen or else you risked thinking you couldn't interact with the object yet leading to more tedious backtracking. The graphics look terrible also for a remastered. I cant drop games unfortunately so i went through the trouble to finish it. One of the worst gaming experiences of my entire gaming career.

    Also, what the heck is with the whole x game is better than y game and if you don't like x you're not a true fan/don't know what a good game is?

  • @jatats7743
    @jatats7743 2 года назад +2

    Man. C'mon. You gave this a 9? What did they "remaster"? Very little if anything, adding speed to encounters and a new save system doesn't qualify as remastered in my book. When this game came out, it didn't deserve that high of a score, more like a 7... at best. Quit brown nosing big companies like SE so you can get review copies etc.
