Rudy, that box was from Anthologies. It was a box set and the second compilation set. It was printed in November 1998 to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Magic. It featured cards from Alpha through Urza's Saga. The print run was unknown. Anthologies had two decks, Green/White and Black/Red, and was printed with and without expansion symbols. The cards had white borders and standard backs.
I hope you know how lucky you are! I know you've said that it's a ton of work and you've lost some of the wonderment that you used to have, but you get so man opportunities and experiences that many people can only dream of. It's a great thing you do sharing these things with the world on youtube.
Dammit Rudy, show us the cards in that binder on the top left!!! Just me? I can't be the only one who was thinking that. Thanks for sharing, what a BEAUTIFUL collection of cards that guy had.
The Box comes from the Anthologies box set that wizards did back in the 90’s. All of the printed boxes that have been made over the years are great. Love the double sided New Phytexia ones they did too
Amazing collection! The vibrancy of those cards and the unblemished surfaces really stood out. Do you think they’d be in that good condition stored in sleeves in a binder, or were the toploaders helpful in maintaining their great condition?
I only got into MTG on RUclips because of your channel, Rudy. I don't play the game or collect the cards. I like your videos though, I studied economics at uni. Anyhoo, I got some more MTG videos suggested to me and it turns out you are the devil and you are spoiling MTG with your unethical, economical perspective they say. According to the rest of RUclips, you ARE Shady Rudy. You basically smell of old cups! (they reckon.) It is pretty funny to see people getting their knickers in a twist over this. I think your whole channel and concept (explicit economics from someone who loves the game and the art) is working great. I also enjoy the market rattling. BOO! Like your taco, you keep it up!
I work entry level at a mutual fund and went to school for economics. I love watching his videos for the economics. After watching your videos I want to play, but don't want to give Wotc money right now 😒
Joshua Morrow buy singles, and build your deck out of second hand cards from the local shop, cheaper for you, help a local business, and not give money to WotC...that's a win-win-win
I miss the old art of MtG. I wish we could get back to the art of Stronghold/Weatherlight/Urza's block/Invasion etc etc. That will never happen, wotc wants to print cards with fat old lady pirates and androgynous looking humans/planeswalkers. Love the videos where you show old sets Rudy, it makes me miss being in middle school and playing withe these old cards.
I was inspired to comment from the deck boxes. I dunno about Magic or the card scene in the States, but in Japan, this is something we have constantly being churned out from the 3-4 card game companies every time a new season/booster hits the shelves. Beautiful, well made, sold in flat-packs like IKEA some times but solid when you fold it into an actual box. Sure in Japan all this is merchandizing and creates money for the licence holder, but makes you wonder if Wizards should be doing more of these instead of less.
Would love to see magic bring back the older style of art work, something that this video highlights just how amazing the artwork is on the older sets.
Bushiroad makes a lot of those types of cardboard storage boxes. Especially for Buddyfight product. A really sweet one even came in the newest release.
This may sound stupid, but why does the font on the name of Basalt Monolith and Icy Manipulator pop out as really bold white? It doesn't match the other cards font color.
Seemed like the second Pearl had a pair of small white marks on the left edge of the border near the middle. Still a crunchy taco, but couldn't help but notice.
Rudy, love your channel! Thinking about signing up for your Patreon! If I signup will I have access to your case special of unstable?? Hope the greed monster isn't getting to me...
The box Rudy made comment on is not a deck box you could buy back in the day. I have one of those as well and it came from a sealed set. The set was white bordered of course, but for the life of me cannot remember what exactly it was. For some reason I believe the sealed set was reprints? Someone please confirm this for me.
Actually it is the Anthologies boxed set. The Beatdown boxed set has a jungle-like look to it (I have them both). It's a shame they don't make'm like this anymore.
Rudy - curious how it works with people sending you such "valuable" cards with no guarantee that you'll just not return them. Is there some sort of escrow?
Jeffrey Jaros I feel your pain. In 2000, I traded a light play beta lotus to a card store. I took a credit slip as there wasn’t anything I wanted at the time. I went back a week later and found out their Magic guy quit the same day I was there and took the card with him. Because the card was no longer in their possession, they wouldn’t honor my credit slip. So I basically gave away a beta lotus. Hindsight being what it is, I absolutely should have gotten the police involved, but I was too naive.
I try to not let it bother me. Like I said I was pretty naive back then, so if I hadn’t traded it at that time, I would have traded it elsewhere. So no matter what, I wouldn’t have it now. Who knew they’d explode in value?
yeah...i started playing in '94 and i can't tell you how many times i thought Magic would die out...i agree, who knew those cards would keep increasing so much in value....live and learn i guess...
FF 2022 new episode overprices proxy of beta reprints 30th anniversary comes out. Rudy’s still buying , amazons fire selling new magic, and Timmy’s still not buying and complaining.
Fuck i thought i only had shit Cards... got them back in th days from my Cousins... but i swear to god i have 2 of These clones! Was the Reprint the same artwork? Because if it was im sure its the Reprint... but if not, i might just have found some Money to be a timmy with =D
Is there a market for the old MTG boxes? I have some legit ones from back in the day EDIT: never mind you just answered the question. EDIT2: Actually, you did just answer the question!
I'll never own one of these cards and I think Vintage and Legacy as a format is cancer but I like to see the older cards, I wish Wizards would still put this much care into their products sure the modern art is nice but I feel like we've lost something.
The Goth King you should try some legacy then, it's highly skilled and extremely fun if you want it to be, but you could also just play combo decks to chincheck people on force of will, or play aggro. It's real cool.
Rudy, that box was from Anthologies. It was a box set and the second compilation set. It was printed in November 1998 to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Magic. It featured cards from Alpha through Urza's Saga. The print run was unknown.

Now if only cards came out of the package today in as good condition as ones from the 90s..
Shion Kreth amen, I left a rare on my table for like 2 hours after I opened a pack the other day and it was so warped.
Dammit Rudy, show us the cards in that binder on the top left!!!
Just me? I can't be the only one who was thinking that.

Went back through older videos been 2 months since last card shop life. Hope to see another one soon.

All the people I've seen like Rudy. Who are you watching?
Rudy, the art on Resurrection matches up with the mox Jet AND force field. Like you can match it up and tell all 3 came from the same larger painting.
Love to see the hydra and all these old cards. I started on these when I was 5. Glorious cards

One of the 2.69% of females viewership!!!!
You are a brave woman
same tbh
don't lie, girls don't exist. : ^)
Megan. wtf. Is... omg I am listening to your music as OH god damn... As I write this. Dude. Did you write this? This is Gold.
Aw damn. I just realized you are not a girl named Megan. It's a funny fuckin channel tho. Kudos.

Maybe it's because i only recently started playing magic but i really like the new artwork!
The art on newer cards is objectively better. Dislike the style, but as soon as you get technical, there just isn't any contest.
Thanks for the stroll down memory lane. I started playing during 'Beta', many moons ago.
Bushiroad makes a lot of those types of cardboard storage boxes. Especially for Buddyfight product. A really sweet one even came in the newest release.
That deck box is from Anthologies. You can get a sealed one on ebay pretty cheap.
I have 1 of each of the Beta power 9, but they're pretty heavily played. Debating whether or not to get rid of them
That deckbox art perfectly describes our community right now. 2 sides fighting eachother while ignoring the huge ass meteor falling from the sky.
Eh, I can think of one weekend where it felt like that.
Rudy = GOAT 🐐
This may sound stupid, but why does the font on the name of Basalt Monolith and Icy Manipulator pop out as really bold white? It doesn't match the other cards font color.
Clone is one of my fav cards. I would love that dark ritual as well :)
Love the box at the end!
Wow. That sapphire is especially nice.
Seemed like the second Pearl had a pair of small white marks on the left edge of the border near the middle. Still a crunchy taco, but couldn't help but notice.
I still use that exact box.
It currently holds my Krenko EDH and many, many Goblin tokens
Rudy, love your channel! Thinking about signing up for your Patreon! If I signup will I have access to your case special of unstable?? Hope the greed monster isn't getting to me...
Sweet, I'll email you about selling this monster collection. I would have to go to his house and do a video. Might take me a few days.
Rudy what about a set of beta llanowar elves hanging around?
awesome collection Rudy! your PTK set is still my fave pile of plastic.
what an awesome trip down memory lane, love the beta cards. great vid.

Twas the Anthologies set.
Thankyou so much for letting me REMEMBER! hahaha
SmashMTG OG lol happy to help
That dude knew how to store cards. Sweet buy!
His beta collection is in a gorgeous shape!!!
I have that box. Think it was called Beatdown. It had a black insert and came with two decks. I agree they dont make anything nice like that anymore.
Actually it is the Anthologies boxed set. The Beatdown boxed set has a jungle-like look to it (I have them both). It's a shame they don't make'm like this anymore.
Mike Rhinehart i said corrected sir!
Wizards isn't going to make quality innovative products anymore. They are riding their own coat tails.
Rudy, would you say that the Mox Sapphire in this transaction is worth grading?
GOAT Rudy has got to be my favourite Rudy!!
;)
My favorite part was the box.
box is my fav part also :)
Deckbuilder's Toolkits are pretty decent.
I want that card box. I tried contacting you about deck boxes such as that! I wanna buy it damnit take my money already.
I'd love to pay buylist for these!
Rudy - curious how it works with people sending you such "valuable" cards with no guarantee that you'll just not return them. Is there some sort of escrow?
Masterpieces, invocations and expiditions print run please!! Also the hascon/ comic con promo's!
Id be curious to know for expeditions. I just finished my set 1-45.
show us that binder Rudy!!1!
wasnt that a chronicles starter or somthing like that?
which sleeve do you use?
When the surface of a 25 year old card looks better than the 2 month old surface of the phone screen you are looking at it on. Feelsbadman
1998....sold my whole collection that year for $800....still regret selling the Beta Time Walk and Underground Seas
= (

oh man....that is horrible....sorry to hear you had to go through that
I try to not let it bother me. Like I said I was pretty naive back then, so if I hadn’t traded it at that time, I would have traded it elsewhere. So no matter what, I wouldn’t have it now. Who knew they’d explode in value?

So do you see older editions climbing in value since the new stuff is really bad quality?
won a like with the box. love the set symbols. WHY CAN'T WE HAVE NICE THINGS ANYMORE
rudy with beta investments
Gorgeous collection.
Amazing power cards looked pack fresh thx Rudy
Those are some nice investments you got there.
Are we going to get a new Q&A soon?!
I have some Homelands and Fallen Empire collection to sell you for a premium.
Rudy, did he say why he sold his collection??
Teared up a bit at the Sapphire
Full noodles-n-company lookin ass hard shell taco right now rudy
I have some stuff from 1995 Odyssey stuff... is that old enough? I want to sell the lot. like 1100 cards.
Never mind, I just saw the end of the Video, I'll send you an Email.
FF 2022 new episode overprices proxy of beta reprints 30th anniversary comes out. Rudy’s still buying , amazons fire selling new magic, and Timmy’s still not buying and complaining.
I'm sad to hear those won't be for sale, I would love to own a piece of power and you're the only one I'd trust to sell me legitimate ones.
Do you ever consider getting these sorts of cards graded?
where are those printrun numbers rudi!? i want my taco moist again :-)
Rudy, why not create a MTG box for mass manufacturer?
Love dark ritual.... $50+ dollar common. Always looking for more.
“Everybody go buy this card” -Rudy “ there all gone except for rudy’s million copies.... prices instantly go up
We then go buy a an originally ten dollar card for fifty
Must have been tough fitting green screens into all those card protectors
Does Rudes have a store and what is it
Dat Mox Sapphire is so beautiful. Pristine condition.
I’d so buy a deck box like that
I want you to grade those Power Cards and talk about the grades in a video
Green Screen Rudy's at it again!
rudy should buy all my chain stasises.
I don't play Magic and, hell, even I'd buy a deck box like that. Perfect to keep PS2 memory cards and other little things I have laying around.
Something about the Legacy sets...an sense of exotic forbiddeness, a mysterious air, the mechanics were simpler and straightfoward...
Hey, this isnt a print run leak!
everyone is cleaning house because Llanowar Elves are now in Modern again. :)
That moment when your more interested in the Box then the cards.
My favorite part was the part with cards
Who's better Jem or the Misfits?
Hey rudy, im from jax and wanting to sell cards to u. Should I just meet you in your store?
Top video
Heh. Beta White Knight.
HA! Nice catch on the "beta". +1
Those are gorgeous cards, varily. JOYOUR DAYS OF APPROPRIATED PAGAN ZEALOTRY TO YOUSE RUDE DUDE aka EL RUDY! ^~^
Nice vid.
Smart Rudy, first tease the shit out of people and then casually add a 'not for sale' at the end to triple the price for potential buyers.
"not for sale" = oldest marketing trick
My dumb MTG hord card was different variants of clone.
Fuck i thought i only had shit Cards... got them back in th days from my Cousins... but i swear to god i have 2 of These clones! Was the Reprint the same artwork? Because if it was im sure its the Reprint... but if not, i might just have found some Money to be a timmy with =D
Revised reprint was the same art work
How you got so much money
Careful Rudy
Is there a market for the old MTG boxes? I have some legit ones from back in the day EDIT: never mind you just answered the question. EDIT2: Actually, you did just answer the question!
Rudy not speaking in caps? My Taco is floppy but willing
New boxes would have the yellow MAGIC logo and that makes it worth 0 money
So, No one is going to tell the infamous joke about resurrection!?
I'll never own one of these cards and I think Vintage and Legacy as a format is cancer but I like to see the older cards, I wish Wizards would still put this much care into their products sure the modern art is nice but I feel like we've lost something.

"do not underestimate the demand for common betas" (current year) in a nutshell
In Japan if u buy a box or xxx amount u get one for free
Beta: The one time WotC made a good decision by reprinting a set.
