Having a plan is better than no plan at all but when I ask the following question; "Where will you bug out too?" I more often than not get a deer in the headlight stare because most haven't looked that far ahead.

Lilly. I would wrap devices in bubble wrap first, then thin cardboard, then foil. An EMP might short devices if the foil is in direct contact. The bubble wrap can be used to collect rainwater, or to sit on, in cold weather. The cardboard would be good for dry tinder, but could also be worn next to the body for trapping body heat. The foil can be used in firebuilding, rainwater collection and cooking. I know that YOU know this Lilly, I'm just stating it for any newbies who may not have considered this.

For a bag meant to be used while on the move, I use the least bulky half mask option possible, then include a small pair of swimming goggles to protect the eyes from gases, smoke, etc. Unlike welding and riding goggles, swimming goggles are air (and water) tight.

I am a retired Comm’s Technician and you definitely want to remove all your batteries from your electronics before preparing them for a EMP. Also it is very important to NOT let your antenna make contact with your foil that you are using to wrap your radio in. Perhaps put your radio in a box or plastic bag, then wrap it up 2x’ s with foil.

Is permalloy foil significantly better than aluminum foil? I had many discussion about that with electro-geeks. And they told me that paramagnetic metals like aluminum do not filter magnetic compound of EMP. This is the problem.

    • @chriscomms.2399

@@petrklic7064 The best way to tell if something will work is to get yourself a small transistor radio. Turn it on and find a strong station. Place that radio or even a cell phone into what you plan on using. If you can’t hear the radio station, then you blocked the signal. If you can’t call the cellphone and it won’t ring, you’ve blocked the signal. This is what you want. As far as alloy foil, I’ve never actually tried that.

Both have the weather channels and a flashlight, and the Wouxun scans must frequencies. The Federal license was $35.00 dollars for 10 years for the entire family. A great addition to staying safe. If your car gets stolen, what makes you think they're going let you get a bag from your car? Or a Car Accident Damaged your bag? You can prepare for any emergency situation (Which is a Good Thing), But the KEY to Survival may come down to you being able to Adapt.
In a Crisis, think of "Naked and Afraid", but in Real Life. We watch and Learn from Videos like Lilly's, but the big thing is to know what to do if you forgot something or you lose your supplies.

i always read that people/b.o.b. pack you should/maybe carry gold or silver. i would think that a no or little inter action with people would be what you woud want in bugging out. (with all the people who will be out it may get/be imposible not to) but maybe in say 90 days having gold/silver may come in handy (yes i know, can't go back to get it) but to have it would not be my priority. to barter with, again not to get/run into people if you do not have to would be my main concern. (say you barter with the gold/silver now you may be a target) always something to think about when/if the balloon goes up. water=how much and may get to heavy, food how much do you have room or to much weight (even if dehy.), first aid=you always can not find something you did not bring if you did not practise a shake down. be alert my fellow preppers, stay safe and be aware with what's out there and what you may need/have. like i said carry your stuff a few miles to see if you can do it and add or lighten as needed.

Keep up your little money-making scheme, it’s working great for you. So great, you ignore the poor with an astonishing lack of empathy. Every week I see and help the homeless as much as I am able. I see people that are living an urban hunter-gatherer survivalist life 24/7 365 days a year, with very little resources. Most don’t last long without help, some have lifespans measured in months once they become homeless. I am constantly amazed at the ingenuity they muster to survive in an urban environment with very little money, engaging in the urban equivalent of what survivalists do on practice trips, but these people are living a hunter-gatherer existence every day of their lives until they are housed. You are clearly teaching survivalism to only a certain economic class, with a certain amount of disposable income.

The cost of utilities and rent going up. We are quite literally living paycheck to paycheck And at the moment, can't even afford to go. See a movie, let alone continue buying, preps So I can imagine how frustrating it would be. If we were new to the prepping game and had just started trying to build our bug out bags suddenly found ourselves this financially strapped.

Don't take advice from RUclipsrs who don't know crap about certain subjects. You can't have your device contact the foil, tin, etc. The device must not touch the foil or it will not be saved from the EMP. The real bugout. Hop in your car and drive to a hotel in a safe area. Bug out done. Everything else is fantasy crap. People also go into a ditch during the winter all the time and you need gear to keep yourself warm until help gets there or you self-rescue. Most people who talk about bugging out has never bugged out. My friend bugged out with his family because of a forest fire. It was a bug out, not a camping trip. It was a bug out, not a Mad Max shoot out. More recently there was a stabbing on the subway, the bug out was to get away from the attacker and off the subway car.

Something that might be better than night vision, especially for the use you mentioned: A cell phone with a FLIR camera. I bought a Blackview BV9800 Pro directly from the manufacturer about a year ago for $320 USD shipped. It's fully rugged and waterproof, has a huge battery, and a built in FLIR camera. Unlike a lot of the rugged or 'work' phones with wonky operating systems that won't run a lot of apps it'll run any version of Android and I've yet to find an app that doesn't work on it. With the FLIR camera I can see anything warm blooded through even the most dense brush. I'm sure you've seen FLIR cameras in action on TV shows like cops. This one isn't super high resolution like the ones on helicopters, but it overlays the FLIR image over the image from one of it's two 'regular' cameras so you can see a lot more detail. I can see the electrical wires and pipes in the walls of every building I've tried it in, so long as the wires or pipes are in use, or recently used. Amazing tech for three hundred bucks, and we're all carrying around a phone anyway!

I have two topics to cover, so I will post two separate comments.
In this one the topic is: Mapping.
You definitely have the right idea with having printed maps and planning your route(s) to your destination.
However, you seem to have left out one important detail: Water sources.
I suggest that you should plan your route to include as many natural water sources as possible. Mapping a straight-line route to your destination will result in bypassing many water sources, which may result in dehydration (not to mention dry rations at meal times), which is something we all want to avoid... right? Also, mapping a straight-line route makes it somewhat easy to predict your route, if not your actual destination.
Search your maps (printed and online) to find every natural water source - streams, rivers, lakes, ponds, etc - then plan your path to follow a straight line from pond to stream to river to lake.... wherever possible, travel along the shore of the lake, or parallel to the path of a river or stream. (Anyone who may be watching can only predict you will travel to the next water source.)
Now you can use your filters to make that water potable.
I also recommend you get a pump with tubing and a SILT-screen on the end, so you can put the tube into the water and pump out water, pre-filtered, while you're up and looking around. When you're bent over to scoop the water, you will be vulnerable to everyone and everything because you can't see.
SO, set up next to the pond or stream, toss in your water line and pump it into your collection bottle OR pump it directly into the filter to go into your clean water container. While pumping water, stay upright, keep your eyes open and your head on a swivel.
Now, I do understand that Germany has lots of water sources, which means this may be non-problematic. Usually.
Is that something you can absolutely count on?
In YOUR case, if you're travelling on-foot, I recommend (in that example) going the North route, up to where the lakes are. Then go West, following the line of water bodies, then south-west to the small lake, then north-west... and so on, and so on. You may even end up to the north of your destination and approaching that goal south-ward thru the wilderness. (Map accordingly.)
Another thing to do is take a little Road Trip on your weekend and explore the areas you might want to go through on your route. See what the water sources look like. Find out if there is security or military or police, etc. Listen carefully for banjoes.
ALSO plan an expedition to your destination to look at the country around that location and plan multiple possible approach routes, in case you have to cross country by back-roads and over the river and through the woods, etc. Talk to your Family and your people about the surrounding country and backroads and get *their* suggestions.
While you're there... Listen carefully for banjoes.
Find out where the water is there. Find out where good camping locations are. Find out the best route(s) thru the woods. Talk to them about possible locations to place your caches. IF you can afford to do so, consider renting a Storage Unit and keep your water, fuel, backup vehicle(s) like bike or scooter, maybe snow shoes, canned foods, dry tinder, fatwood and firewood, gas and even charcoal. That would be a perfect place to keep a small 'Smoky Joe' style BBQ aka portable camping grill. IF NECESSARY a storage unit can be a temporary bugout location, or intermediate stage bugout station. If can be an overnight camping shelter, where you can camp out and eat a hot meal before getting back on the road to your intended destination.
Plan that storage unit location somewhere between your water sources.
ONCE YOU GET to your ultimate BOL destination... Start learning how to play the banjo.

Great job!!! There are a few things I would consider adding. First is safety goggles/safety glasses. Second is work gloves. Third is batteries. 4th is a battery tester. 5th is a pencil sharpener. I have a solar battery recharger and battery bank and I like to keep all my batteries charged, but remembering which ones are charged and which ones are not charged can be difficult in an emergency situation. I also keep my electronics in an EMP bag or a waterproof EMP pouch. I also keep a hygiene kit, a Scrubba laundry washing bag, a solar shower, and a clothesline in my bag. 10 days in unclean clothes or without keeping clean can breed bacteria which can cause infections. I also have an empty cooler chair for when I need to sit. It's very lightweight and can waterproof items in a storm.

PROTECTION, EATING, AND SIGNALING IS VERY IMPORTANT. Meat will strengthen and sustain you so much better than a cricket or grasshopper or a wild onion. This presentation would be okay for a 9 year old girl or boy that was going to spend a Sat. afternoon pretending to be in a survival situation. Survival or not, women who travel alone should be armed and familiar with firearms.

Lilly, look into the "Solo Stove" for cooking. I use one on all my excursions. They are light in weight and there is no need to carry fuel when going out. You can even cook with leaves but I use mostly twigs and sticks (no large material needed). Time to cook 12 oz of coffee, 20 minutes. Also, the fire is mostly contained within the stove so there is very little flame that could easily be obscured. Love your videos!

The P2 or P3 filters you have are great but I suggest the 3M 6035 cartridge P3. The 3M “pandemic” filters. They can be reused easily and will last for the “life of the pandemic”. They only fail a after being clogged with dust which takes weeks to months in a normal environment. Light, robust and pass air easily. In an actual pandemic, the external plastic box is wiped down with alcohol or similar and the mask is soaked in a bleach bucket, all with proper technique. The main advantage is their durability and they are much more robust to knocks and scratches. You would also need the charcoal cartridge filters. By the way, the 3M painter half masks are the same as the medical 3M half masks. Identical. Something I found out desperately looking for PPE as a medical worker during COVID. Not going into mask effectiveness during COVID here.

If you've got to walk 10 days what if there are few/no water sources along the way (making your squeezy water filter/sawyer redundant)
For such a long journey you need to take at least one 2litre+ bottle FULL of water.
I take it your two light water bottles were empty right?

@@SurvivalLilly Suspect most people when they bugout wont have mapped out the water sources en route (or the possibility if everything goes down, that there's a dead carcass of a cow upstream / some other contagion)
Yes water is heavy. But better to take more water if possible..
So many permutations that it's almost impossible to prepare enough. Bigger the "group", the wider the age groups, the more difficult such is.

interesting selection.. seems very heavy for the average person to carry for 5 hours a day for 10 days. How much does it weigh? I'd just say do not take sawyer mini as your main source of filtration, as noted by thru hikers who use this kind of stuff for weeks and months on end, they are notoriously bad at becoming clogged or very slow and hard to flush. If you're carrying a sawyer, get the big one and carry the syringe, also carry chlorine dioxide (katadyn micropur) tablets as a backup, they weigh nothing and kill everything that a filter misses like viruses.
