    Love your videos Phil and Jane! Especially your treks off the ship to find the good beaches. My wife and I try to cruise in the Caribbean once a year and are always looking for things to do on the port days. Keep up the great work!

    Thanks for posting this! I've been on a few Royal ships in the past year, Freedom, Harmony, Navigator and soon on Ovation. I was just curious how the oldest ship in the fleet would look. I would definitely sail on this ship. I like how there is a lot of natural light, which is one thing that was lacking on Harmony. When I cruise I prefer ships and dining venues with natural light. For an old ship they seem to keep it up pretty well. I've also sailed on Princess and Carnival, and their older ships don't seem to hold up as well, especially Carnival.
    This was one loaded itinerary too. I personally prefer more sea days and might consider staying on the ship during Labadee since I've already been there. How did you find the food in the Main Dining Room and Windjammer? For me, each ship I mentioned were inconsistent with their dining. For Harmony, dinner in the Windjammer was cold and flavorless. I'm excited to see what Ovation is going to be like. And very excited to be in Vancouver for 2 days prior to my cruise!! Overall how did you like this cruise?

      Hello Aron, thanks for you're great comment!
      I definitely agree with you on the natural light issue. In general we also like to feel connected to the ocean which is hard to find on Oasis Class ships. If you like lots of light Royal's "Radiance Class" achieves this with all the glass they have. Most newer ships now have more open deck space lower down to achieve this. Think MSC Seaside, Carnival Horizon, NCL Getaway ETC...
      We have never been on the Quantum class ships (cancelled during covid) but hopefully someday.
      As for the food. Jayne and I both feel that (in our opinion) most cruise lines dining experience is not what it was. Food, service, staffing have all changed. We feel it is very ship dependent and not so much cruise line dependant on the cositancy of thees things. The Grandeur was no different. Food quality was inconsistent in the main dining room, very hit and miss. Buffet was good (not great) but was very congested. The ship was full though. Park cafe was't that good but Chops was the best meal we had ($)
      This cruise was very port intensive which I think that really helps on a smaller ship. This definitely gives you the opportunity to stay onboard and enjoy a less crowded ship when in port.
      Overall we enjoyed the cruise. The price was VERY GOOD and we had lower expectations coming in. No major complaints and for a 26 year old ship, she managed to deliver a good cruise experience.
      Check out some of our other videos and hopefully you can extract some more info.👍🏻
      Thanks again for watching and please subscribe if you haven't already.😎
      Cheers🛳️

      I sailed on her twice, inaugural year in ‘97 then again in ‘05. That was my last cruise. She was a beautiful ship both times although my favorite will always be Majesty of the Seas!
      I’m taking my mom on a cruise next month and purposely picked the voyager class due to ship size. First I don’t need an amusement park but 2nd one of my favorite things is to watch the sea from the schooner bar etc and the new mega ships have sacrificed ocean views in public spaces for more balcony cabins. I understand why they have done this but still I want to feel like I’m on a ship and not a massive hotel!!

      @PhilCatsea  Год назад

      Totally agree the bigger ships definitely make it harder to have an ocean view from anything other than your balcony or a deck 20 stories up. LOL.
      in my opinion the radiance class ( coming in at just over 90,000 tons ) still have the best schooner bar with floor to ceiling windows! 👍🏻
      Enjoy your cruise and thanks for watching 🛳️👍🏻

      @@PhilCatsea just an update...My Alaska sailing came and went, May 11th to May 19th and it was LIFE CHANGING!! Loved Vancouver, LOVED Alaska, and really liked Seattle. Was my first time to all of those places. RCL's Ovation of the Seas was a nice ship, although the layout was a bit odd at times. I loved Two70, which is their area on the back of the ship with lots of glass facing the ocean. It was a great place to relax on a sea day and have some morning coffee. Best food was in the main dining room, otherwise it was just ok everywhere else. Food quality seems to be declining with Royal. My wife and I enjoy food and will probably start looking at other cruise lines soon. We recently booked a Virgin Voyages group cruise for June 2024. They are known to have some of the best food at sea. Looking forward to experiencing the food and an entirely different way of cruising.

    Just a little info from my hubs who is retired Navy. If you get confused about port/starboard. Port has 4 letters as does left. So port is left, starboard right. 😉

    • @PhilCatsea
      @PhilCatsea  Год назад

      True…👍🏻 also the red light is on the port side … port wine is red. So then you always know at night (when you see a ships light ) which way the ship is facing. 🛳️👍🏻. Fun facts 😎
