My 18'th show. My 8'th straight show with the acoustic sets at the Warfield, and my last night of vacation. My 24'th birthday. thank you for making it available to everyone to enjoy as much as the few thousand of us who were there.
I bumped into Bob Petersen, Phil Lesh's lyricist, at the Warfield bar between the first and second set, and he was very into having a conversation with someone (me) who knew who he was. He looked like a non-threatening biker and was wearing the sort of hat and vest that wouldn't have looked out of place on Ron McKernan. He was friendly and smart, and I wish I could remember more exactly what was said, but between the years and the substances, you know... But I do remember discussing "Unbroken Chain" and "Pride of Cucamonga" with him, both songs that I am very fond of. Just to add some further description of the venue's vibe, they were showing Egypt movies in the lobby, and close by there was - propped on an easel - the original painting which served as the cover of "Live Dead." It was just the painting itself, no frame or glass, and no one stopped me from touching it and at that moment, as a former New Yorker, I felt as if I had gone through the looking glass.
Man! Thank you for sharing that epic moment in Grateful history. I was only 5 years old when this show happened. I got to the first one I possibly could…Buckeye Lake 1991. I was double dipped and deep deep fried for that show. …silver paper with a blue star. The stars did dance with me. ….Tom
Great decision for Okies Dead Days time machine to take a breather and slide forward one day. We got all the acoustic songs we missed on 10/3! To Lay Me Down and Must Have Been The Roses. Can anything sound better? You are performing a great service for DeadHeads everywhere Okie. Much thanks.🌹
@@OkieDeadhead Oh yeah! 90% of my tape collection was 80s Dead. You can never have too much Tiger and Brent! 🎸🎤 🎹 🎶 It's gonna be a great Okie Dead Days week. 💀🌹 I love calling this that. 😉
Thanks okie! It's so refreshing to hear a new show that corresponds to the date! Your the best man! Awesome shows and great quality! Thank you so much !!!
I love reading the tour and show stories from you all. I didn't get on the bus until '90...I'm 45 now but had a stepdad that was a head so I was very aware of the band since the early 80's. When MTV was still a virgin I remember seeing the Ripple video from Radio City. It's awesome to hear shows from the acoustic first set shows they did othet than NYC. Thanks, Okie! Wonderful community here on your channel.
as the sun comes up and makes the field in front of me visible by the woods it feels like I can see the crowd and the band from a distance feels like I'm walking into a show lol 😘
I've only gotten through the acoustic set and thoroughly enjoyed it. Brent was spot on! Great audio; darn shame OTRA got cut off before the ending. Still, only a faint blemish at worst. If you couldn't be there, we can be here as if we were sitting on the stage. :) :) :)
Althea is slow and lazy and precise, her heavy needle hitting the spot. Love the patient chug of the engine, and the subtle push of the bongos. The last solo is to die for. Definitely thinking alot about less and less...
SPOILER ALERT 🚨 Upon listening to this recording of Deal (which should be the same performance as on Dead Set, right?) it’s clear that guitar overdubs were made in the first solo if not elsewhere. I know that the Dead Set mixes were edited in length to be shorter, but I didn’t realize the band actually re-recorded elements of their “live” albums. I just transcribed Jerry’s solo from Dead Set, hence my sensitivity to the somewhat less than subtle alterations. I’m sure this has been addressed before, but definitely new to me. Not sure how i feel about this... it’s like that feeling the first time I recognized the tape edit in Chameleon or In A Silent Way... I love/hate pulling back the curtain.
upon further listening, it seems like the two solo passes through the verse and chorus on this recording were combined to make the dead set version... however there’s still a bit of ‘studio magic’ on the dead set version not found here. Please chime in if you’re in the know about their approach to sweetening live albums... am fascinated at this point.
In our history there is no other band that gave us what Jerry and the boys did, everything, it was us together, having the experience,
Yes indeed dear brother Ben.
Thanks Okie!!!
Curt & I celebrated Curt’s Birthday that night! FUN!
Thx again Okie, once again "Grateful"ly appreciated for sure.
Later Peace

This one sound so sweet. What a night for you.
So kind, I've never heard any of this run before, and perfect soundboard quality to blow my hair back.
Okie knows sound quality. All his stuff sounds great!
Listening to to lay me down now. Oh my...
