- Lord Hood's ships are on their way to finally put the Prophet of Truth in his place, but we need to clear out all of the anti-air batteries before they arrive so that they don't all end up as a smouldering pile of scrap, in this fourth mission of the Halo 3 campaign. Me too. I don't have an Xbox or even halo 3, so I'm watching these vids for entertainment until I get one and actually use them.
I sold my Xbox and I regret it, and I don't think I should get it back because it's too expensive, but seeing these halo videos gives me my fix

likewise. I sometimes use them if I forget wher I' m supposed as the game doesn' talways put up a destination marker but it is intreesting to see how different people play the games. I usually only play on eas ybut that's mostl ybecause of my diasbility given I onl yhave 1 hand on the controls and I' mno tthe quickes tplayer either. Thankfully Halo isn' ttha thard because a tleast thanks to hte fact Chief has shields it does make it easier to play i tonly gets truly annoyoing an ddtough when fighting things like the flood.
This is probably in the running for my favorite Halo mission, because of the way that it felt like you were part of an actual army offensive for the first time rather than just taking the point with sometimes the support of marines and vehicles and stuff. I guess it's also why I liked the opening part of Gears of War 2 as the army rolled out. Plus, this level gives us some truly great music.
Actually, a lot of Halo 3 feels like that, huh.

Thats why it is the fan favourite halo based on the community ;) hard to find a mission that sucks rather than cortana. I enjoy the other flood missions liek floodgate
Tsavo Highway if played right, The Storm, The Ark, The Covenant. All big battles that you're a piece of. Very much fun. But yes, The Storm is particularly noteworthy, I'd say.

Despite the fact he had engaged them on multiple occasions, Arbiter couldn't recognize that incoming crash landing as a sign of the flood, not brutes? Silly Arbiter!
tbh I could see the flood being better drivers than the brutes

He can in the first game. I guess it got recoil because the games started to be more competitive.
And flips the safety off with his left hand instead of just using his thumb like a normal person🤦

Fun fact this was the very first fps related thing I have ever played. I played co op with my brother and it was an amazing first experience. Fighting the Spider, seeing the flood take over and change the level blew my mind as a kid.
You can destroy the scarab in about 30 seconds with the rocket turret aimed at the back plates shielding the power core spamming it with rockets. It doesn't work so easily if skulls are added to Legendary difficulty.
Great job showing that elevator to get on the Scarab trick. The developers should have told players about that elevator to get up to the Scarab, especially since most of the time, it doesn't come down far enough to jump on it when trying to do it the developer-preferred way. I've been running through Halo 3 several times now, and I've hated dealing with that Scarab. Halo 3 ODST showed me how to kill Scarabs while flying without landing.
same. this mission is by far my most hated halo mission. the in game wording says shoot them legs, so i shoot and none landed on the legs since the convenient homing feature from 2 is now removed and the legs are constantly moving so .... just impossible to guarantee a hit. died here again and again for 10 min. really got tired and annoyed. some devs always got funny ideas about "difficulty or challenge". cheap enemies or misleading ingame cue certainly are NOT difficult nor challenging, they are just ANNOYIN
This game's campaign is amazing.
the most epic part is the end, the beast sound of the aa gun and the brothers in arms music playing, always the bit i turn the volume up on. :') loved it

I always loved how in this mission a bunch of workers decide to become soldiers! I remember I used to give them op weapons so they would clear the mission by themselves! 😂
Again, I truly miss Miranda bossing you around, giving you orders. I miss the conversation between her and Lordhood. I miss Johnson giving you wisdom. It's just alive, human. It's a comforting process for a social butterfly like myself.
haven't played this game in a year. even then, i only played the game just enough to get to this mission and i decided to pick up from where i left off today. took me 4 hours to do this on legendary. so worth it.

You make the A.I. Seem like they can kick-ass, you sir are a badass.
I'm impressed that you managed to kill a bunch of those drones without losing your full engergy shielding.
I have my own strategies that I prefer for some parts, but I do take a few pages out of your playbook every now and then. The place with the first AA Wraith and the place with the Scarab namely. Thank you. Those parts were always a pain for me.
God the intro into this mission never gets old
I love how in some missions you say restart of the chieftain drops a flair, I just use what I have to take on the next room. Screw restarting. It’s worked so far.
Technically you can bring the Wraith through the gate, just melee off all 4 “wings”. Make sure you have a marine in the Turret to soak up DMG so you don’t destroy it. Still wouldn’t recommend because Power Drain & Drones will wreck you along with Ghosts in the next section

If you have enough sniper ammo, you could snipe the power core from a distance :P
That would imply skipping the entire encounter, which is something you won't find on my channel.

This mission is badass, I love it.
Halo 1,2, and 3 had a feeling of fun that 4 and 5 missed. Hopefully 6 brings this unexplainable feeling of gameplay back.
Got a decent run of it on my second try tonight, and actually remembered to save it this time. I've got a day off tomorrow, so hopefully, I can make the flythrough video and have it up in about 24 hours. No promises though.
As someone who's been going through Legendary in the PC MCC release, Halo 3 has been shockingly hellish. Hopefully I can use the strategies you've provided to help mitigate things in the missions to come.

@@benc77 I remember having real difficulty with regret. I got a bad save on the gondola and then killing him was tricky. But what a feeling when I did it. I’ll never forget!
@@sandman8920 yeah when people complain the boss fight is too easy I instantly think they haven’t played it on legendary, what a struggle with on halo 3 the most is definitely the vehicle section on the ark because my marines don’t do anything and I get 1 shotted by a ghost
Not just that. Think about it. Which is worse, a genocidal army, or an infection? A genocidal army leaves behind a bunch of dead people, but an infection causes every single person that it kills to join the other side, becoming more and more powerful with each defeated enemy!
Coolest guy award goes to......HOKIEBIRD428! Because he doesn't look at explosions because he's too busy getting away from them.
In order to destroy the scarab in seconds, use the missile pods and keep hitting the back until the weak point is exposed.
No deaths, cinematic run, save the Marine, have at least one Elite survive to talk to the Arbiter, stick both carrier forms to completely prevent them from releasing any infection forms...stuff like that. It sounds easy, but it can be a little bit tricky amidst all of the chaos to get it all perfect.
Lots of practice, and lots more thinking about ways to get through encounters while I'm not playing, and then trying them out when I get the chance.
Hokie sounds like he has a lot more fun with this than say some Halo 2 levels which was a slog.
Arbiter: “What is it? More brutes?”
Chief: “Worse”

Two alternate strategies...1. At 0:40 you can make a left through the door, up the stairs, make another left, and a door will open. There is a battle rifle in there, I like to replace it for Halo 3's awful pistol. 2. During the scarab fight, you can get on the missile pod and destroy it almost instantly if you hit it at the right angle. If you don't get it at that start, just keep shooting at the back plates until they come off and you can hit the core with the missile pod. No boarding needed.
+Ryan Apperson 1) Yes absolutely. I've been doing it that way for a while.
2) I always got killed by the Scarab when I tried the missile turret. I find boarding it to be more reliable, and more exciting.

As for suggestions, I think jumping and hitting the second door switch and driving the hog in the first room, and hijacking the mortar wraith as it lands are easier and faster methods. Also an Arbiter with a rocket launcher is fun, but I enjoyed watching the tactics you used without the Arbiter.
Once you get outside with the warthog and a marine passenger and gunner I run down the brute and grunts like Hokie shows but once they are down I like to stay in the warthog to mop up most everything else. After I ran down the brute and those grunts I stayed right there and let the gunner take out the enemies on that little building that has the missle pod on top. Once they are down I let the gunner take out some of the ghosts. After that I drove down to the anti-air wraith and let the gunner take out the rest of the ghosts then we took out the wraith. When the banshees showed up I hid by the bridge for cover and it was easy to take them out since they were distracted by the hornet. After that I parked the hog in a safe place and went for the sniper rifle and took out the wraith like Hokie shows. Much more fun in the warthog.

Lol, at 11:12 after you destroyed the Scarab's power core I thought to myself, "Well, I guess he's too cool to look at the explosion." A few seconds later, "Cool guys don't look at explosions..." Lol xD
Using the Rocket Mongoose is really stupid, but it's super satisfying when you pull it off

You actually got checkpoint at 10:16 so clearing the scarab should not tense much :) i think the scarab tactic and the first outdoor area tactic are very nice cause I didn't know about them
I haven't played halo 3 in 2 years I'm gonna try this
I had to retry the beginning when you capture the wraith beacause I didn´t know how to steal a wraith. Then when I retried I waited for the phantom to bring the other ghosts. I found out that you have to press B repeatedly. I guess deep down, I'm still a noob.
I just wanted to mention that this is the first time I realized that if you stay at the start screen long enough, a video will play. I guess I was always eager to play the game and didn't notice.

Not sure if you intentionally ignored it, but at the very start of the mission, there's actually a Battle Rifle hidden behind the cinder blocks to your right near the cliff edge. It's by no means necessary to finish the mission, it just makes the first few encounters a bit easier

This is true, this is the first Halo mission i ever completed solo on legendary and i only died a few times.

I hate the second lake bed for _one_ major reason: Rocket Marines. Usually, they're good with power weapons but in that area the terrain means they either blow themselves up or blow the player up. Also why didn't you pick up the Battle Rifle at the start of the level?

It is very fun to watch berserk brutes in Halo 3 but in Halo 2 it is a nightmare.
you can also use plasma pistols to stun wraiths for a few seconds.

Getting at least one Elite to survive to talk to the Arbiter (It's all luck, and you have no control over it) and getting a hold of a Bruteshot, because combat froms can now pick up weapons on the ground, and the weapon cleanup is obnoxious. I'm about to say "Fuck it, we're doing it with dual Plasma Rifles" even though using the Bruteshot would be easier.

How could the Arbiter not have known the ship was infested with Flood?
Ha I forgot about the plasma turret cause my tactic involves breaking the wraith first and then fighting for the missile turret to destroy the anti-air but that's tricky because there's a 50-50 chance the turret will get knocked off into ghost infested waters by the brute. I'm sticking by the warthog tactic since I've done it 5 times in a row succesfully by jumping on the hog to hit the switch and then fragging the holo message while the doors opening to clear out most mad plasma tossing grunts

It's actually quite easy to get the wraith through the building, just punch off one of the larger wing's tips, hook the intact one around the door frame and rotate your way in. You can get through without rotating if you punch both wingtips off, but you have to have an ally of some kind in the driver or gunner seat, or the whole tank goes boom. Additionally, the scarab can be killed using only a mounted missile pod. perhaps a bit time consuming, but if you're quick enough to get off when it takes an interest in you, it's very doable.

If you don't clear the first room before opening the door, you're gonna lose the 'Hog to a plasma grenade on Legendary, even if you're the one driving. And hijacking the Wraith as it lands? You'd get torn apart by the Brute on the plasma turret if you don't snipe him first. If you hijack it from the back where he can't get you, you'll destroy the Wraith and be unable to use it. As for the Arbiter with a Rocket launcher, a Marine with a Rocket Launcher is close enough, right?

Flood easily. They spread so damn fast and can easily overrun entire planets as long as they have a food source
