What other bushcraft techniques do you think we should practise and feature on a video? Comment below 👇

Bushcraft skills, should be brought back in schools. I did rural studies at secondary school 45 years ago, yep I'm old. All they do now is computer stuff. Ask 1 of them to light a fire ( without a lighter & only the materials around you) they have NO IDEA. Or too forage enabl food , no clue what so ever. As when the shit hits the fan, they WILL BE the first to go. Not being able to build a shelter, keep warm, filter water, catch or forage food. I'm ashamed of younger people 😕, be that Dumb.

@@andykjohnsonjohnson7622 Hi Andy, yes I agree that so much vital stuff is left out of education these days - real life skills that would be essential if the situation really goes pear shaped, but also it get kids respecting nature at an early age. Things are starting to improve in the UK as Finn now has a weekly 'outdoor learning' session at school where they're outside messing about planting things and making dens etc. There's still a long way to go though and it's likely we're just lucky as his school thinks this is important and I reckon most schools don't bother or maybe don't have the facilities/space to it. I agree there needs to be a whole shift in attitude to reinclude these fundamental skills in education, but I'm not holding my breath. Take care 🙏

It’s so hard to get the kids interested when the parents don’t give a hoot ,, Most of them couldn’t build a fire with 3 bic lighters ,,

You've got a good lad there. He's watching, listening and learning all the time. It's good to see a 6 year old being encouraged to use a knife for chopping wood as well as vegetables, and to treat both the saw, knife and the fire responsibly. I was smiling all through this video seeing a dad and son building a bond like this.

HI William, thanks for taking the time to write such a quality comment. That was actually one of our first wild camping videos and since then his little sister has joined us. I agree that getting kids used to handling and respecting dangerous stuff, like the fire and sharp tools, is definitely the way to go. We're currently taking a break from YT to take the pressure off filming the stuff we do, but hopefully we'll be back at some point.
Hope all's good with you 👍

Thanks so much for your comment and encouraging words. Our main aim for the channel is to record Finn’s progress as he learns outdoor skills and hopefully it will inspire more parents and kids to get outside and experience the massive benefits it can have. If you or your son have any ideas for what we could try then let us know. Thanks again for your support 🙏🌳🪓🔥👍

You 2 make me SMILE!! Love Finn's enthusiasm/ confidence!! Looking forward to seeing many more videos and his skill growth, great to see a kid outside and understanding that things don't always go the way it was planned and not to be discouraged 😀👍

I think you’ve touched on a really good valid point, Garrison - that when you’re out in nature, you’re never the boss, she is! This means things won’t always go your way but it’s how you respond that counts and your knowledge and skills is crucial to this. We’re really enjoying learning together and Finn is great fun to be there with in the woods. Thanks again for checking out our videos and commenting - it’s great to hear your feedback. Take care, Matt + Finn 🙏

In some of our later videos his little sister has started to join us and she's begun to learn how to use a knife and a saw. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Excellent video 👍👍👌. Passing on useful information & learning to respect nature, awesome. As Mr Haze says, leave on trace .I us too live in New Tradegan 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿, many years ago. Be4 I moved to 🇨🇦 . The wilderness here is Amazing, the on thing I miss in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 is my parents + family 😥 I felt behind.

Hi Andy, thanks very much for you comment 🙏- we're massive fans of Hazy and are keen to reinforce the leave no trace message as we feel it's essential we preserve (and improve) our natural surroundings before anymore is ruined. Canada looks amazing - I can imagine it's the perfect place to being able to find total remoteness. I've never been but it's on our list to visit one day. Hope you have a great day and we'll have some more videos like this coming soon so please watch this space. 🌳🪓🔥🏕
