Future music would have lived on a good decade I’m sure in digital form. Went from buying it in the newsagent near my workplace, to buying the digital subscription. Keyboard magazine subsumed into Electronic Music, then Electronic Musician gone, then Music Tech gone… We are left with Computer Music and Sound on Sound. Long live editorially-moderated cyclic journalism! The cornerstone of the knowledge from those of us of a certain age.. The original fuellers of GAS!
Yeah, I subbed to a lot of the mags back in the day.. Loved flicking through, learning stuff, etc... when they had the monopoly. On one hand it's sad they're gone, but on the other they did it to themselves. So much ....."connection" ...between the mags and advertisers that very little info on gear could be trusted. So many ads filling most every page. People just moved on from that. And as we all know, today it's much of the same problems with YT and such, but at least there is a glimmer of truth to be found once in a blue moon, if one really searches. Inevitably people are generally moving back toward physical/retro things (vinyl, etc..), and musicians would love flicking through COOL physical mags, but as soon as the manufacturers took control, it would be over......again.
The Zoom L6 - @Ranzee was banging on about the 32 bit float recording a few weeks ago on his show. He was saying the same thing as Gaz - about how there's no clipping. This thing is going to fly off the shelves.
IMO, a lot of critical thinking about Behringer is seen as hating. Of course, buy their stuff if you want to, but you can like their products and be critical about some stuff they do.
@@PWMaarten agreed. Calling someone a hater or saying they are hating just because they don’t like something you like is so passé. As Jorb discusses in his video about Behringer, a lot of us have issues with them because of multiple instancees in which their corporate ethics leave a lot to be desired.
Be nice if the internal Fx on the L6 could be set per channel in a update so delay on ch 1 and reverb on ch 2 ect. For live performance you can use a midi controller for eq ect ect.
Gassing for that Zoom L6 - I had a McMillan KMix a while back and regret selling it but this will do the same job for less money with the bonus of computer-free recording capability.
I dunno about this: “ Like its series siblings, the 10-channel LiveTrak L6 is a digital mixer that supports high-fidelity capture with dual functionality as an audio interface - 12-in/4-out - that specifically utilizes 32-bit float multitrack recording of up to 12 tracks simultaneously.” 32-bit float files are huge, and somehow I think it’s too good to be true. The Sound Devices gear cost over a grand for half the number of inputs, and that is an excellent recorder with quality preamps. Zoom preamps are hit and miss.
Retirement projects… Tell me about it, I have just retired-2 months ago. I’ve promised myself to do so many things (music wise) and yet I’m yet to accomplish any of it 😞
I have the Crave and Edge. No complaints with the Crave, but they changed the pots and the knobs for the Edge, so they're not quite as responsive. Bit of a bummer, but for the rest - like @silentshadowdnb says: Metal!!
I totally love my Zoom recorders. The preamps are perfect (hot) and the mixes you can get right in the unit are so good!

I think computer music, as well as total guitar, are going the same as future music

My opinion - hating on behringer is so passé! I’ve got an edge and it’s amazing - 1/3rd the price of the DFAM and it has midi interface? No brainer!

The latest community update for the Synthstrom Deluge has a Mutable Instruments reverb model, it sounds amazing
Should make a version of the L6 for those of use not using "sound pads".
Lots of better uses for that valuable real estate.

If the L6 has a cue mix I might need to buy it. But I need a separate way to mix for headphones in order to use this for live performance

I would also add that the Mix Pre has analog limiters, but the ergonomics are pretty bad.
Zoom L6 looks kinda perfect for a live set up...
Zoom L6 not supporting 44.1KHz sampling rate was a no-go for my setup. Otherwise, it was the perfect candidate. Sadly, I had to return it.

What's the build quality like of those Behringer devices? They look kind of plasticky and cheap. Well, they are cheap! But do they feel cheap?
They are actually metal! I really liked my crave 😊
