DIRECTORS NOTE
This is my absolute favorite out of all the shorts I did in high school. Mirrorboy was the best experience, and taught me the most about filmmaking in general, but I think this one is the best finished product. At least for a student film. It was the first project I had the chance to do in over a year, and I was coming off a huge creative depression, so this was just a blast! Our assignment was to visually illustrate a poem. I was gonna do some sort of super ambitious, dark, art movie, Edgar Allen Poe type thing, but the minute someone suggested this poem, I jumped at the chance. It was a great challenge, and also a great filming experience. Those things don't always go together! Andy Fuller is amazing in this, so are Scott Frankfurt and his lovely wife Sharon as the evil neighbors. I love the shot of them frolicking about in the sunlight while Fuller lays in bed wanting to kill them. It's just great fun! Of course, what really makes this great is Billy Collins, nothing can adequately sum up the hilarity of reading that poem for the first time. I think maybe my only regret (if I had to pick one) was that I had never color-corrected before, and therefore had no idea how to do it. But whatever. You have to learn at some point!
