I'd love to stick with my 8's - but they are soo unreliable - and 1 now will not turn on (red light of death) - I'm sick of them - so I've decided I gotta switch brands - shame coz the 8's are really good - but the 'will it/won't it' angst every time I want to use them - nah - had enough! Thanks for the comparison.

Great point, as I took the 8 to a zip line, and it would not power on for a good couple minutes. The DJI Action 4 has been rock-solid, powering on (very quickly) each and every time!

This. I have a 7, and 8 and they both have some kind of issue (8 overheats, and the 7 sometimes has issue with the sd card) I don't want to give GoPro anymore money. I got my wife an Ace Pro which is an amazing camera, but it's huge. I'm now considering the DJI, and it doesn't have to be as good as a GP12, it just needs to be as good as a GP8, but work.

I'm also super happy to the video quality of gopro 8. But it will get stuck all the time and that sucks. That's why I'm going to buy something else than gopro next time

Thank you. Will stick on to go pro 8. I feel only downside would be horizon leveling and night footage with dji action 4

Great feedback, and my thoughts as well. Aside from the better (but not great) night capabilities and horizon lock on the Action 4, the Hero 8 Black is still a great camera...as is the Hero 9 and 10 :)

I'm using gyroflow with my GP8 .it has 360 horizon lock, better stabilization and much wider fov without the fisheye look.

@@CJena-du1rb just yesterday I was reading about gyro flow. What settings do you keep on go pro 8 for night shots since that's the time we would require gyro flow.

Still using my 8 black- the DJI Osmo Action 4 is the king of the crop if buying today- but I agree- if you have the Hero 8 black already… it’s not much better (although magnetic mount is better IMO).
The newer GoPros ironically are much worse than the 8 black for mountain biking (high contrast) footage. Too many megapixels for the small sensor IMO.

Yep, I remember being impressed with the Hero 8, not so much with the Action 4.
I did just pick up the Ace Pro. It’s a much heavier/bulkier camera, but I do appreciate the better quality and low light improvements. It’s a great everyday camera, but am still taking the Action 4 out for riding 👌🏽

Dear very good and informative comparison .
I using gopro hero 8 black uptill now and really satisfied .
Few days before i was making my mind to purchase dji osmo action 4 .
Last week a friend of mine purchased action 4 .After using its camera for few hours reach on this conclusion that Gopro 8 is much better

I'm shocked. Was really thinking it was time for me to upgrade and switch brands, but my 8 still looks great and I don't think (other than horizon lock, and night video) that the 4 year newer OA4 was really better...

      @preludedriven  6 месяцев назад +1

Yes! While I do enjoy the OA4, the level of quality has for sure been a letdown. Hoping we get some better options this year, as even the Ace Pro has some tradeoffs. 🤔

The only big contrast of the Action 4 over the Hero 8 is underwater for me, more stable and more sharp videos, for snorkeling/corals the difference is huge, otherwise there is no much difference

very nice video, thank you! I have the GoPro Hero 8 Black and was considering the DJI Action 4 because it just went on sale for $299. I think it might not be worth upgrading for me despite the upgrades of battery life and low light. I just purchased extra batteries for the Hero 8 and carry them and make sure I'm still recording after a while and then just pause recording to swap them out. For me the other stuff isn't too much of a game changer except if you record at night or in very dark places

Agreed! It’s been nice having better lowlight performance, but honestly I’ve been having buyer’s remorse. I think 2024 is going to be the year of action cams, and will most likely pick up a new one (GoPro, Insta, or DJI) and sell the Action 4 and 8 Black.

Thx for the video. It would be great if you could do a comparison while mountain biking. Hero 8 seems to blow out the bright areas of the scene, which on a cloudy day is the trail. I even have the exposure set to -1.

Great suggestion! I’ll put on both cameras on one of my rides soon!

Are you using a Gimbal to rec. comparison? We use Action Cam for off road / rugged outdoor condition videos. Stabilization is our primary challenge, vibration creates blur regardless of settings. DJI has better stabilization with cleaner video than our (6) GoPro Hero 8 Black shooting the same footage. Nothing we havr tried over the past 1 yr. to correct this has provided satisfactory results. The DJI Action 4 is clearly a better product straight out of the box but it should be compared to a 2018 designed Action Cam. Thank you for offering your comparison experience ❤

Many thanks for the video. I was really looking for this comparison. I use a gopro 8 to record my mountain bike trips and was thinking buying an osmo action 4. I notice that stabilization when biking in the woods on a cloudy day, gives sometimes disappointing video quality with the gopro 8. Have you tested the osmo action 4 under such conditions?

    What about under water performance?

Have been searching for a new camera the past year. Currently use (5) GP Hero 8 Black but need to do a factory reset every 3-6 mo. to eliminate blurry footage. (Replaced all SanDisk SD) They are recording 8 hrs. non stop. Samsung S21 Ultra phone has done the same and needed reset to fix. Seems to be part of the digital product age. Honestly as much as we would like to find a better action camera to record UTV off road riding. The Hero 8 is still a contender. Thank you for the comparison
