Tom Foth you'd be surprised at the talent of young musicians today. the competition is very very high and brutal. there was an interview with him after the performance and he said he didn't even make the all state band.
Actually, I wouldn't be surprised. My son is an event coordinator for Bands of America. It is sad he didn't make the all state band... it certainly seems some judging rubrics are too specific and don't give credit for overall performance quality.
@@tomfoth actually, Allstate rules are overly based on purely judges opinion, with very few basic rules. However, it doesn't matter at all, as long as you're the best, then you will get into the band. The Saxes ratio to Allstate players is one of the highest and toughest in the state, so only those who deserve to be in the all-state band are truly the best. I might be brutal to say this but it's the truth
That's a saxophone showing his true colors right there. Those moments are the ones I play for. Nothing feels better than sounding amazing while you jam on the sax.

Our band always gives every band a standing O, but when we heard this at the BOA competition... That was the fastest I've ever seen a group of people simultaneously get to their feet. Needless to say, you guys got two standing Os from the Waxahachie band that night.
This solo woke me up @ the 2015 Indianapolis National Championship finalist band performances. And you know what? I'm glad it did. In my 6th and final year of marching band(and high school) I'm glad I had the opportunity to witness this solo. This is by far, the best thing I've heard in my 6 years of numerous competitions.
I’ll never forget watching my friends march this show. Changed my life, and this solo made everyone lose their shit every single time. Miss you, Hebron Band.
I think I probably liked sax before this, but looking back all these years later... I think hearing this live was a foundational moment for my taste in music and instrumentation. And this solo still blows me away.

Unfortunately, we got first slot in Finals (the worst since the judges lose all impression of you) and only placed 3rd :/

we went right after them in state prelims. needless to say, it was terrifying.
