I love that they fixed the proportions from the previous retro Spidey. The sloped down, tiny shoulders always bothered me with the previous retro figure, and the pinless joints are icing on a cake
So I usually watch these videos in bed at night with the sound off. Listening to the sound on for the first time and I'm laughing my ass off. The articulation section reminds me of a 80's workout video at times.
I missed the Retro Spider-Man, and I'm not paying those insane aftermarket prices, so I was happy when this set was announced and even happier when I got that email saying it had arrived.
It's been years since I've used some and finally realized they would come in handy for things like this and fitting pegs to sockets so I finally picked up a cheap pair.
Fantastic posing at the end! I loved the Renew Your Vows storyline and can't wait to get this set in hand. Hopefully they will do Annie as Spiderling to round out the family.
Hasbro has shown they can do the reverse ab crunch and ball torso combo on female figuresas well as butterfly joints. They need to make that the standard female body and give all the female figures the same articulation as the male bodies. I've passed on many female figures due to shitty articulation.
I might be the only person who doesn't want that for female figures. I'm not too crazy on breaking up the sculpt for the sake of "slightly" more articulation. Cause with McFarlane and GI Joe figures they really don't crunch all that much going forward and butterfly joints are hit and miss for me, I feel like the best figures to pull off those are Wolverine, Beast and Hulk, everywhere else they're either limited or make the chest proportions odd.
@@scottroxford5715they could do something like figuarts and have a butterfly inside of the torso and maybe something as little as some crunch on the hip
@@G1ZM04NDG4DG3T Nah, even that style of articulation is outdated, double ball pegs like Jada, Action Force, Mafex and newer figuarts figures is the future.
I also was not planning on picking this up and then spotted it at Target this morning...Sticker shock for sure even with the discount but I'm glad to have the pinless Spidey
I think this is the first review I've seen somebody use a caliper to get in with that deep of a comparison. I think we need something similar to the drop-down hips for those neck joints (pop-up neck?) to be able to clear that top edge of the actual neck better.
Good day Sir. I must say that you have some of the most comprehensive toy reviews I have ever seen. I also appreciate the fact that your reviews have a generally positive tone, while others just seem to incessantly complain about their toys. Thank you very much for being a positive influence in the toy collecting community.
I’m glad that you were happy with your impulse purchase (closed boxed and sticker shock). These days it’s harder for us collectors with the cost of Everything. Take care.
Got mine yesterday and havent been able to put it down. Its awesome. Only thing that would make it even more perfect would be a ball at the waist like the AEW or Classified figures.
This is my vanilla Marvel Legends Spider-Man for now. Like I’ve never owned a comic accurate Spider-Man, yeah the symbol is a bit big but honestly I love the figure and he looks great on the shelf and posing him around and fighting with the other Spidey villains is awesome And he came with Wallcrawling hands and an unmasked head!
Thanks mate for doing this spotlight. I think both Spider Man figures look great (this one and the old classic edition you compared). Hopefully I can get both on my shelf soon. That new unmasked Mary Jane head on Spinneret is also viewtiful.
SM looks really good, they fixed almost all of my complaints about the previous version, he’s now pinless with a brighter red and deeper blue and he has toe articulation. However they still clearly have no idea how to do a double ball peg for the neck. Barbell joints (or double ball pegs) are the best way to articulate an action figure’s head because it gives you access to way more nuanced posing that the standard ball and hinge doesn’t allow. A double ball works because one peg is for the majority of the movement and one is for adjustments, therefore one is big and one is small. The problem with Hasbro’s is they bury the bottom peg so far into the neck that it can’t move anywhere. If the made the bottom peg larger and brought it up closer to the base of the head they would not need to carve that stupid looking notch out of the back of his neck. To get the most range the bottom one needs to be the main pivot point and the top is for small adjustments. Hasbro has it backwards, and makes their design even worse by surrounding the peg with plastic.
I saw this pack on the shelf in Target. After I picked myself off the old lady I fell on after passing out from the shock of finding it. I watched this video in the middle of the toy isle. I perched it right away and I have to say this spider-man is amazing (no pun intended). I think it has to be the best ML out right now. With the fact that Hasbro has used the pandemic to leach as much cash as possible out of its fans and the fact that them switching to a much much cheaper to produce packaging, but they feel the need to rase the prices to insane amounts. I still don’t think any ML figure is worth the price hike. But this one is really well made
Great review! I agree that the neck is extremely frustrating on Parker. I cannot believe they went through all the trouble of making a new mold and they made the articulation worse than the old molds.
I was surprise to find this at my Target as well, I picked it up without question because I was looking for the perfect Spider-man figure and I feel this is as close as I'm going to get for now. I just hope I can find the Knull & Venom pack at Target one day
Seems a nice improvement over the retro one, which was already hard to find and is now a scalpers profit. Can't wait to have him so I can compare it to the other best Spider-Men ever : Mafex, Sentinel, Yamaguchi, Toybiz.
Can't wait for my set! The price increase is not great, however I feel a lot of stores have been offering decent discounts to offset them. Just have to be diligent in keeping an eye out for them. I currently have these on preorder at Target and was able to apply one of their discounts to it, so I will need to wait but know it'll be worth it (barring bad paint apps or missing pieces). Hopefully they start shipping soon.
Marvel Legends needs to use that Mezco style neck peg. That way the full neck can move along with the head itself on a ball joint! Other than that I can't wait to get these 2!!
Can you imagine in 10 years how they’ll look?! They’ll prob be jointless with some new plastic skin that never creases or breaks. Then our collections will look silly
I exchanged the head of this Spidey with the one from the Ben Reilly Spider-Man figure and I think that works pretty well. Peter-Man is now more classic looking with the narrower eyes and Reilly-Man looks way more accurate to the comics. :) Only thing that bugs me about my copy of the set is that my Spinneret has a small black blemish on her right cheek...
I was pretty salty I passed this set up at target, this spiderman is probably my favorite looking one (interested to see if the cel shaded Walmart exclusive head looks good on this body). Finally found a set today and I'm excited for them to come in
Now they just need to make Spiderling, because these two just don't look right without their daughter! I'd love a teenage version, but I'll even settle for the kid version. I'm not sure where Hasbro are at when it comes to teenage female bodies for Marvel Legends, but if they need to make a new one so Spiderling fits with her parents better, I hope they do. It'd be a shame if they messed up the family at the last figure, because these two look pretty good, even if the articulation isn't the greatest. (I'm definitely using the upcoming MAFEX Spidey to stand-in for this guy, even if he's a bit thin next to MJ.)
Damn near a perfect Spider-Man and a great MJ/Spinneret figure. Found my set at Target as well and that same fear hit me about the paint apps, but they turned out great
Picked up the same set except I didn't get as lucky, some paint slop on the back of MJ. But I'm not displaying my figures backwards, and with the right paint, should be a easy touch up.
This set is not perfect, and on my set the Spidey’s biceps feel particularly gummy, but I personally am glad I bought it. Definitely an upgrade for Peter, and I do appreciate having the spider hero version of MJ Glad to see you review this set, I always like the positive attitude you bring with collecting while still acknowledging the flaws and little nitpicks we tend to have- and addressing the price hikes and how you feel about it. You’re right, Hasbro is doing improvements- of course everyone is free to decide whether they’re improving enough to justify higher prices… if not they can just pass on it and leave it for the next collector.
Hey, I'm just here for the fun and enjoyment of the hobby. Yeah, prices are getting higher and nothing is perfect but I can work around those things. Tighten the budget (which needed doing anyway) and fixing things myself. But damn it, I'm still going to have fun with it. When it's not fun anymore I'll stop doing all this and find another hobby and way to pass my time.
I love your videos and I was wondering can you do iron spider next I've been trying to find a good review on it that's reliable and you're the only source I truly trust if you can thank you.

Thabjs for the all the video, I'm A big fan.👍
Now this is the best Marvel Legends Spidey ever since Pizza Spidey (Retro Spidey is overrated). It's got everything- the complete 3 sets of hands, a Peter Parker headsculpt, pinless elbows & knees, AND toe joints. As for the MJ figure, I'm glad they gave her double-jointed elbows, but she still needs an ab crunch though! A singular diaphragm cut isn't enough articulation for the torso.
I'm not too upset about windowless packaging cos, like you, I do most of my buying on-line (I live up North and we NEVER get the good stuff). But I do wonder why they don't change the package to have a security feature, like when you open some parcels you have to pull a tab and it's a clear indication the package was opened.
Hey robo Had an odd thought/realisation as I rewatched some reviews which I'm here to ask for you to check It's if Tusken Atire Boba Fett and Mando Ahsoka share the same legs from the boot up Also note to this review haha, the MJ torso probably is from a different figure cause the shriek doesn't have pegholes
I wonder if he's a little bigger because in the spider verse comic he's an older peter parker who is married with a teenage child. He made MJ a costume that gave her spider powers and the three of them are a super hero family. Just a thought. Great review i was thinking about picking Spinneret up to swap out the head for a black cat head. (Since we all know that's who spider-man should be with.) lol
I still feel like this 2-pack should’ve been a 3-pack. Hasbro should’ve included the Spiderling (kid version) on a Marvel Universe 3.75 inch body. This way we’ll have the whole family together.
Seeing as you got this set and the Rhino recently, Robo, trust me when I say this.. Get, the, Lizard! That thing is amazing and probably the be all end all version of that character. I do enjoy this set for the most part. The new Spider-Man cuts such a nicer silhouette than the retro version, I just love what they did with the shoulders and whilst it isn't as classic as I'd like and the neck kinda sucks, it's still a very fun piece. Spinneret is okay although mine had a few QC issues. That said I love the unmasked head, the previous one I thought was great but the photo real makes the new one. Whilst I do prefer the darker shaded hair over the flat red of the new one, I had the last head on the Moira MacTaggert body which blended in with the clothes given how close the hair colour was, the new one stands out more.
It's the same retro Spidey accept for it being pinless and better toe articulations which is cool. And the color is more vibrant on this new Spiderman figure . To bad it has to come with the female figure which I can care less of. I wish this spider man figure was sold single . Instead of the double pack it comes from.
I will have to have this set - it's Spider-Man! - and it might just replace my retro figure but a bit bummed to have to pay that much for one figure and one fodder... But then again I paid too much money for the retro figure and I did bought several Shriek figures for fodder - plus the unmasked MJ ain't bad - so not great but not terrible either. My major gripe though is the red spider on his back. Not sure if on purpose but ALL the videos I've seen reviewers do not clearly show the back of the figure and I get the feeling the red spider looks bad on the butterfly joints. I was even thinking in kitbashing it with the retro figure but I can't even do that cause the blue are different. But I suppose we'll see how it goes. Oh and about the box yes I also buy online but I can ask the seller to check for paint apps - I did asked for a good head on the retro figure when I've seen online that most had bad webbing - and I can return/swap if it doesn't look good and it's still sealed but if I have to open to see, the chances of having a replacement are slim at best... this new box scheme is terrible for collectors specially at this price point. But yeah I suppose we will all buy it anyway as we're all suckers for a good Spider-Man figure 😂
Toe articulation?! HASBRO! Give all Spider-Men in the Spider-Man NWH 3 pack that’s getting released 2023 a toe joint! Please! I want to see my Tobey figure have toe articulation, especially MY BOY TOBEY!
No attachment to Spinneret, at all, but they're both striking looking figures. Another plus is that the renders on the box match the figures, in that they're actually pinless. (Looking at you, comic version Gorr..).
Are these the first female wall crawling hands? I also noticed from other reviews and finds that MJ has a spot on her clavicle where the web lines gap, likely due to the divot. It does create the illusion of a heart, so I’m not complaining about that. (First noticed it on DanWho’s review, which he also had a spot on her shoulder without webs. He does give you shout outs fairly often.) Not a must have set for me, but it does look cool.
This is currently a shelf-warmer at my local Targets because of the price point. 58 bucks is a but much. There's literally 12 of these on the shelves. Also to mention that it's just a cardboard box sitting on a shelf makes people walk by it not realizing it's even a figure. It can't hang on a peg like normal figs so it looks like the normal junk sitting below the figs on pegs at the store, so everyone walks by it. The same thing is happening in my region with the Transformers "Insect" set of 4 bots that everyone is paying an arm and a leg for the Goldbug only. There's like 12 sets sitting on the shelves for a month now because no one knows its figs. People commonly think it's legos. Especially with the lego collab with transformers recently
BBTS isn't expecting these until December, but in the meantime I decided to buy an extra Shriek to customize into a Symbiote Spinneret from the Renew Your Vows storyline I've never really painted a figure myself before though, so hopefully I don't screw this up lol
@@TheFwoosh It's really fun! It's not a groundbreaking story or anything, but I thought it was really cool seeing Peter and MJ fight crime as a couple along with their daughter. If you ever do wanna pick it up, there's 2 volume 1s. The first is one of the Warzones tying into the 2015 Secret Wars event. The second volume 1 is under the title "Brawl in the Family", and it's where the Spider-Family really kicks off
Glad you reviewed, as much as you like it the review made it a pass for me, much prefer the retro version colors and that head looks off straight on, I like the eyes on profile but they are tilted incorrectly or the sculpt is throwing the straight forward portrait for me. Great review and saved me some money. Thanks
has anyone else experienced issues with this spidey's bicep swivel being kinda gummy/rubbery and if so does anyone have a fix for it cuz i'm wary my spidey's bicep cut could snap from it in the future?
“I got a good one with good paints !!” Sucks you have to say that when you buy Marvel Legends . The spider logo is kinda big tho, but that Spider MJ female fig is cool ( no clue )
Got mines today masks/paint on spidey and mj are perfect and on point but what bothers me just a bit is how on Spider-Man is how the spider is misaligned and has paint splatter inside the figure
Thank you for the review. Not completely reuse of the Shriek body. Mixed with Age of Apocalypse Rouge, or Siren for the upper torso. Shriek has no holes in her back. Waiting for female figures to be released with lower waist articulation before I pick this up. It may not happen, but at one point we all thought pin-less double jointed elbows and bicep swivel on female figures would never happen. Spider-Man will be released again, and again, and again and some of them will probably have toe articulation. so I'm not worried about missing him. G.I. Joe Classified, Power Rangers, and some Fortnite figures have upper and lower waist articulation so Marvel legends eventually doing the same isn't too far of a stretch to the imagination. Who knows, Mafex, or Sentinel may beat Hasbro to it.
I'm glad they're starting to get rid of that ugly waist swivel that most spidey figures have and are going with the ab crunch/torso ball joint combo. though not having the ability for full splits is a step down.
TBH the Spider-Man is good but Hasbro QC issues lately is becoming a scary thing buying this windowless box or no plastic box is like buying a mystery box. I'm hoping they make a box design where you can see the figure inside.
Oh, I'm still all for the MAFEX when it comes to crazy poses, but as you can see from the comparison, it's kinda spindly standing straight up. This is a nice mix of both worlds.
I picked up the calipers a few months back to check some drill bit sizes and for fitting articulation together, figured it was time to integrate it into some reviews instead of just guessing at the size of things, haha!
I do like them, but I've realized that on Spidey they are sunk too low. If the ball in the neck was closer up to the ridge of the socket there would be more movement, like we see in MAFEX and even Star Wars. OR, like I think I said, have a ball at the bottom of the neck too, into the torso, to help with the range.
I love that they fixed the proportions from the previous retro Spidey. The sloped down, tiny shoulders always bothered me with the previous retro figure, and the pinless joints are icing on a cake

Naw, same design and similar sculpt, but different.
Its been a year but i just bought them for my twins, a boy and a girl, perfect gift for them and me😄
11:04 what figure is the black suit Spidey here?
Great review🕷👍
You know, I wasn't going to get this, but if I see it for a good price, I think I'm sold. I missed retro Spidey, and this seems even more my thing.
Hasbro should bring back the toe joint for all future releases.
I just ordered lizard for a total of 63$ 😐 should be here Saturday I’m so excited
@@sabianescoo It's such a great figure, probably the best Spider-Man villain figure they've made yet
I also wasn’t planning on buying this.
I also went to a typically mediocre Target.
I also saw one on the shelf and immediately caved. 😂😂😂
It's the same retro Spidey accept for it being pinless and better toe articulations which is cool. And the color is more vibrant on this new Spiderman figure . To bad it has to come with the female figure which I can care less of. I wish this spider man figure was sold single . Instead of the double pack it comes from.
so glad they're adding toe articulation to them
I will have to have this set - it's Spider-Man!
Renew Your Vows storyline doesn't suck!
He does give you shout outs fairly often.)
Not a must have set for me, but it does look cool.
Great review! You heading to NYCC this year btw, Robo?
Probably not, have a smaller con and then an actual, genuine vacation planned. Hopefully next year.
Hey Robo, may get this set because I need a Spider-Man for my collection.
BBTS isn't expecting these until December, but in the meantime I decided to buy an extra Shriek to customize into a Symbiote Spinneret from the Renew Your Vows storyline
I've never really painted a figure myself before though, so hopefully I don't screw this up lol
Gotta start somewhere, haha! And I just looked that up, looks interesting. I need to read this story....
The second volume 1 is under the title "Brawl in the Family", and it's where the Spider-Family really kicks off
All we need now is individual finger articulation or web grabbing Hands in this set
That would have been perfect
Damn it Robo, I don't collect Marvel Legends yet here you are, tempting me with this adorable Pete & MJ pair. Stop it! For the sake of my wallet!
Dude!, the posing in this vid 👌
TBH the Spider-Man is good but Hasbro QC issues lately is becoming a scary thing buying this windowless box or no plastic box is like buying a mystery box. I'm hoping they make a box design where you can see the figure inside.
I wasn’t gonna get this one either… it arrived this week hahah
0:01 I thought of Kendrick Lamar
It’d be cool if they had made it a 3 pack with their daughter from the same story.
I don’t know if anyone else noticed but I think the masked spidey head is the pizza spidey
I’ve gone on long enough knot knowing what the “bright white” reference is from I NEED TO KNOW
Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm by Crash Test Dummies.
I love this set, but the mafex is still my end all be all Spider-Man figure, for now
Oh, I'm still all for the MAFEX when it comes to crazy poses, but as you can see from the comparison, it's kinda spindly standing straight up. This is a nice mix of both worlds.
How do the biceps look? Mine had shallow holes so worrisome arms on spidey
It looks like the Spider-family isn't your only new toy! That measuring thing looks cool!
I picked up the calipers a few months back to check some drill bit sizes and for fitting articulation together, figured it was time to integrate it into some reviews instead of just guessing at the size of things, haha!
@@TheFwoosh You're becoming all fancy! Next thing you know, you won't be calling these "toys" anymore, but "collectibles"!
NEVER!
Do you prefer dumbbell joints because they haven't been to kind to me and I don't like them
I do like them, but I've realized that on Spidey they are sunk too low. If the ball in the neck was closer up to the ridge of the socket there would be more movement, like we see in MAFEX and even Star Wars. OR, like I think I said, have a ball at the bottom of the neck too, into the torso, to help with the range.
