I'm a Special Ed teacher and we use talker's all the time. My daughter was taught at a early age to respect. I've worked for my school 21 years now and love every minute all my kids are very special to me. Lol my school kids. I only have one that belongs to me.
I think it’s wonderful that people can have long careers teaching and working with kids and how much passion and love there is for their jobs and the kids too! 💕
I don’t typically comment on videos but hearing what you said about having a voice gave me a big sigh of relief. People should have access to having a voice. I use AAC most days as I am partially non verbal / non-verbal at times, with autism and heaps of other things; and like the the good description you explained what happens, it is very difficult to transfer thoughts into words (sometimes it feels like I will never be able to speak again). It is really hard for people to understand that sometimes I can’t speak even though they know I can but at the time I actually can’t 😩. I recently wanted to find out why this is happening to me and found an article which gave me such relief of someone with a similar experience. Watching your RUclips channel as well as Fathering Autism has really helped me understand myself so much more and showing family your videos helps them understand too. I am so excited for your family especially Braylee to get Norton, your very soon to come service dog! In your week summary video I leapt out of my bed seeing the picture of him!!!! I am currently raising money for my own service dog and am really excited for it but right now it is a long way off. Keep doing what you are doing, you are helping so many people all around the world have a better understanding and are very engaging channel to watch. Sending much love from Australia ❤️
I‘m glad to know we got it right. We didn’t always know that people who are verbal or partially verbal had times where they struggled to speak so I think it’s good to share that it’s a possibility that does happen as well. It’s always nice to find relatable things that help you understand why certain things may be difficult and to know you aren’t alone like with that article you found! Thanks for being so excited for us! He will be such a welcome addition. I hope you get a service dog of your own sooner than later! ❤️❤️
Oh, I have this problem too. Can I ask please what you found out about yourself. I also can’t talk half the time and the other time I seem to be pretty good at speaking but it’s never like a typical speaking person but it’s strange that I can talk pretty ok some days and not at all other days and most people can’t understand that. So it would be amazing to have an explanation for those people.
I just did a communication matrix with an AAC expert for my 3 year old, nonverbal son. She said he's the perfect candidate for an AAC device. He has been using lots of signs and pictures, but this will help him expand his vocabulary and make it so that anyone can understand him, even if they don't know signs. We're going to borrow a device from his speech therapy center and see how it goes! I'm so excited. Thank you for sharing Braylee using one. It's so amazing to see how useful they are. And about the insurance fight, I'm gearing up for it. To me it's heartbreaking that they will probably deny it. It's like denying a wheel chair for a child who can't walk (yes, I know they do that too). It's just heartbreaking.
Her asking for a PB&J and orange made me so happy !!! Hahaha yay. Im so glad she seems to direct her own life more with the ability to communicate. :))
My nephew had a little girl named Abby in his 2nd grade last year who had Autism and used an AAC and thought it was so cool that she had a "robot" voice oh 8 year old. He loved hanging out with her at recess. He told me he took turns one day he would run around and be crazy with one set of friends and the next day he would sit with Abby since she did not like to run around. He has a big heart and I think he just understood because he had a significant speech delay (he had no words until 4) and social skill delay, he still has communicated issues but is working hard at that.
I love the idea of teaching children about these device's. When we got my Niece one with touch chat on it we had people from the organization that provided come into her classroom and do a whole lesson on it and brought in extras for the students to practice having conversations only using the devices so they all understood what it was about and how to interact with her. I hope that school boards across the world could do this not just in London Ontario Canada.
Yas! AAC devices are so special and needed. Many of my clients use them even though they are verbal and can communicate regularly - those overwhelming situations you mentioned are where those devices are so important.
It’s something we didn’t always consider either so it’s good to share what we have learned because I know we aren’t the only ones who didn’t know. They’re so important for so many reasons for different people ❤️
I have autism and am mostly verbal. But I find typing and using AAC devices help me get my point across better in some situations. So I use one when I’m in an environment that brings on a lot of stress. I didn’t know October was AAC awareness. I didn’t even know that there was an awareness month for AAC. That is so cool! Thanks for this video!!! I appreciate it!!!
We have learned so much about AAC and still have a LOT to learn of course. But we never knew before how many situations it’s useful in and not just with people who are non-speaking. It makes so much sense and I’m glad it’s a great tool for you and many others too! Even with Braylee using more vocal language, it’s great to have a way for her to be more widely understood by those who may not be familiar with her.
Do you think it's normal if I don't have autism or other reason but when I'm stressed it's easier to use AAC and it feels good? Actually I don't have any problems with speaking, but if I am stressed and there are people who can understand me, I start using AAC without thinking.
both my kiddos know what aac devices are due to the fact that my oldest uses one. His 2 yr old brother does tend to like to take it away from him or want to engage with him on it often. Its still a learning curve for both of them but they help so much. my son went from using pecs to flourishing his development of speech through his device. Now he trying to actually verbally say new words all within a year. we are so proud and thankful for how much his aac device has given him a voice.
It definitely is a learning curve. We encountered that more when B first got her since she was a preschooler and that age kids don’t quite understand, especially if they aren’t taught about it. That’s so huge!!! How wonderful 😍 having a way to communicate is so valuable ❤️
Hi WeeFam👋🏼 I’m also from MN!! Your family is amazing and spreading so much awareness. Thank you so much for all you guys do each and everyday. Keep it up! That little girl of yours is changing the world.

I've been thinking about getting a speech app for my ipad because whenever I have a meltdown or am stressed/panicky it's really hard for me to talk and often I just don't want to
A good app I use is TD compass by Tobii Dynavox. It is completely customisable but one downside is it is only usable on the iPad. There are heaps of different apps you can use on the phone though (just search text to speech apps), one I use is UrVoice - you type what you have to say and push the ‘speak’ button for it to speak.
Do you think it is normal for me to use AAC when I am stressed, if possible, without thinking, even though I don't have any problems with speech? Actually, I can express myself easily if I want, but I feel more comfortable if I use AAC when I am stressed.
Love this video!! Thank you for sharing! AAC is so amazing. My 3 year old started using it in ST a month ago and she's really getting the hang of it well. We're actually picking her up a new iPad this weekend and getting the software for her to use at home. Can't wait!

Thanks for the awareness about the "talker". Best part of the video for me was hearing braylee say Norton. and I heard it a couple of times. so cute and so exciting. she knows who Norton is!! Have a good day wee family.
She definitely is getting comfortable and says his name or pushes it on her talker often and randomly. Let’s hope she enjoys him that much when he comes home 😉

Hi Braylee, my name is Anna. I find your family inspiring and I want to meet you someday. I am also on the Autism Spectrum, but what I have is called Aspergers.
My son is using a AAC device in speech therapy . They are going to evaluate him to get one hopefully soon since he is getting the hang of it real fast . I can’t wait til he owns one
My kid (10 years old) knows about acc because she watches your videos...funny thing is I didn't introduce her to your videos.i heard your voice coming from her room and went in to check on her and she was watching your videos lol she says your daughter looks fun to play with so she watches the videos
You guys are awesome, keep up the good work! Thank you for making this video and bringing awareness about speech devices.👍 My daughter has a speech device aka her talker. Having a speech device was a game changer! She uses her talker, sign language and she knows how to say a few words that we clearly understand. Giving her the power of communication is everything 🥰
That’s great that it’s made such an impact! I think it’s great to offer multiple modes of communication and finding what fits the needs of the person best! ❤️ we do a combination here too 😁
Braylee is So adorable!! Thank you so much for mentioning I can't always speak I have Autism And a literacy disorder Like Stuttering it's a block stuttering! Also yess I know what they look like like at my school I see many kids with ACC I hope you don't mind me sharing but some people I have Seen Like Jade, Kisha Ruby, yana has an eye gaze device!! Those are just some!! There are many more A ACC device is a an iPad or a Tablet and it has different Icons And the Child taps on a button and it will say Like for Example "I want pancakes" ect. I am so glad braylee has a way to communicate!!
My 7 years old daughter is autistic and she doesn’t talk yet. I wish if there is an app that I could change the voices and letters to Arabic, our native language. Most of the AAC apps are in English.
Thank you for sharing! I believe TouchChat has an add-on for Arabic; however, I am sure it cost more. It is so unfortunate that kids right to have a voice comes at such a high cost.
@@TheWeeFamily I just started developing a new app where the parent can add a photo, text underneath and even record or upload a voice. No matter what language. 100% Free
That's one thing I have not taught my kids about is speaking devices. My kids would never go and take anything from another kid, but I still want to teach my kids about what is it.
Definitely. We didn’t realize until we experienced it how many times other kids just don’t quite understand speaking devices. Especially the toddlers/preschoolers which makes sense because they’re younger and that was the age when Braylee got hers so that’s when we encountered it most.
love love love this video,,,,, i semi verbal like braylee!!! want get aac save up money, ipad so much money :') make me happy feel seen . you are good good dad
So cool to see involved Dads! My son is that with my 3 yo granddaughter like Braylee. I just bought an iPad Gen 5. Hope all ACC software can be added onto it. *$ in short supply!) Do you prefer the I-Pad mini? Braylee talks soooooo well!
You should be able to still get AAC software on that IPad. We like the iPad mini for our daughter because it is better for on the go situations. Proloquo2go , the app that we use is actually going on sale soon (in days even) for half off!
I see you already added Norton to her AAC! Do you buy the pre-made crustless PB & Js for her? With kids learning about AAC devices, it's totally different now than when I was a kid. Most of the devices I see these days are typical tablets with specialized software. When I was a kid, they were typically these large clunky machines
Yes we did add him so she can get familiar with him and the button. As we need we can add more to his folder too 🙂 We do buy the uncrustables PB&Js for her since she prefers them and with them being frozen initially, she likes to eat them before they fully thaw often and they tend to be less messy at that stage Oh I bet! I don’t ever remember even seeing them when I was younger and now so many people are able to have and use them to communicate. It’s such a wonderful thing!
I didnt know there was a awareness month! So cool! My daughter uses touch chat. I'm still waiting for funding to come though to get our own but we have a loaner one atm which is great but it sounds like a adult english women lol I can't wait to get her own set up to sound more appropriate for her age.
Maybe teach your child to ask them how they are and hopefully have a positive human interaction! Like teach them that it's OK for them to communicate that way and it will also be a opportunity for our children that use the divice to interact with them too! Just a idea 💡 take it or leave it !
How long did it take Braylee to use aac device? She seems very comfortable with it.Is this the same thing Abbie uses from “fathering autism”loved seeing her doing so well today!❤️
I don’t remember how long it took initially. She still doesn’t use it as much as she really could or should be and needs a lot of prompts from us and modeling. They both use AAC but different programs
Thsnk you for this video...i am searching for this device hier in Germany and i need information..my son is 6 years old ...he is nonverbal ..we need to give voice to this children..Here in Germany is very slow process and i hate this..Please share more info about this device 🙏
I don’t understand how she’s able to use a communication device but she can’t speak I am really confused here could somebody explain? Because she obviously understands what’s going on around her if she understands and she knows that oppresses buttons but how come she can’t speak
She has something called dyspraxia which is a motor function disorder that makes it hard to form words. This is why her words are jumbled when she try’s to talk. She understands more than we know and she just can’t express words with speech. She know what she wants to say, but forming the words are very difficult. The speaking device, sign language, etc can be alternate forms of communication for her. Hope that helps.
I think I might look into this item. I'm fighting with my son school right now. There teacher that's trying to get my son removed and homeschool. And I been so stressed over this. And hardly sleep in last few days and done more crying then like to. Person has gotten my question my parenting of him and made me feel beaten down. To point I'm about to get lawyer involved not right what they are doing.
Ugh I’m so sorry to hear that. Have you gotten an advocate to help deal with school stuff already? I hope you get it sorted out sooner than later and things get better for you ❤️
We all are with you. Now that there is mant parents who is on the same position as you so stay strong. What's make you good parent is that you fighting for your child to be part of society (as he is anyway !). You are fighting for better future for your child & many other ( like my child so thank you). God bless you & your family. STAY STRONG, YOUR CHILD DESERVE BE IN THIS WORLD & BE SUPPORTED !
When i get overwhelmed or meeting strangers out in public i struggle to talk even with my partner there i just shut down and can only say yes or no, it's really hard.
I believe it. I’ve heard more stories of that since we share about Braylee and I don’t think most realize that sort of thing happens to many people. ❤️
She does still sing. It’s been hit or miss, but I don’t feel we have gotten any recorded lately is all. We don’t know what decreased her speech progress but it happens from time to time that she will regress. We think she will come back to it and further hopefully so we just hang in with her wherever she is at.
I have a question, does the child have to master or have fluency to obtain an AAC device? My son is 7 been fighting will they school. They tell me he is not ready.
If my para has me next year he will probably be like okay Anna! What do you want if I push peanut butter and jelly sandwich he will probably be like here you go ! Nice asking Anna you love those stuff
If I have my communication device on my phone my dad will probably be like okay Anna! Are you ready to go on the flight I will probably be like yeah I am hungry he will probably be like okay show me what you want to eat! If I push poptarts he will probably be like okay! Poptart coming up! Nice asking!

That’s great that it’s made such an impact! I think it’s great to offer multiple modes of communication and finding what fits the needs of the person best! ❤️ we do a combination here too 😁
Braylee is So adorable!!
Thank you so much for mentioning I can't always speak I have Autism And a literacy disorder
Like Stuttering it's a block stuttering!
Also yess I know what they look like like at my school I see many kids with ACC
I hope you don't mind me sharing but some people I have Seen
Like Jade, Kisha Ruby, yana has an eye gaze device!!
Those are just some!!
There are many more
A ACC device is a an iPad or a Tablet and it has different Icons And the Child taps on a button and it will say Like for Example "I want pancakes" ect.
I am so glad braylee has a way to communicate!!
Aww she looks so cute
Hi! Can you tell me where did you buy that orange pillow that she was using to press her belly? My son would love it! Thank you.
It’s from fun and function 🙂
I don't have kids but i love the message of awareness for everybody is good to learn how to interact in that situation
love love love this video,,,,, i semi verbal like braylee!!! want get aac save up money, ipad so much money :') make me happy feel seen . you are good good dad
B.. I loooooovvee your astronaut onsie!! I would love one!
😁
I see you already added Norton to her AAC!
Do you buy the pre-made crustless PB & Js for her?
With kids learning about AAC devices, it's totally different now than when I was a kid. Most of the devices I see these days are typical tablets with specialized software. When I was a kid, they were typically these large clunky machines
Yes we did add him so she can get familiar with him and the button. As we need we can add more to his folder too 🙂
We do buy the uncrustables PB&Js for her since she prefers them and with them being frozen initially, she likes to eat them before they fully thaw often and they tend to be less messy at that stage
Oh I bet!
Braylee started with TouchChat on a loaner from her preschool as well.
There are some other choices for voices to use which is nice too
@@TheWeeFamily I've looked at some of the voices but I'm not allowed to download new ones on the loaner. We will have our own soon though :)
One of the world's greatest scientists of all time, Stephen Hawking, had a speaking device attached to his motorized wheelchair.
🙂 Great video! Braylee looked fantastic in her astronaut pajamas! So glad she has an AAC device. It will help her a lot. Love you all and God bless✝️❤️
❤️❤️
Maybe teach your child to ask them how they are and hopefully have a positive human interaction! Like teach them that it's OK for them to communicate that way and it will also be a opportunity for our children that use the divice to interact with them too! Just a idea 💡 take it or leave it !
Do you have a screen protector on her AAC iPad Mini? If you don’t I recommend getting one...it will keep the screen from getting scratched
We do have one, just haven’t put it on yet. We recently replaced the case and it came with one 🙂
@@TheWeeFamily Great. I didn’t want anything to happen to her AAC device.
Victoria need a new communication AAC Device for me. I can’t communicating my words out. I did order on Amazon already
Her jacket is cute
I hope she's doing okay.
@@TheWeeFamily thank you !
Thsnk you for this video...i am searching for this device hier in Germany and i need information..my son is 6 years old ...he is nonverbal ..we need to give voice to this children..Here in Germany is very slow process and i hate this..Please share more info about this device 🙏
Cool video
I don’t understand how she’s able to use a communication device but she can’t speak I am really confused here could somebody explain? Because she obviously understands what’s going on around her if she understands and she knows that oppresses buttons but how come she can’t speak
She has something called dyspraxia which is a motor function disorder that makes it hard to form words. This is why her words are jumbled when she try’s to talk. She understands more than we know and she just can’t express words with speech. She know what she wants to say, but forming the words are very difficult. The speaking device, sign language, etc can be alternate forms of communication for her. Hope that helps.
My son speech therapist just recommended this device.... in your opinion would you say it helps? Or do the child become reliant on it?
My Alexa went off wanting to play 21 pilots and it would be 2.99 a month for music.
Does she still sing? Also what do you feel decreased her verbally? I noticed in prior video she talked more?
She does still sing. It’s been hit or miss, but I don’t feel we have gotten any recorded lately is all. We don’t know what decreased her speech progress but it happens from time to time that she will regress. We think she will come back to it and further hopefully so we just hang in with her wherever she is at.
i have a friend who always trys t aking my phone
OMG if those are the cutest best PJs ever!!! where did you get them?
Target! As always 😄
Lol, looks like shes wearing an among us pajamas onesie. I know that's not the among us pjs. Just looks like it to me.
It does kind of look like that hah
They even have many apps for AAC

Useful tech
Definitely.
